Influence of Al2O3 Content and Cooling Rate on Crystallization in Fe2O3–CaO–SiO2–Al2O3 Systems
Tae Jun Park,Joon Sung Choi,Dong Joon Min 대한금속·재료학회 2022 METALS AND MATERIALS International Vol.28 No.9
The behavior of silico-ferrite of calcium and aluminum (SFCA) phases and the influence of sintered ore quality were investigatedusing a confocal laser scanning microscope to understand how the Al2O3content of iron ore affects the sintered orestructure and the crystallization behavior of SFCA in a Fe2O3–CaO–Al2O3–SiO2 pseudo-quaternary system. The experimentalresults were used to inform simulations of the heterogeneous dynamic behavior in response to the rapid temperature changesand various chemical compositions typically encountered in actual sintering processes. Increasing the Al2O3content in theFe2O3–CaO–Al2O3–SiO2 pseudo-quaternary system led to the hematite content decreasing, which affects the reducibilityof the sintered ore. The correlation between the creation of SFCA and the cooling effect associated with varying the Al2O3is discussed in detail.

<P>Parkinson's disease (PD) is the second leading neurodegenerative disease, and is known to be induced by environmental factors or genetic mutations. Among the verified genetic mutations of PD, Parkin, isolated from the PARK2 locus, shows an autosomal recessive inheritance pattern and is known to be an E3 ligase. However, the physiological target of Parkin and the molecular mechanism of Parkin-deficiency-induced PD have not been clearly demonstrated until now. It has recently been proposed that inflammation, suggesting as a causal factor for PD, is enhanced by Parkin deficiency. Thus, we examined the relationship between inflammation-related factors and Parkin. Here, we provide the evidence that Parkin suppresses inflammation and cytokine-induced cell death by promoting the proteasomal degradation of TRAF2/6 (TNF-α receptor-associated factor 2/6). Overexpression of Parkin can reduce the half-lives of TRAF2 and TRAF6, whereas si-Parkin can extend them. However, mutant Parkins did not alter the expression of TRAF2/6. Thus, loss of Parkin enhances sensitivity to TNF-α- or IL-1β-induced JNK activation and NF-κB activation. Indeed, si-Parkin-induced apoptosis is suppressed by the knockdown of TRAF6 or TRAF2. We also observed elevated expression levels of TRAF6 and a reduction of IκB in an 1-methyl-4-phenyl-1,2,3,6-tetrahydropyridine-induced PD mouse model. Moreover, elevated expression levels or aggregation of TRAF6 were detected in approximately half of the human PD tissues (7/15 cases) and 2 cases, respectively. In addition, TRAF6 and Parkin expression levels show a reverse relationship in human PD tissues. Our results strongly suggest that the reduction of Parkin or overexpression of TRAF2/6 by chronic inflammation would be the reason for occurrence of PD.</P>

This research has analyzed factors affecting customers` satisfaction when they use parking lots of big retailers so that, in case of constructing, operating or managing such retailers, proper measures can be come up with. The analysis has been implemented on the basis of survey, and influence factors including entry/exit lamp, parking cars`` traffic flow, parking type, pedestrians`` movement after parking and safety. Parking lot users`` satisfaction has been analyzed by using the Structural Equation Modelling and, as a result of it, in case of a detached or single building, pedestrians movement flow after parking contributed the most to the users`` satisfaction, while, in case of multipurpose complex, parking cars traffic flow has the most influential factor. It is interpreted that users of a single building put a bigger emphasis on entry to the shop and their way back to the parked area after their shopping while customers of multipurpose complex might have various purposes of visiting the place and there are relatively more cars so that they put more emphasis on traffic counterflow, other cars and pedestrians.

<P>Bilayer type CH3NH3PbI3 (MAPbI3) perovskite hybrid solar cells were fabricated via a one-step spin-coating process by using solubility controlled MAPbI3 solutions of MAPbI3–DMSO (dimethyl sulfoxide) and MAPbI3–DMF (N, N-dimethylformamide)–HI. The best DMSO-bilayer device showed 1.07?±?0.02 V <I>V</I> oc (open-circuit voltage), 20.2?±?0.1 mA cm−2 <I>J</I> sc (short-circuit current density), 68?±?2% FF (fill factor), and 15.2?±?0.3% <I>η</I> (overall power conversion efficiency) under the forward scan direction and 1.07?±?0.02 V <I>V</I> oc, 20.4?±?0.1 mA cm−2 <I>J</I> sc, 70?±?3% FF, and 15.9?±?0.4% <I>η</I> under the reverse scan direction. The best HI-bilayer device had 1.08?±?0.02 V <I>V</I> oc, 20.6?±?0.1 mA cm−2 <I>J</I> sc, 75?±?1% FF, and 17.2?±?0.2% <I>η</I> under the forward scan direction and 1.08?±?0.02 V <I>V</I> oc, 20.6?±?0.1 mA cm−2 <I>J</I> sc, 76?±?2% FF, and 17.4?±?0.3% <I>η</I> under the reverse scan direction. The deviation of average device efficiency (<img ALIGN='MIDDLE' ALT='${\eta }_{{\rm{avg}}})$' SRC='http://ej.iop.org/images/0957-4484/27/2/024004/nanoaa0741ieqn1.gif'/> of 20 DMSO samples and 20 HI samples was 14.2?±?0.95% and 16.2?±?0.85%, respectively. Therefore, the HI-bilayer devices exhibited better device efficiency and smaller <I>J</I>–<I>V</I> (current density–voltage) hysteresis with respect to the scan direction than the DMSO-bilayer devices due to the reduced recombination and traps by the formation of a purer and larger MAPbI3 perovskite crystalline film.</P>

<P>The High Expression Of Osmotically Responsive Gene 15–Evening Complex–histone deacetylase 9 histone-modifying complex regulates photoperiodic flowering via transcriptional repression of <I>GIGANTEA</I>.</P><P>In plants, seasonal inputs such as photoperiod and temperature modulate the plant’s internal genetic program to regulate the timing of the developmental transition from vegetative to reproductive growth. This regulation of the floral transition involves chromatin remodeling, including covalent modification of histones. Here, we report that HIGH EXPRESSION OF OSMOTICALLY RESPONSIVE GENE 15 (HOS15), a WD40 repeat protein, associates with a histone deacetylase complex to repress transcription of the <I>GIGANTEA</I> (<I>GI</I>)-mediated photoperiodic flowering pathway in Arabidopsis (<I>Arabidopsis thaliana</I>). Loss of function of HOS15 confers early flowering under long-day conditions because elevated <I>GI</I> expression. LUX ARRHYTHMO (LUX), a DNA binding transcription factor and component of the Evening Complex (EC), is important for the binding of HOS15 to the <I>GI</I> promoter. In wild type, HOS15 associates with the EC components LUX, EARLY FLOWERING 3 (ELF3), and ELF4 and the histone deacetylase HDA9 at the <I>GI</I> promoter, resulting in histone deacetylation and reduced <I>GI</I> expression. In the <I>hos15-2</I> mutant, the levels of histone acetylation are elevated at the <I>GI</I> promoter, resulting in increased <I>GI</I> expression. Our data suggest that the HOS15–EC–HDA9 histone-modifying complex regulates photoperiodic flowering via the transcriptional repression of <I>GI</I>.</P>

Backgrounds/Aims: Hepatic resection has only guaranteed long-term survival in patients with colorectal liver metastasis (CRLM) even in the era of effective chemotherapy. The definite role of neoadjuvant chemotherapy (NCT) is to improve outcomes of unresectable CRLMs, but it its role has not been defined for initially resectable CRLMs (IR-CRLMs). Methods: We reviewed the medical records of 226 patients, who had been diagnosed and treated for IR-CRLM between 2003 and 2008; the patients had the following pathologies: 10% had more than 4 nodules, 11% had tumors larger than 5 cm, and 61% had synchronous CRMLs. Among these patients, 20 patients (Group Y) were treated with NCT, and 206 (Group N) did not receive NCT according to their physician’s preference. The median follow-up time was 34.1 months. Results: The initial surgical plans were changed after NCT to further resection in 20% and to limited resection in 10% of 20 patients. Complication rates of Groups Y (30%) were indifferent from Group N (23%) (p=0.233), but intraoperative transfusions were more frequent in Group N (15%) than in Group Y (5%) (p=0.006). There was one case of hospital mortality (0.44%). Disease-free survival rates in Groups Y and N were 23% and 39%, respectively, and patient survival rates were 42% and 66% (p>0.05). By multivariate analysis, old age (≥60 years), differentiation of primary tumor (poorly/mucinous), resection margin involvement, and no adjuvant chemotherapy were associated with poor patient survival; the number of CRLMs (≥4) was associated with poor disease-free survival. Conclusions: NCT had neither a positive impact nor a negative impact on survival, even with intraoperative transfusion, as observed on operative outcomes for patients with IR-CRLM. Further study is required to elucidate the role of NCT for treatment of patient with IR-CRLMs. (Korean J Hepatobiliary Pancreat Surg 2011;15:206-217)

<P>Thalassiosira constricta was first described from Tromsø in the Norwegian Sea. The species was placed in the large and morphologically diverse genus Thalassiosira based on the presence of classical features of that genus, including the formation of chains held together by β-chitin threads extruded from central fultoportulae. We recently discovered T. constricta in Korean coastal waters near Sinsi Island. Detailed morphological analyses revealed the following cell wall features: i) cells arranged in chains, with adjacent cells directly abutting one another or distinctly separated and linked by β-chitin threads extruded from a central cluster of 0-14 fultoportulae, ii) delicate, biseriate poroid areolae along radial ribs on the valve face and coarse loculate areolae on the valve mantle, iii) a cingulum structure consisting of finely perforated valvocoupla and copula and scratched pleurae, iv) distinct antiligula on the valve, v) a single ring of marginal fultoportulae, vi) one rimoportula located within the ring of marginal fultoportulae, vii) fultoportulae with internal extensions that lack opercula, and viii) fultoportulate with four fully exposed satellite pores, each in a depression and surrounded by a defined cowling. Phylogenetic analysis of nuclear and plastid markers revealed a sister relationship with Bacterosira bathyomphala. Based on these findings, we transfer T. constricta to Bacterosira as Bacterosira constricta comb. nov. and offer an emended the description of the genus Bacterosira, which appears to be one of only a few monophyletic marine genera in Thalassiosirales.</P>
