Dynamic capabilities, human capital and service innovation: the case of Taiwan ICT industry

This study focuses on the influence of dynamic capabilities (DCs) on service innovation and further examines the mediating effects of generic and specific human capital on the relationship between DCs and service innovation. 225 questionnaires were collected from paired cases (IT and sales departments) of information and communication technology (ICT) companies in Taiwan. The results from an analysis using PLS showed that DCs have a positive effect on service innovation, as well as generic and specific human capital. Moreover, generic and specific human capital play mediating roles in the relationships between DCs and service innovation. This study contributes towards gaps by empirically examining the mediating effects of fostering and deploying generic and specific human capital on services innovation, thus providing IT and sales managers with a better account of how services innovation comes about within dynamic environments.
Monitoring the Comfort of Poultry Body by Infrared Thermography

At present, the environmental regulation of Taiwanese traditional poultry farm is based on the information collected by the ambient temperature and humidity sensor. However, this method is unable to know the situation of the poultry directly. The purpose of this study is to collect poultry body surface temperature information directly by the infrared thermal imager. The relationship between poultry body surface temperature and temperature-humidity index (THI) is studied for estimating the actual feeling of poultry at different conditions. The Raspberry Pi, infrared thermal imaging sensor, environmental sensors were integrated for collecting the poultry body temperature and environmental information. The collected poultry infrared thermal images were divided into head, foot and wing different areas for the analysis. The environment temperature, humidity, air velocity and poultry surface temperature were continuous recorded for four weeks. The measured chicken’s surface temperature from infrared image sensor changes with the THI. The temperature change of the chicken’s foot is larger than the temperature of chicken’s head, and wing. The correlation between poultry surface temperature and THI, and temperature-humidity-velocity index (THVI) were calculated. According to the results, the correlation between poultry surface temperature and THI is higher than the correlation between poultry surface temperature and THVI. It shows that THI impacts on the poultry surface temperature. The poultry surface temperature can be detected by the infrared camera for poultry house environment control.

This article systematically reviews the adoption of total quality management (TQM) implementation and corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiatives on firm performance. A total of 233 published documents from 1996 to 2020 in international journals have been collected and listed on the SCOPUS database. It aims to fill the existing literature gap regarding TQM and CSR practices and point out a future research agenda. This study employed a systematic literature review approach to review those manuscripts related to TQM, CSR topics focused on firm performance. Consequently, the results stressed that TQM and CSR are excellent tools and have a similarity to support the firms to attain corporate sustainability; however, TQM practices have given more interest than CSR initiatives. Moreover, the results highlighted that only a few articles are interested in simultaneously combining TQM and CSR initiatives although this idea is rising in recent years. Thus, the statistical findings indicated several research gaps that remain unaddressed. It is worthy of considering TQM and CSR integration; however, other scholars need to identify the critical success factors that could enable TQM practices or barriers to CSR adoption. Particularly spending more attention on the transitional economies context, which is considering a promising future research context.
Wireless distributed computing: a survey of research challenges

<P>Recent advancements in radio technology provide great flexibility and enhanced capabilities in executing wireless services. One of these capabilities that can provide significant advantages over traditional approaches is the concept of collaborative computing in wireless networks. With collaborative radio nodes, multiple independent radio nodes operate together to form a wireless distributed computing (WDC) network with significantly increased performance, operating efficiency, and abilities over a single node. WDC exploits wireless connectivity to share processing- intensive tasks among multiple devices. The goals are to reduce per-node and network resource requirements, and enable complex applications not otherwise possible, e.g., image processing in a network of small form factor radio nodes. As discussed in this article, WDC research aims to quantify the benefits of distributed processing over local processing, extend traditional distributed computing (DC) approaches to allow operation in dynamic radio environments, and meet design and implementation challenges unique to WDC with the help of recently available enabling technologies, such as software radios and cognitive radios.</P>
The observation of microstructures in the trigonal shape memory alloys

The trigonal shape memory alloys (SMAs) have a great potential to be utilized as the applications with special purposes, such as actuators with high operation frequency. Most studies on the trigonal microstructures typically focus on the well-known classic herringbone pattern, but many other patterns are also possible, such as non-classic herringbone, toothbrush and checkerboard patterns. In the current work, a systematic procedure is developed to find all possible laminate twin microstructures by using geometrically linear compatibility theory. The procedure is verified by SEM images with the information of crystallographic axes of unitcells obtained by EBSD, showing good agreement. Many interesting trigonal R-phase patterns are found in the specimen. Then, their incompatibility are analyzed with nonlinear compatibility theory. The relationship between such incompatibility and the likelihood of occurrence of the microstructures is revealed. The current procedure is rapid, computationally efficient and sufficiently general to allow further extension to other crystal systems and materials.
