Background: We evaluated the prevalence of gastroesophageal refi ux diseases (GERD) in noncardiac chest pain (NCCP) patients, risk factors for GERD, and status of prescriptions for GERD in Korean population. Methods: This was a retrospective non-interventional observational nation-wide multicenter (45 centers) study. Patients who had a normal coronary angiogram (CAG) and upper gastroendoscopy within 2 years after CAG were enrolled. The prevalence of GERD among them was examined. Other gastrointestinal diseases including peptic ulcer diseases or gastritis were also examined. We compared the risk factors for GERD between the GERD group and non-GERD group. The ratio of patients who had a medications for gastrointestinal diseases (antacids or proton-pump inhibitor) was also examined. Results: Total of nine hundred four patients were enrolled. The prevalence of GERD among NCCP patients was 436(48. 2%) of 904 patients. Peptic ulcer disease were present in 154 patients, 17. 0%. The prevalence of gastritis was 659(72. 9%) of 904 patients. There was no difference in risk factors for GERD between GERD group and non- GERD group. Medications for GERD and other gastrointestinal diseases were prescribed in 742 patients, 82. 1% of all the NCCP patients. Conclusions: GERD were common (42. 8%) in Korean NCCP patients and most of them (82. 1%) were prescribed for GI medications in Korea. But we could not fi nd any differences in risk factors between GERD and non-GERD groups.

<P>Matrix metalloproteinase-2 (MMP-2), MMP-9, and urokinase-type plasminogen activator (uPA) are important factors for cancer invasion and metastasis, degrading the extracellular matrix. They are also associated with angiogenesis. Angiogenic phenotype is another feature of high-grade cervical intraepithelial neoplasia (CIN). However, their associations with the progression of low-grade CIN to high-grade CIN are unexplored. We investigated whether these proteolytic enzyme expressions correlate with the progression of CIN. A total of 39 paraffin-embedded specimens from 10 patients with CIN grade 1, nine with CIN grade 2, and 20 with CIN grade 3 were assessed immunohistochemically by specific antibodies against MMP-2, MMP-9, and uPA. MMP-9 expression was higher in CIN 3 lesions (47.4%) than in CIN 1 (22.2%) and CIN 2 (20.2%) lesions, although the difference failed to reach statistical significance. The expression level of uPA and MMP-2 was not associated with the grade of CIN lesions. Interestingly, we found a significant association between expressions of uPA and MMP-2 (P= 0.028). Our results suggest that MMP-9 might play a role in the progression of CIN.</P>
The Effect of ginseng Saponin in Androgen Biosynthesis

It was attempted to observe the effects of ginseng saponin, one of the major components of Korean Panax ginseng (C, A, Meyer) roots, on cholesterol transport and androgen biosynthesis in vivo as well as in vitro, and the following results were obtained. 1. Ginseng saponin was adminstered by stomach tubing prior to intraperitoneal injection of (4-^(14)C)-cholesterol into adult male rats, They were sacrificed from 1 hr to 24 hr after the injection of cholesterol. The tissue samples were homogenated, extracted and counted, 2. The first high radioactivity of the liver of test animal was observed 6 hr after radioactive cholesterol injection. However, that of control appeared at 12 hr after the injection, 3. The first high radioactivity in blood serum of the test group appeared at 6 hr after radioactive cholesterol injection, while that of control group at 16 hr after the injection, 4. The first high radioactivity of the test rats was observed between 4 and 6 hr after radioactivity peak at 12 hr. 5. The effect of ginseng saponin on androgen biosynthesis in vitro by the rat testis homogenate was investigated, It was found that the degree of cholesterol transformation into androstendione and testosteron of test was much higher than that of control, suggesting that the ginseng saponin stimulated the biosynthesis of androgens.

<P>The objective of this study is to investigate the file exchange compatibility of BIM based building energy simulation tools, especially focusing on various irregular building geometry shapes. As a base building modeling software, AUTOCAD Revit was selected and various building geometry shapes were created using Revit, such as curved and pitched walls, roofs, slabs with various air-conditioning zones. And these various shaped building zones were imported to ECOTECT, IES/VE and Openstudio for EnergyPlus, which are professional building energy simulation tools. Through this create-import process, the deformation of building shapes, change of zone volume, and compatibility to each simulation engine were investigated and analyzed.</P>
Physicochemical and Functional Properties of Chitosans Prepared from Ground and Entire Squid Pens

Selected physicochemical, binding, antioxidant, and antibacterial properties of chitosans prepared from ground (designated as G-chitosan) and entire (designated as E-chitosan) squid (Todarodes pacifica) pens were evaluated. G-chitosan had significantly lower nitrogen content, degree of deacetylation (%), color lightness (L*) and redness (a*) values, but higher bulk density, viscosity and color yellowness (b*) values than E-chitosan. Compared with E-chitosan, G-chitosan exhibited higher waterbinding capacity, dye-binding capacity and antibacterial activity against two gram-negative (Salmonella Enteritidis and Escherichia coli) and two gram-positive (Listeria monocytogenes and Staphylococcus aureus) bacteria. However, it exhibited lower fat-binding capacity and DPPH radical scavenging activity. This study demonstrated that chitosans prepared from ground and entire squid pens exhibited differences in their physicochemical and functional characteristics.

Selected physicochemical and functional properties of chitosans prepared from crab leg and abdomen shells were evaluated. The leg shell contained comparable protein (29.50% vs. 27.47%) and ash (47.70% vs. 48.40%) but lower fat (0.53% vs. 0.73% ) and chitin (21.09% vs. 22.73%) contents compared with the abdomen shell. Physicochemical characteristics of chitosans somewhat differed depending on the parts of crab shell. Chitosan from leg shell (leg chitosan) showed lower degree of deacetylation (89.13% vs. 91.48%) but higher viscosity (1424.67 mPa s vs. 559.90 mPa s) and bulk density (0.34 g/mL vs. 0.31 g/mL) than chitosan from abdomen shell (abdomen chitosan). Leg chitosan had comparable L* but higher a* and b* values than abdomen chitosan. Higher water-, fat-, and dye-binding capacities and DPPH radical scavenging activity were observed with abdomen chitosan, having higher degree of deacetylation and lower viscosity and bulk density.
Evaluation of the Weldability in Spot Welding using Ultrasonic Technique

Spot welding is the most widely used in automotive and aerospace industries. The quality of weld depends upon the size of nugget between the overlapped steel plates. Recently, the thickness of the steel plates is much thinner and hence, it introduces the smaller size of nugget. Therefore, it is necessary not only to develop the criterion to evaluate the quality of weld but also to obtain the optimal welding conditions for the better performance. In this paper, the steel plates, 0.5 mm through 1.5 mm thickness, have been spot welded at different welding conditions and the nugget sizes are examined by ultrasonic technique (C-scan type). The relationships between the nugget sizes and the weldability have been investigated. The result of ultrasonic technique shows the good agreement with that of the tensile test.
