Objective : The purpose of this report is to examine the effects of direct moxibustion in the Low back pain patient. Methods : Clinical studies were done 30 patients who were treated with low back pain to Dept. of Acupuncture & Moxibustion, of Oriental Medical Sang-Ji University from September 1, 2003 to August 31, 2004. We treated them by Oriental medical therapy(including direct moxibustion)for 10 days. The evaluation was performed five times(admission day, before and after each twice). Results : 1. VAS was decreased after direct moxibustion for 10 days significantly(p<0.01). 2. After direct moxibustion, S.L.R. T angle of patients were increased. ConclUsions : We brought to the conclusion that direct moxibustion has possibility to the efficient to cure the Low back pain. So we suggest the possibility to use this treatment for Low back pain.

Life-cycle Cost Analysis of a TPSM Applied Continuous Composite Girder Bridge

Transverse cracks in composite girder bridges are repeatedly reported because the tensile stresses in the concrete deck induced by the negative bending moment at the intermediate supports of continuous composite girder bridges. The occurred transverse cracks rapidly deteriorate the concrete deck, giving rise to frequent need for maintenance work. Prestressing methods are usually utilized in this kind of situation for the concrete structures, however no effective and feasible method has yet been proposed for steel-concrete composite structures. A new type of prestressing method entitled Thermal prestressing method (TPSM) has been proposed for innovative construction of continuous composite girder bridges, as effective prestressing method to prevent the occurrence of the tensile transverse crack of the concrete deck at the negative bending moment regions. In this study, the methodology for the economic analysis of TPSM applied bridges and case studies are introduced based on the lifecycle cost, considering initial construction cost and maintenance cost, to demonstrate the financial viability of the TPSM applied bridges compared to conventional continuous composite girder bridges.

Backgrounds/Aims: Gallbladder carcinoma (GBCa) T2 lesions are considered to be advanced tumors showing diverse features in tumor extent. When this T2 lesion does not involve the cystic duct and there is no evidence of lymph node metastasis, we have to consider what is the most reasonable extent of resection - that is, whether to perform concurrent extra-hepatic bile duct resection (EHBD) resection or not. This study intends to evaluate the adequacy of EHBD resection in patients undergoing resection for T2N0 GBCa. Methods: From our institutional database of GBCa, 48 cases of T2N0 GBCa who underwent R0 resection during November 1995 and August 2008 were selected. Patients who underwent prior laparoscopic cholecystectomy were excluded. Their medical records were reviewed retrospectively. Results: Their mean age was 63.2±83.3 years and females were 25. The mean serum CA19-9 level was 37.3±89.3 ng/ml. The extents of liver resection were wedge resection (n=36) and segment 4a+5 resection (n=12). Concurrent EHBD resection was performed in 16 (33.3%) patients. No fatal surgical complication occurred. The majority of tumor pathology was adenocarcinoma (n=42), with additional unusual types as papillary (n=3), saromatoid (n=1), signet ring cell (n=1) and adenosquamous (n=1) cancers. The overall survival rate was 87.1% at 1 year, 69.5% at 3 years and 61.7% at 5 years. After exclusion of mortalities not related to cancer, the overall patient survival rate was 89.6% at 1 year, 72.9% at 3 years and 64.7% at 5 years, with 3-year survival rates of 72% in the EHBD resection group and 69.2% in the non-resection group (p=0.661). Conclusions: The results of this study indicate that concurrent EHBD resection did not improve patient survival when R0 resection was achieved in patients with T2N0 GBCa. Therefore, routine EHBD resection may not be indicated for T2N0 GBCa unless the tumor is close to the cystic duct. (Korean J Hepatobiliary Pancreat Surg 2012;16:142-146)

Korean ginseng has been used for thousands of years as an important medicinal plant. Lime-Bordeaux mixture (LBM) was made with copper sulfate and quicklime, which was sprayed instead of pesticides in ginseng field. Net photosynthesis ($P_N$) was compared between Treatment and Non-treatment of LBM in 3 Year Old Ginseng. $P_N$ in control plot recorded $2.94{\mu}mol\;(CO_2)\;m^{-2}s^{-1}$ at the first day of experiment, which was similar until the last day of experiment. However, The $P_N$ in LBM recorded $2.23{\mu}mol\;(CO_2)\;m^{-2}s^{-1}$, which was lower than that in control plot. As time goes by, The $P_N$ in LBM was gradually increased up to $3.21{\mu}mol\;(CO_2)\;m^{-2}s^{-1}$ and finally, it was similar with that in control plot at 7th day as a $3.20{\mu}mol\;(CO_2)\;m^{-2}s^{-1})$.

Purpose: To establish the standard of procedure in preparing benign and cancerous prostate tissues and evaluate the quality of proteomics and phosphoproteomics during transurethral resection of the prostate (TUR-P) with different surgical conditions. Materials and Methods: TUR-P tissue samples from three patients, two diagnosed with prostate cancer and one with benign prostatic hyperplasia, were each analyzed under three different conditions, based on differences in energy values, tissue locations, and surgical techniques. Global- and phosphorylated proteomic profiles of prostate tissues were analyzed by liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry. Results: A total of 6,019 global proteins and 4,280 phosphorylated peptides were identified in the nine tissues. The quantitative distributions of proteins and phosphorylation in tissues from the same patient were not affected by changes in the surgical conditions, but indirect relative comparisons differed among patients. Phosphorylation levels, especially of proteins involved in the androgen receptor pathway, important in prostate cancer, were preserved in each patient. Conclusions: Proteomic profiles of prostate tissue collected by TUR-P were not significantly affected by energy levels, tissue location, or surgical technique. In addition, since protein denaturation of samples through TUR-P is rarely confirmed in this study, we think that it will be an important guide for tissue samples in castration resistant prostate cancer patients, where it is difficult to obtain tissue. This result is the first report about proteomic and phosphoproteomic results with TUR-P samples in prostate cancer and will be theoretical basis in protein analysis research with prostate cancer tissues.

<P>Activation of spinal glial cells plays a crucial role in the pathogenesis of neuropathic pain. An administration of oxaliplatin, an important anticancer drug, often induces acute neuropathic cold hypersensitivity and/or mechanical hypersensitivity in patients. Gyejigachulbu-tang (GBT), a herbal formula comprising<I> Cinnamomi Cortex, Paeoniae Radix, Atractylodis Lanceae Rhizoma, Zizyphi Fructus, Glycyrrhizae Radix, Zingiberis Rhizoma, </I>and<I> Aconiti Tuber</I>, has been used in East Asia to treat various pain symptoms, especially in cold patients. This study investigated whether and how GBT alleviates oxaliplatin-induced cold and mechanical hypersensitivity in rats. The behavioral signs of cold and mechanical hypersensitivity were evaluated by a tail immersion test in cold water (4°C) and a von Frey hair test, respectively. The significant cold and mechanical hypersensitivity were observed 3 days after an oxaliplatin injection (6 mg/kg, i.p.). Daily oral administration of GBT (200, 400, and 600 mg/kg) for 5 days markedly attenuated cold and mechanical hypersensitivity. Immunoreactivities of glial fibrillary acidic protein (GFAP, astrocyte marker) and OX-42 (microglia marker) in the spinal dorsal horn were significantly increased by an oxaliplatin injection, which were restored by GBT administration. These results indicate that GBT relieves oxaliplatin-induced cold and mechanical hypersensitivity in rats possibly through the suppression of spinal glial activation.</P>
