Objectives: This study aims to examine if a garbage dumping site has real and negative influence on the quality of life (QOL) for the nearby residents. The net effects of the residential distance from the garbage dumping site and from the garbage truck route were investigated for five domains of the QOL. Methods: Two hundred fifty seven Shin-dong Myeon residents, Chun-cheon Si, participated in a self-administrated survey. The Shin-dong Myeon garbage dumping site began operating in 1996. ANCOV A with generalized linear models and multiple regression analysis were performed. Results: Descriptive analyses show that a residence nearby a garbage dumping site is negatively associated with the physical and environmental domains of the QOL. The residential distance from the garbage truck route does not exert any significant effect on various domains of QOL, except for the environmental domain. On the multivariate analysis, the residents living near the garbage dumping site tended to have a significantly negative QOL in the physical and environmental domains. However, the distance from the garbage truck route did not show a significant nor substantial effect on the QOL. The demographic and socioeconomic control variables are associated with a number of the QOL domains, and their patterns are consistent with the general expectations. Conclusions: The results indicated that a garbage dumping site is considered to be an environmental hazard among the nearby residents according to the lower scores on the physical and environmental domains of the QOL. The findings from this study provide comprehensive understanding on the residents' QOL, and they may help politicians and policy makers make decisions for appropriate interventions.

미세수술을 이용한 손톱재건의 치험례

The fingernail plays an important role in facilitating tactile sensibility of the finger pulp, in tip pinch, and in scratching. It also has aesthetic importance. Three main procedures are procedures are prosthetic mounting, nonvascularized free grafts, and vascularized free grafts. Although a prosthetic mounting has been reported, the nail grafting is physiologic and is considered to be more reasonable than a prostheses. For many years, nonvascularized free nail grafts were reported by many authors, but they have been unsuccessful, resulting in deformation or atrophy of the grafted nail. Free microvascular transfer of the dorsal tip of the toe, including the nail bed, is most reliable treatment to produce a growing nail in adults. We performed procedures on 3 patients for congenital nail absence, traumatic nail defect, and nail defect after perionychial infection during the period from March of 1993 to February of 1995. As for the donor site, we selected the great toenail and used an osteo-onychocutaneous flap with a nail bed and a small part of the distal phalanx. All 3 nails were successfully transferred with complete survival. Follow-up averaged 3 years, with a range of 2 years and 6 months to 3 years and 10 months. The grafted nail has shown excellent aesthetic results and appropriate nail growth occurred compared to a normal fingernail. All patients accepted site scar deformity.

To improve fatigue properties, usually the shot peening process is used in the industrial world. In order to achieve optimum, repeatable and reliable shot peening process, the important shot peening parameters must be controlled. The first item needed to achieve high quality shot peening is to keep shot balls in a good quality. This paper discusses of shape of commonly used shot ball. 직경 1˝ 자성관에서의 원격장와전류 탐상 실험 빛 결함신호 특성

In this study, a remote field eddy current testing system is built to inspect 1˝ diameter ferromagnetic tubes and resulting experimental signals are investigated. To decide the operating frequency, the emf of sensor coil is monitored while the sensor coil is moved away from the exciter. At proper frequency, sudden change would occur in the signal pattern. This also indicates the location of remote field region, so that the distance between coils can be decided. The defect signal contains two defect indications, each appears as the sensor and exciter coil passes a defect. Experimental results show that defect depth can be estimated by comparing the two indications. Also, linear relationship between defect depth and phase signal strength is observed.

가스관의 원격장와전류 탐상실험에서 관찰된 결함신호의 특성

When the identical coils are used for the exciter and sensor in the remote field eddy current (RFEC) probe, two defect indications appear in a single defect signal. The two indications are expected to be the same according to numerical simulation study. However, in our previous experimental work on 1" diameter ferromagnetic tube, we had found that the two indications in a phase signal are not identical and it may be possible to estimate the defect depth by comparing the two indications in a single phase signal. In this paper, those findings are re-examined with gas pipes whose diameter is 48.8 mm. At first, the operating frequency and the coil spacing in a probe are decided. Secondly, defect specimens are designed and built after examining edge effects and the signal sensitivity to the distance between sensor and defect. The RFEC testing experiments using these specimens show the same tendency as appeared in 1" diameter tube, i.e., the defect indication that appears in a phase signal as the exciter coil passes a defect is smaller for shallow defects, but it becomes bigger than the other for deep defects. This finding seems to be very important since it enables us to estimate the defect depth without preparing calibration curves for various depths of defects.

The purpose of this study is to define the correlation between consumer's needs appearing diversely in recent years and characteristics of apartment unit plan derived from categorizing composition forms of unit plan. The results of this study are as follows; ① The separation and connection of public zone have relation to use space economically with living room in the center. ② The opened space composition is reflected to an increase in size and openness of the living room. ③ The variability by the hierarchy change of space appears into the introduction of variable designs through light wall and family room. ④ The protection of privacy and communication have relation to the separation of master zone and conversion of inner room to family communication space. ⑤ The diversity and individualization of rooms appear into giving a special function to rooms increased by the extension of bay. ⑥ the extension and connection of service space are reflected to an increase in size of balcony and storage and the flexibility of utility space. ⑦ The recovery of emotionality has relation to the introduction of interior garden.

Nylon bag dry matter digestibility (NBDMD, %), nylon bag organic matter digestibility (NBOMD, %) and chemical compositions were analysed to evaluate the nutritive values of 5 varieties of NaOH-treated wheat straws (Jangkwang, Wonkwang, Suwon 210, Suwon 211, Naemil) by using Korean native male goats. Three grams of dried samples by grinding with 2.45㎜ Wiley mill screen were put into a bag 9×14㎠ made of 100 mesh nylon. These bags were put into the ventral sac of the rumen and taken out at the end of 72 hours. They were washed, dried in an oven at 105℃ for 24 hours and weighed “NBDMD” (%) and ashed in an muffle furnace at 600℃ or 24 hours and weighed “NBOMD”(%). The results which were obtained with this experiment were as follows: 1. Nylon bag dry matter digestibility (NBDMD, %) and nylon bag organic matter digestibility (NBOMD, %) of NaOH-treated wheat straws were highly significant different (p<0.01) in different levels of NaOH treatment and of different varieties of wheat straws. 2. The relationship between total mean NBDMD (%, Y_1) of 5 varieties of wheat straws and NaOH concentration (%, X) at 72 hours rumen incubation was: Y_1=34.57+3.56X(r=0.92^**) 3. The relationship between total mean MBOMD (%, Y_2) of 5 varieties of wheat straws and NaOH concentration (%, X) at 72 hours rumen incubation was: Y_2=32.02+2.46X(r=0.92^**) 4. The orders of NBDMD(%) and NBOMD(%) for 5 varieties of wheat straws were Suwon 210, Suwon 211, Naemil, Jangkwang, Wonkwang and Suwon 211, Suwon 210, Naemil, Jangkwang, Wonkwang, respectively. 5. The optimum level of NaOH for improving NBDMD(%) from 5 varieties of wheat straws, on the basis of Blaxter et al. (1961), was 6% NaOH.
