New Design of a Fiber Channel-Embedded Set-Top Box for IPTV Networks

The Internet protocol television (IPTV) service enables people to enjoy various Internet-based services via conventional TV watching. In the IPTV system, a set-top box (STB) is the key since it works as a terminal device that can relay real-time multimedia content from the Internet. However, the current IPTV STB functions as an attached device in a local area network although the actual IPTV network is usually served by an optical fiber-based network such as fiber-to-the-home (FTTH). Therefore, we introduce a novel fiber channel (FC)-embedded IPTV STB to fully use the sufficient optical fiber-based network bandwidth such as 1 Gbps. To verify the IPTV network capabilities by impact of the FC-embedded STB, we evaluate the performance of the FC-embedded STB-attached IPTV network architecture via extensible simulations in terms of an average startup-delay, an average reject ratio, and the number of concurrent users. Surprisingly, the suggested IPTV system demonstrates superior average startup-delay (less than 15 msec), an acceptable average reject-ratio less than 3%, and an almost linear increasing number of concurrent users, which reveals that the FC-embedded STB significantly affects the entire FC-AL-based IPTV network performance by efficiently facilitating the broadband optical fiber bandwidth.

<P>With the advent of a consumer device such as a personal video recorder, recent advances in multimedia technologies have led to various enhanced services in the network area. In particular, a fiber channel arbitration loop-based network among PVRs has been presented to demonstrate the feasibility of high-quality content sharing. In addition, a multiple-loop architecture with shared disks, instead of expensive FC switches, has been devised in order to overcome the limit on the number of accommodable PVR users. Nevertheless, there arises the need for a practically constructible topology solution since the multiple-loop architecture is based on complete graph topology that requires the most connectivity for configuration. Therefore, we propose an innovative minimum spanning treebased graph topology for multiple-loop topology organization. The MSG-based multiple-loop architecture can determine the constant average loop size and constant reject ratio, regardless of the number of deployed loops, and the acceptable total traffic with much less connectivity than CG, thereby effectively supporting high-quality live content sharing and distribution between PVRs.</P>

<P>We demonstrate directed nucleation of Au and ZnS patterns on templates comprised of functional peptides and an M13 bacteriophage. We discuss the control over nucleation in terms of the interplay between enhanced ion binding and reduced interfacial energy resulting from the presence of the templates.</P>
블록체인인 환경에서 합의의 확장성 개선을 위한 무효표를 활용한 비잔틴 합의 방법

블록체인의 확장성을 향상하기 위해 다양한 방법들이 제시되고 연구되고 있으나 블록체인에서 실행되는 대부분의 동작이 합의 과정에 직간접적으로 관련되어 있어 합의 작업의 비용을 줄이지 않고서는 블록체인 확장성의 근본적 개선이 어렵다. 본 논문은 무효표를 활용한 비잔틴 합의 방법을 적용하여 블록체인 확장성 문제를 해결하는 방안을 제안한다. 비잔틴 오류 발생 노드를 비정상적인 메시지(프로토콜 규칙에 어긋나는 메시지)를 보낸 경우, 두 개 이상의 상충하는 정상적인 메시지를 보낸 경우, 특정 시간 안에 메시지를 보내지 않는 경우로 산출한다. 무효표를 활용하여 자신이 비잔틴 오류가 없다는 걸 증명하는 데 사용한다. 비잔틴 오류를 정의하여 비잔틴 오류 발생 노드를 제외하고 합의를 하여 단위 시간당 트랜잭션 처리량(TPS)과 최종성(finality)을 확보하는데 걸리는 시간이 개선됨을 확인하였다.

본 연구에서는 유기적으로 기능화된 은 나노 입자들은 공기와 물이 형성하는 계면에서 자발적 조립 과정을 통해 새로운 2차원 상부 구조들(superstructures)을 생성하는 것을 발견하였다. 상부 구조의 분석은 금속 나노 입자의 심형과 입자계면에 결합된 유기 분자의 크기를 바꿈으로써 입자 간 특징적 상호 작용(characteristic inter-particle interaction)을 조절할 수 있고 이들 사이의 미묘한 상호 작용(subtle interplay)을 통해 은 나노 입자의 2차원 조립이 발생함을 시사한다. 본 연구를 통해 발견한 새로운 구조들은 기능성 나노 소재, 촉매 및 소자 응용 분야에 매우 중요한 잠재적 용도가 있을 것이라 사료된다. We report organically functionalized Ag nanoparticles spontaneously form two-dimensional (2D) novel superstructures at the air-water interface. Analysis of the superstructures suggests that the 2D assembly of Ag nanoparticles originates from a subtle interplay between characteristic inter-particle interactions that can be readily controlled by changing the sizes of nanoparticle metal core and surfactants. Such structures have potential uses in nanostructured functional materials, catalysis, and device applications.

Purpose: The aim of this study was to identify the change in hand grip strength (HGS) for consecutive 6 months in breast cancer survivors (BCS) undergoing postoperative adjuvant chemotherapy (adjCTX) and to determine the factors relevant to HGS after chemotherapy completion Methods: This study was a retrospective observational cohort study. BCS (N=38) who underwent breast cancer surgery and subsequent adjCTX were enrolled. The HGS of both sides was measured before adjCTX and 3 weeks, 2 months and 6 months after adjCTX. And we also collected body composition, anthropometric measurements, social demographics and clinical data. Then we analyzed the changes in HGS over time, and correlation of collected data with HGS at 6 months. Results: A significant increase in HGS of the unaffected side was observed within the first 3 weeks of adjCTX and maintained up to 6 months. In correlation analysis, HGS of both sides was positively correlated with the ipsilateral HGS at 3 weeks, and contralateral HGS at 6 months. And skeletal muscle mass was also positively correlated with the HGS of the unaffected side. In addition, subjects treated with targeted therapy had lower HGS of the unaffected side. However, HGS of the affected side was significantly lower in subjects with breast reconstruction and treated without radiotherapy. Conclusions: To maintain the early recovery of HGS, active and continuous exercise intervention for strengthening might be necessary.

Purpose: This study is to introduce our preliminary experience of the Doppler-guided hemorrhoidal artery ligation and Rectoanal repair (DG-HAL & RAR) as a new treatment for symptomatic or prolapsed hemorrhoids. Methods: A Doppler probe incorporated proctoscope was inserted under the lithotomy position and the location of the hemorrhoidal artery was identified. The identified artery was ligated as a ‘figure of eight’ method with an absorbable suture into the submucosa. Then the prolapsed hemorrhoidal pile was lifted at the rectal mucosa by continuous suture to 5 ㎜ above the dentate line and tied. The procedure was repeated at the 1, 3, 5, 7, 9, and 11 o’clock positions. We evaluated post-operative hospital stay, degree of pain, time to return to work, and recurrence. Results: The patient’s mean age was 50.2±15 years old and the mean follow-up time was 415±75 days. The constitution of the type of internal hemorrhoids was as follows: Grade Ⅱ: 13, Grade Ⅲ: 16, and Grade Ⅳ: 5. The mean operation time was 35 minutes and post-operative hospital stay was 1.4 days. The mean time it took to return to work was 1.8 days. There were no severe pains requiring injection of analgesics or other severe complications. So far, 2 patients have had recurrence of symptoms. Conclusion: The DG-HAL & RAR is a safe and less painful procedure. The DG-HAL & RAR is an effective alternative for the treatment of symptomatic or prolapsed hemorrhoids.
