Neutronics study on small power ADS loaded with recycled inert matrix fuel for transuranic elements transmutation using Serpent code

Vu, Thanh Mai,Hartanto, Donny,Ha, Pham Nhu Viet Korean Nuclear Society 2021 Nuclear Engineering and Technology Vol.53 No.7

A small power ADS design using thorium oxide and diluent matrix reprocessed fuel is proposed for a high transmutation rate, small reactivity swing, and strong safety features. Two fuel matrices (CERCER and CERMET) and different recycled fuel compositions recovered from UO2 spent fuels with 45 GWd/tU and 60 GWd/tU burnup were investigated to determine the suitable fuel for the ADS. It was found that the transmutation of each isotope depends on TRU initial loading amount. After examining the cores, the results show that CERCER fueled ADS has a negative coolant void reactivity (CVR) and a smaller radiotoxicity at discharge compared to that of CERMET core. It implies that CERCER fuel has enhanced safety features and more flavor in terms of radiotoxicity management. To increase fuel utilization and core operation efficiency, a simple assembly shuffling pattern for the CERCER fueled ADS is also proposed. Eigenvalue and burnup calculations were conducted using Serpent 2 with ENDF/B-VII.0 library in both kcode and external source modes, and it indicates that the results of transmutation analyses obtained by kcode only is reliable to discuss the transmutation potential of ADS. Burnup calculation with the fixed-source mode is essential to be used for more practical results of the transmutation by ADS.

Analysing Productivity Change in Vietnamese Garment Industry Using Global Malmquist Index

Thanh Khac MAI,Van NGUYEN,Trang Huyen Thi VU 한국유통과학회 2020 The Journal of Asian Finance, Economics and Busine Vol.7 No.11

Vietnam is conducting an export-led growth model and labour-intensive industries contributing majorly to the total export value. In the context of Industry 4.0, the labour-based industries are significantly affected; hence, enhancing productivity is the key measure to maintain these industries. The garment industry contributes significantly to the total export value of Vietnam. Based on meta-frontier framework, the approach of data envelopment analysis is used to measure technical efficiency of Vietnamese garment firms and the global Malmquist TFP index is utilised to identify productivity change and its components including efficiency, technology and technical gaps between different groups of firms. The data of Vietnamese garment firms from 2013 to 2018 collected from the Vietnam General Statistic Office is used in this study. The results show that: (i) The total factor productivity of Vietnamese garment firms growth, technical progress is the main contributor; (ii) The private garment sector is the leading group; (iii) There is a large technological gap among Vietnamese garment sectors. The private and FDI garment firms have experienced a growth in all components of total factor productivity change. Meanwhile, technological progress change is the main reason to constrain the productivity growth of state-owned garment firms.

The Effect of Technology Spillover on Business Efficiency: A Case Study in Vietnam

Mai Lan PHUNG,Vu Hiep HOANG,Thi Thanh Huyen NGUYEN,Thi Thanh Van PHAM,Viet Tien TRAN,Van Hoa HOANG 한국유통과학회 2021 The Journal of Asian Finance, Economics and Busine Vol.8 No.5

The main objective of this study is to examine the interactive effect of technology spillover channels on business efficiency within the case study of manufacturing industry of Vietnam during the period from 2012 to 2018. The research model was developed with business efficiency as dependent variable and the relevant factors affecting the technology spillover capacity as independent variables. With a sample of 2,776 cross-sectional enterprises, panel data analysis approach was adopted to estimate the impact of technology spillover issue. Different spillover channels were also included in the analysis to enhance the empirical result. The study reveals that technology spillovers positively influence manufacturing business efficiency, in which horizontal spillover channel produces negative impact and vertical spillover channel, creates positive impact. Several factors that negatively affect the technology spillover capacity of businesses could be mentioned such as limited skills and experiences of workers, methods of implementing R&D, and the existence of FDI enterprises. Meanwhile, the rise of other factors related to joint-venture activities can help to increase the technology spillover capacity of businesses. In addition, skill and experience transfer makes a partial impact since this variable only positively affect the vertical spillover channel and provide no evidence of impact regarding horizontal spillover channel model.

Training of Trainers for Primary English Teachers in Viet Nam : Stakeholder Evaluation

Mai Trang Vu,Thuy Thi Thanh Pham 아시아영어교육학회 2014 The Journal of Asia TEFL Vol.11 No.4

Recently Viet Nam National Foreign Language 2020 Project was launched as a government initiative to improve the foreign language learning and teaching system nationally. One task of the project is to introduce English at grade 3, which requires significant re-training for the country’s large number of primary English teachers in both English proficiency and methodology. Training-of-trainers (ToT), a cascade model of trainer training, has therefore been adopted as an option. Drawing from two recent ToT programmes in Viet Nam for primary teachers, the paper discusses the needs of the participants and analyses how the programmes have and have not responded to these needs. Adopting the stakeholder approach in evaluation, the study provides an initial formative evaluation based on insider self-assessment. One of the key findings is that, despite significant efforts, the programmes still need a shaper focus on course design and delivery knowledge and a better connection with participants’ target training contexts.

Determinants Influencing Management Competency of Small and Medium Enterprise Directors in Vietnam

Thi Mai Huong DOAN,Minh Thuy DO,Thanh Lan MAI,Vu Phuong Anh DO,Thi Loan NGUYEN 한국유통과학회 2021 The Journal of Asian Finance, Economics and Busine Vol.8 No.12

Currently, small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) are accounting for about 98% of the total number of enterprises in Vietnam. Each year, SMEs create over one million new jobs, utilize up to 51% of the labor force in the society, and contribute more than 40% of GDP to the country. The study aims to analyze factors affecting the management competency of directors in small and medium enterprises in Vietnam. To achieve these research objectives, quantitative and qualitative methods were used concurrently. 300 questionnaires were sent out, but only 276 were collected and used for the quantitative analysis through SPSS 20.0 software. Cronbach’s Alpha, EFA, and regression were used to further confirm the research findings. The research findings show that all four proposed factors have impacts on the management competency of SME directors, among which enterprise features and specific policies for entrepreneur development in the locality have the strongest impacts, followed by personal features and business environment. The findings of this study suggest that managers need to focus on factors affecting the management competency of directors. This paper also provides new insight into the management competency of directors. Based on the findings, some recommendations are given for SMEs to improve management competency.

The Effect of Non-Audit Services on Auditor Independence: Evidence from Vietnam

DOAN, Nga Thanh,PHAM, Cuong Duc,NGUYEN, Thuong Thi Uyen,VU, Mai Phuong,PHAM, Lam Ha Korea Distribution Science Association 2020 The Journal of Asian Finance, Economics and Busine Vol.7 No.12

Independence is a factor which has a significant impact on auditing quality, especially in the recent times where the marketplace is increasingly demanding transparency. The independence of auditors is assessed based on the main criteria such as the reliability of the audit opinions, the accuracy, truthfulness of financial reports, and the objectivity in the opinions of the auditor. The study investigates the effects of non-audit services (NAS) on auditor independence in emerging economies such as Vietnam. Non-audit services include taxation services, management advisory services and outsourcing internal audit services. Based on previously relevant researches, the authors develop hypotheses and a regression model about non-audit services (independent variables) and audit independence (dependent variable). The research collects data by 5-scale Likert questionnaire. The findings indicate the relationship between NAS and auditor independence. Specifically, the results reveal two main factors that have influence on auditor independence, namely, taxation services and management advisory services. The results of our research can be considered as new findings and can be compared to previous researches in Vietnam, which establishes a new viewpoint about the relationship between the NAS and the independence of the auditor. This result can be implemented for countries or jurisdictions which are similar to Vietnam.

        Nak-Hwan Choi,Thanh-Hang VU,Quynh Mai Nguyen 한국유통과학회 2019 유통과학연구 Vol.17 No.9

Purpose - This study aimed at investigating the process of inducing the effect of green self-expressive motive and the fit between green premium and product on consumer’s intent to purchase the bundle product with the green premium. Research design, data, and methodology - The questionnaire for on-line survey built at Google Forms was spread out via popular social media sites. 243 responses from the on-line survey were used for testing the hypotheses. Structural equation model of Amos 21.0 was used to verify hypotheses. Results and Conclusions - Green self-expressive motive positively influenced on not only the perceived value for green premium but also attitude toward the bundle. However, the fit between green premium and product had positive impact only on the perceived value for green premium. The perceived value was proved to positively influence on the attitude toward the bundle, which in turn increased the purchase intention, even with the positive effects of the product attitude as covariate on the intention. Therefore, marketers should choose target customers who have high level of green self-expressive motive and feel the fit, and pay attention to the green premium to help the customers perceive more values for the green premium. They should develop green premium product for conducting marketing effectively.

Safety Attitudes among Vietnamese Medical Staff in a Vietnam Disadvantaged Area: Latent Class Analysis

        Thang Huu Nguyen,Thanh Hai Pham,Hue Thi Vu,Minh-Nguyet Thi Doan,Huong Thanh Tran,Mai Phuong Nguyen 한국의료질향상학회 2024 한국의료질향상학회지 Vol.30 No.1

Purpose: We conducted this study with the aim of characterizing safety attitudes (SA) among medical staff in a disadvantaged area of Vietnam and examining associated factors with SA. Methods: A cross-sectional survey was conducted on 442 health staff members at four hospitals in Son La Province from June until August 2021. We used the Vietnamese shortened edition of the Safety Attitudes Questionnaire to measure the SA of study participations. We chose latent class analysis (LCA) to identifying the number of latent classes of SA among the study subjects. Multinomial logistic regression was used to examine factors associated with the identified SA classes. Results: The results of our LCA showed that there were three latent classes, namely high SA group (n=150, 33.9%), moderate SA group (n=236, 53.4%), and low SA group (n=56, 12.7%). The multinomial logistic regression analysis found that medical staff who had university education and above, who were nurses, and who served in non-clinical areas were more likely to be in the moderate SA group and in the high SA group than in the low SA group. Conclusion: Based on these results, several recommendations could be made to improve the SA of healthcare workers in disadvantaged areas. Further research with larger sample sizes and more diverse populations is needed to confirm these findings and to develop effective interventions to improve the SA of healthcare workers in disadvantaged areas.
