The Nile tilapia Oreochromis niloticus, Atlantic salmon Salmo salar, rainbow trout Oncorhynchus mykiss, olive flounder Paralichthys olivaceus, common carp Cyprinus carpio, grass carp Ctenopharyngodon idella and rohu carp Labeo rohita are farmed commercially worldwide. Production of these important finfishes is rapidly expanding, and intensive culture practices can lead to stress in fish, often reducing resistance to infectious diseases. Antibiotics and other drugs are routinely used for the treatment of diseases and sometimes applied preventatively to combat microbial pathogens. This strategy is responsible for the emergence and spread of antimicrobial resistance, mass killing of environmental/beneficial bacteria, and residual effects in humans. As an alternative, the administration of probiotics has gained acceptance for disease control in aquaculture. Probiotics have been found to improve growth, feed utilization, immunological status, disease resistance, and to promote transcriptomic profiles and internal microbial balance of host organisms. The present review discusses the effects of single and multi-strain probiotics on growth, immunity, heamato-biochemical parameters, and disease resistance of the above-mentioned finfishes. The application and outcome of probiotics in the field or open pond system, gaps in existing knowledge, and issues worthy of further research are also highlighted.

A study was performed to analyze the biochemical composition (moisture, protein, fat, ash, salt value, iron, calcium and phosphorus) of raw and salted hilsa. Pure (with less than 1% impurities) and clean dry salt was used (fish weight : salt weight = 3 : 1) for salting the hilsa. The nutrients values of the hilsa from two different regions were significantly (p < 0.05) varied. The biochemical compositions were also different before and after the processing of the hilsa. Riverine hilsa contains relatively more moisture (57.79 ± 0.51%) and protein (15.65 ± 0.50%) than marine hilsa. Fat (16.39 ± 0.51%) and salt (1.80 ± 0.14%) contents are higher in marine hilsa; whereas the ash (7.88 ± 0.35%) content was higher in the riverine hilsa. Minerals like iron (4.92 ± 0.32 mg/100 g) and calcium (480.02 ± 6.73 mg/100 g) remain in large amounts in the marine hilsa, but the phosphorus (112.36 ± 4.40 mg/100 g) content remains at a high level in the riverine hilsa. In addition, the protein (raw condition, 18.54 ± 0.46%, riverine; 17.12 ± 0.42%, marine and salted condition, 32.54 ± 0.5%, riverine; 27.31 ± 0.48%, marine) and fat (raw condition, 15.41 ± 0.46%, riverine; 19.07 ± 0.51%, marine and salted condition, 11.58 ± 0.39%, riverine; 13.6 ± 0.55%, marine) contents were higher in the abdominal region of the riverine and marine hilsa both in the raw and salted conditions than in the head and caudal region.
A Study on the Export Potential of Bangladesh’s Ready-Made Garments

This article explores the international trade flow of Bangladesh’s ready-made garments (RMG). We first suggest the brief history and an international structure of trade among countries by using the trade volume. Then we implemented a gravity model regression with the sample of 38 major partner countries in order to investigate the potential export market for the RMG industry. The fixed effect and random effect model for the panel data during the period of 1990 to 2011 are estimated. Our result shows that Bangladesh’s RMG exports are affected positively by the size of economy, inflation, exchange rate, foreign direct investment(FDI) and trade openness. On the other hand, the distance between trading partners are related negatively with the trade volume. We used the estimated coefficients from the panel regression in order to predict RMG export potential of Bangladesh. This might show which country is the promising export market for Bangladesh RMG industry. We found that Bangladesh has the highest potential of RMG export with Japan and USA, which seem to have considerable room for export growth if trade barriers and constraints are removed. We added some policy implications for encouraging the RMG export of Bangladesh by using the results from the analysis.

This paper investigates the technical efficiency and total factor productivity of the Bangladesh textile industry after Rana Plaza tragedy by using Malmquist Productivity Index (MPI) method during the period of 2009 to 2015. We used Feasible Generalized Least Square (FGLS) method to estimate the effects of potential factors that influenced the total factor productivity (TFP) of the firms. The result shows that after the Rana Plaza tragedy the textile firms experienced decline in total factor productivity. The regression estimation indicates that wage of labor, Rana Plaza tragedy, and internal political crisis are found to have negative effect on textile firms.
On Transiting Key in XML Data Transformation for Integration

Transformation of a source schema with its conforming data to a target schema is an important activity in data integration with any data model. In last decade, with the advent of XML as an widely used and adopted data representation and storage format over the web, the task of data transformation for the purpose of data integration solely in XML is getting much attention to the database researchers and application developers. In XML data transformation, when an XML source schema with its conforming data is transformed to the target XML schema, one of the important XML constraints, XML keys that are defined on the source schema for expressive semantics can also be transformed. Thus, whether keys should be transformed and preserved, and if not preserved, whether keys can be captured in another form of XML constraints are important research questions. To answer these questions, first, we define XML keys and XML Functional Dependencies(XFD) on Document Type Definition(DTD). Second, we show key preservation in transformation. If keys are not preserved, we then show how to capture them as XFDs. We term this as key transition. Our research on XML key preservation and transition is towards handling the issues of integrity constraints in XML data integration.

In Thai traditional medicine, Plumbago indica or Jetamul-Pleung-Dang in Thai is known to have health benefit especially for anti-inflammatory, antibacterial, and antitumor activities. However, the mechanisms of its action are still uncertain. One of which might be genotoxic effects. In the present study, we investigated the genotoxicity of an ethanolic extract of Plumbago indica root (EEPIR) by sister chromatid exchange (SCE) assay in human lymphocytes. Results have shown that all treatments with EEPIR ($12.5-100{\mu}g/ml$) could induce cell cycle delay as shown by significant increase in the number of metaphase cells in the first cell cycle but neither in the second nor the third cell cycle. Only at concentrations of 25, 50, and $100{\mu}g/ml$ were SCE levels significantly increased above that of the control (p<0.05). EEPIR at a concentration of $500{\mu}g/ml$ induced cell death as few mitotic cells were shown. Accordingly, EEPIR ($25-100{\mu}g/ml$) is genotoxic in human lymphocytes and cytotoxic at concentrations of ${\geq}500{\mu}g/ml$ in vitro. Therefore, these activities of the EEPIR could serve its potential therapeutic effects, especially as an anticancer agent. Further study of EEPIR in vivo is now needed to support this in vitro evidence.
Towards a Definition of Referential Integrity Constraints for XML

In relational data model, two important referential integrity constraints are inclusion dependency(ID) and foreign key(FK). In last decade, with the growing use of XML as data representation and exchange format over the web, the issue of integrity constraints in XML has received great importance to the database community. In this paper, we propose XML Inclusion Dependency(XID) and XML foreign key(XFK). When proposing, we show how both XID and XFK can be defined over the Document Type Definition(DTD) and are satisfied by the XML documents. We introduce a novel concept tuple that produces semantically correct values in the XML documents when satisfactions are checked. We also show that XFK is defined with the combination of XID and XML Key.
