Comparison of methods studies should compare results by new or proposed method with those by a reference quality method or other generally accepted analytical method for which the performance is documented. The least squares method is frequently used to calculate the slope and intercept of the best line through a set of data points. However, least squares regression slopes and intercepts may be incorrect if the underlying assumptions of the least squares model are not met. Latest in the line of Hitachi systems, the Hitachi 747 is a high volume, random access system. It has capabilities for running states, automatic return of samples with a smaller volume, parameters for serum/plasma and urine, and multitasking capability. We performed method comparison studies against the current method for 8 different analytes with 49 samples for each chemistry. Also, Data analysis was performed according to the Kuwa protocol. The results of statistical studies indicate an acceptable performance over a clinically relevant range. We conclude that the Hitachi 747 analyzer is a reliable, precise and accurate system for routine clinical analytes. Its convenience and simplicity make it superior to the current autoanalyzer for our clinical applications in a hospital setting.

<P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>The present study highlights the options to enhance the methane potential of partially digested anaerobic sludge using disperser-induced bacterial disintegration. Floc dispersion with no biomass disintegration was achieved at a disperser-specific energy input of 9.5 kJ/kg TS. The outcomes of both sole bacterial disintegration (S-BD) and disperser-induced bacterial disintegration (D-BD) were assessed in terms of changes in lysate, biopolymer release and increase in biodegradability and methane generation. A higher lysate solubilization of about 22.4% was achieved in D-BD compared to S-BD (11.3%), indicating the efficiency of floc dispersion prior to bacterial disintegration. The biochemical methane result implies that D-BD shows higher methane potential of 0. 279 gCOD/gCOD. Apoptosis of mature T cells may be an important pathophysiologic mechanism in diseases such as AIDS, cancer, and autoimmunity. In this study, in order to selectively protect T cells from dexamethasone (DEX)-induced apoptosis we constructed a fusion protein (anti-CD3sFv-IL-2) in which anti-CD3 single-chain Fv (sFv), the smallest unit of antibody recognizing the CD3 epsilon moiety of the T-cell receptor (TCR), was covalently linked to murine interleukin-2 (IL-2). Recombinant anti-CD3sFv protein was also expressed and used as a control. The purified anti-CD3sFv-IL-2 protein displayed IL-2 bioactivity in an I L-2 proliferation assay, which was inhibited by a neutralizing mIL-2 mAb. The anti -CD3sFv-1L-2 protein protected T lymphoma cells (S49. 1) from DEX-induced apoptosis as demonstrated by oligonucleosomal genomic DNA fragmentation assay, and also recovered proliferation capacity of DEX-treated S49.1 cells and increased T cell composition both in DEX-treated spleen cell-populations and in DEX-treated mice, while the anti-CD3sFv protein did not. In addition, the anti-CD3sFv-IL-2 fusion protein was more efficient than a simple mixture of anti-CD3sFv and free rIL-2 in selectively protecting T cells from DEX-induced apoptosis. The levels of bcl-2 gene expression were significantly increased in DEX-treated T cells in the presence of the anti-CD3sFv-IL-2 protein. These studies indicate that the anti-CD3sFv-IL-2 fusion protein can selectively protect T cells from DEX-induced apoptosis and that the covalent linkage of anti-CD3sFv and IL-2 confines the anti-apoptotic effect of IL-2 to T cells.

A laser shock cleaning technology is a new dry cleaning methodology for the effective removal of small particles from the surface. This technique uses a plasma shock wave produced by a breakdown of air due to an intense laser the cleaning performance quantitatively by using a monitoring technique. In this paper, and acoustic monitoring technique was attempted to investigate the laser wide-band microphone with high sensitivity was utilized to detect acoustic signals during the cleaning process. It was found that the intensity of the shock wave was strongly dependent on the power density of laser beam and the gas species at the laser beam focus. As p power density was larger, the shock wave became stronger. It was also seen that the shock wave became stronger in the case of Ar gas compared with air and N_2 gas.

저자들은 최근 영남대 의대 부속병원 외과에서 치험한 원발 경화성 담관염 1예를 보고하고 아울러 문헌을 고찰하였다. Sclerosing Cholangitis is an uncommon disease which involves either all or part of the extrahepatic biliary duct system and, occassionally, affects the intrahepatic biliary radicles. The disease has also been called "obliterative cholagitis" nad "stenosing cholangitis", in reference to a progressive thickening of the bile duct walls encroaching upon the lumen. Several authors have porposed that the temr "primary sclerosing cholangitis" be reserved for cases in whic there arew no associated diseases, and that all other cases be calssified as "secondary sclerosing cholangitis". Many rigid criterias have been estalbilished for the diagnosis of primary sclerosing cholangitis. Recently the authors experienced one case of primary sclerosing cholangitis which was coincided with rigid criterias and was confirmed by operation with histologic examination. We present our case and review the literatures.

<P><B><I>Der Einsatz von elementarem Schwefel</I></B> als Reaktionsmedium für die Herstellung von Goldnanopartikeln und vulkanisierten Nanokompositen wird in der Zuschrift von J. Pyun et al. auf Seite 11 611 ff. beschrieben. Flüssiger Schwefel dient in diesem System als Lösungsmittel, Reduktionsmittel und Stabilisator für die Herstellung von Goldkolloiden. Potenziell nutzbarer elementarer Schwefel fällt in riesigen Mengen beim Raffinieren von Erdöl an.</P>
