광양만과 여수해만의 표층퇴적물에서 Nonylphenol의 오염에 관한 연구

This study was carried out to survey the pollution of nonvlphenol (NP) in surface sediments around Gwangyang bay and Yeosu sound. NP was suspected chemicals as endocrine disruption. Gwangyang bay is located on the mid south coast of Korea. It is a semi-closed bay which Yeosu petrochemical industrial complex, POSCO (Pohang Steel Company) and Gwangyang container harbor are there. The surface sediments were collected at 15 stations with gravity corer at October, 1999, February, May and August, 2000. Also, the stream and intertidal sediment were collected at 5 sites at August, 2000. Concentrations of NP in surface sediments were in the range of 6.89 to 202.70 ng/g dry wt.. Seasonal range (mean value) of NP is 13.98 to 30.48 (23.46) ng/g dry wt. at October, 10.35 to 54.91 (28.10) ng/g dry wt. at February, 29.05 to 202.70 (82.32) ng/g dry wt. at May and 6.98 to 83.40 (25.37) ng/g dry wt. at August. NP was seasonally fluctuated, and the highest mean value and range was detected at May, 2000. NP was highly distributed in the inner part of Gwangyang bay than Yeosu sound. Concentrations of NP in stream and intertidal sediments showed the highest value in downstream near Yeosu petrochemical industrial complex and Yondung stream. It suggests that the source of NP is industrial wastewater and municipal sewage.

In Korea, mass mortality of Quercus mongolica trees has become obvious since 2004. Raffaelea quercus-mongolicae is believed to be a causal fungus contributing the mortality. To evaluate the pathogenicity of the fungus to the trees, the fungus was multiple- and single-inoculated to the seedlings and twigs of the mature trees, respectively. In both the inoculations, the fungus was reisolated from more than 50% of inoculated twigs and seedlings. In the single inoculations, proportions of the transverse area of non-conductive sapwood at inoculation points and vertical lengths of discoloration expanded from the points were significantly different between the inoculation treatment and the control. In the multiple inoculations, no mortality was confirmed among the seedlings examined. These results showed that R. quercus-mongolicae can colonize sapwood, contribute to sapwood discoloration and disrupt sap flows around inoculation sites of Q. mongolica, although the pathogenicity of the fungus was not proven.

Polymeric nanoparticles composed of polystyrene (PS) as core and poly(methacrylic acid) (PMA) as corona were prepared by the dispersion copolymerization. The potential of the nanoparticles as carriers for recombinant human epidermal growth factor (EGF) was investigated. The nanoparticles showed monodispersity and good water-dispersibility. The loading content of EGF to the nanoparticles was very high due to electrostatic interaction between EGF and nanoparticles. EGF was released as a pseudo-zero order pattern after initial burst effect. The nanoparticles were sufficient for A431 cells proliferation.

Galactose moiety was covalently coupled with chitosan to improve hepatocyte adhesion and heparin was immobilized to the galactosylated chitosan (GC) to enhancing hepatocyte function. Hepatocyte adhesion to heparin immobilized GC (GCH)-casted polystyrene (PS) dish was higher than that to chitosan-casted PS dish although it was slightly lower than GC-casted PS dish owing to the hydrated GCH-casted PS dish. Spreading of hepatocytes attached onto GCH-casted PS dish was increased with an increase of heparin for the GCH in the presence of hepatocyte growth factor (HGF). Also, DNA synthesis of the hepatocyte adhered to GCH-casted PS dish was increased with an increase of heparin in the GCH. Higher levels of albumin secretion were maintained on the GCH-casted PS dish than chitosan- or GC-casted PS dishes.

Large language models (LLMs) such as ChatGPT have garnered considerable interest for their potential to aid non-native English-speaking researchers. These models can function as personal, round-the-clock English tutors, akin to how Prometheus in Greek mythology bestowed fire upon humans for their advancement. LLMs can be particularly helpful for non-native researchers in writing the Introduction and Discussion sections of manuscripts, where they often encounter challenges. However, using LLMs to generate text for research manuscripts entails concerns such as hallucination, plagiarism, and privacy issues; to mitigate these risks, authors should verify the accuracy of generated content, employ text similarity detectors, and avoid inputting sensitive information into their prompts. Consequently, it may be more prudent to utilize LLMs for editing and refining text rather than generating large portions of text. Journal policies concerning the use of LLMs vary, but transparency in disclosing artificial intelligence tool usage is emphasized. This paper aims to summarize how LLMs can lower the barrier to academic writing in English, enabling researchers to concentrate on domain-specific research, provided they are used responsibly and cautiously.
