      • 益植物의 生育에 미치는 土盆內의 Polyethylene film 遮斷效果에 關한 硏究

        Polyethylene film inserted between compost and pot-wall to reduce evaporative waterloss. Petunia planted in two Conditions of clay pot were watered at one to four days intervals to compare their effect on the growth of potted plant. Plant growth was reduced in the clay pot when watering interval and delayed, while forced in the polyethylene film inserted clay pot. All plant characters investigated in the polyethylene film inserted clay pot were more favorable than clay pot. Therefore, reduction of watering-cost can be expected by utilization of polyethylene film inserted clay pot likewise non-porous pot.

      • 연탄재의 園藝的利用에 관한 硏究 : 花卉植物의 繁殖用土로서의 利用效果 Utility Value as Rooting media for Ornamental plant

        This study was conducted to evaluate the value of briquet ash as a component of rooting media for ornamental plant. Twelve rooting media were made in mixture at different proportion by volume and alone using sand, vermiculite and briquet ash as a component of soil mixture. PH value and water holding capacity of these 12 media were determined. In order to investigate the effect of rooting media on rooting response of cuttings in Chrysanthemum morifolium, C. frutescens, Mesembryanthemum spectabile and Lobelia erinus, cuttings of these 4 species were inserted in 12 media. The important conclutions of this study are summarized as follows; 1. pH value of briquet ash was higher than that of sand or vermiculite. pH value of briquet ash was reduced after using for rooting medium, but that of sand or vermiculite were not reduced. 2. Period of water holding of briquet ash was longer than that of sand. Therefore, it was obious that utilization of briquet ash as rooting medium might save the effort for water supply. 3. Number of root of cutting rooted in briquet ash was more than that is sand in C. morifolium, but was less in L. erinus. There were no significiant difference between briquet ash and sand in C. frutescens and M. spectabile. 4. Length or root were longer in sand than briquet ash in L. erinus and M. spectabile, but there were no significant difference between briquet ash and sand in C. morifolium and C. frutescens. 5. Briquet ash are effective rooting medium for many species of ornamental plant, but better result may be obtained when it used in mixture with other rooting media.

      • 揷木用土로서의 연탄재 利用에 關한 硏究 : 第1報 Moss phlox(Phlox subulata L.)揷穗의 發根에 미치는 揷木用土의 影響 Ⅰ. Influence of Various Rooting Media on the Rooting of Stemcuttings in Moss Phlox(Phlox subulata L.)

        The purpose of this study was to evaluate the value of briquet ash as a component of rooting media in moss phlox (Phlox, subulata L). Various rooting media were made in mixture at the different ratio and alone using sand, vermiculite, and briquet ash as components of soil mixture. Rooting ratio, number of root, and root length were examined to evaluate the various rooting media. The important conclusions of this study are summarized as follows; 1. Rooting ratio was the higest in the mixture of 75% briquet ash and 25% sand. The rooting media with briquet ash in mixture or alone gave higher rooting ratio than those with sand or vermiculite alone. 2. The average number of root per rooted cuttings was the higest in the mixture of 75% briquet ash and 25% vermiculite. The rooting media with briquet ash in mixture or alone gave higher number of root that those with sand or vermiculite alone. 3. In the root length, the rooting media with briquet ash in mixture or alone showed better result than those with sand. 4. It was recognized that a further investigation for the possible availability of the briquet ash as acomponent of rooting media to produce a healthy vegetatively propagated plant.

      • 揷木用土로서의 연탄재 利用에 關한 硏究(第3報) : 용토의 pH 및 용수량과 삽수의 발근과의 관계 III.Correlation between pH value and water holding capacity of media and rooting response of herbaceous cutting

        This study was conducted to evaluate the value of briquet ash as a componet of rooting media. In order to investigate the effect of rooting media on rooting response of cuttings in Chrysanthemum morifolium and Phlox subulata, twelve rooting media were made in mixture at different proportion by volume of sand, vermiculite and briquet ash as components of rooting medium. pH value and water holding capacity of media were determined and rooting response of cuttings were calculated. The important conclutions of this study are summarized as follows; 1. The water holding capacity of briquet ash was quardruple of sand. 2. The rooting response of cuttings was better in the medium of briquet ash alone and the media contained briquet ash as component of media than other menufactured media. 3. There were significant positive correlation between rooting ratio of cuttings and number of root, length of root per rooted cuttings. 4. It is considerable that root development of moss pink is prosperous in alkaline media. 5. The cuttings rooted in sand alone produced unbranched, coarse and brittle root, but cuttings rooted in briquet ash produced well branched, slender and more flexible root. 6. The better result may be obtain in briquet ash mixed with other material than briquet ash alone.

      • 花盆의 水分蒸發이 盆植花卉類의 生育에 미치는 影響

        This study was carried out to obtain the informations about evaporation from pot, soil temperature and soil atmosphere composition in pot, and the effect on the growth of nine ornamental species using seven different containers. The investigated containers were clay pot(CP), clay pot painted in green(CP-P), varnished clay pot (CP-V), polyethylene film inserting in clay pot(CP-PI), clay pot mulched with black polyethylene film (CP-PM), porcelain pot (POP), and plastic pot (PLP). Nine ornamental species were balsam (Impatiens balsamina) chrysanthemum (Chrysanthemum morifolium), cosmos (Cosmos bipinatus), English ivy (Hedera helix), geranium (Pelargonium zonale) kochia(Kochia scoparia var. trichophila), marigold(Tagetes patula), ornamental kale (Brassica oleraceae var. acephala), and salvia (Salvia splendens). The results obtained are summarized as follows: 1. Dry weight of all tested species grown in PLP, POP, CP-P, CP-V and CP-PI was heavier than that of CP. 2. Plant height in nine tested species grown in PLP, POP, CP-P, CP-V, and CP-PI was taller than that of CP. 3. Geranium grown in PLP, POP, CP-P, CP-V gave more number of leaf than that of CP. 4. The number of flower in balsam grown in PLP, POP, CP-P, CP-V, and CP-PI was more than that of CP. The result from marigold was very similar to this tendency. Spike length and floret number in salvia gave the same tendency, but its spike number was not different among containers used. 5. The average diurnal evaporation from PLP and POP was about 43% of that of CP. About two third of total evaporation from CP was through pot wall. 6. The evaporation rate from the slowest to the highest was PLP, POP, CP-P, CP-V, CP-PI, CP-PM and CP. Containers inhibiting evaporation through pot wall hold more soil moisture than CP from one day after water supply. 7. The more evaporative water-loss from containers gave the lower soil temperature. The variation of soil temperature among containers was higher during the day than the night. 8. The O_2 concentration of soil atmosphere in CP was higher than that of nonporous containers, and the difference between them was 0.40-1.12%. The range of the O_2 concentration was 17.95∼19.62%. The CO_2 concentration of soil atmosphere in CP was lower than that of nonporous containers, and its range was 0.59-1.76%. This deviation in soil atmosphere composition did not influenced on the growth of plants. 9. There was a possitive correlation between the amount of soil water and the plant growth. 10. Plant grown on CP gave more total nitrogen content in top growth than that of PLP. C/N ratio was somewhat low in plant on CP. From the above results, O_2 and CO_2 concentration in soil atmosphere did not gave enough deviation to the extent which affect the plant growth. The effect of soil moisture on the plant growth using different containers was the farmost significant factor from this investigation. Therefore, it was obious that the utilization of the nonporous container might save the cost for water supply and reduce the production cost of the pot-grown ornamental plant in Korea eventually.

      • 切花部位가 Easter lily의 切花壽命 및 球根肥大에 미치는 影響

        This study was conducted to determine the effect of cutting position on the bulb-production and vase-life of cut-flower in Easter lily. Cut-flower was cut at the position of 7, 14 and 21cm above ground level, and their vase-life and quality were observed at room temperature. Bulbs were weighed to know the influence of the remainder of stem and leaves after cut on the growth of bulbs. The important conclusions of this study are summarized as follows: 1) The longer remainder of stem length after cut, the heavier bulb produced but here was no significant difference in number of bulbs. 2) When the remained leaves after cut were more than 20 and the ratio of remainder to the total leaves were more than 40 percent, bulbs were heavier than those at planting time. 3) There was a significant correlation between the ratio of remainder after cut to the total leaves and weight of bulb. 4) The vase-life of cut-flower were not significantly different among the cutting positions. 5) When cut-flower were cut at same cutting position, the longer stem length, he more number of floret produced. Consequantly, the vase-life of cut-flower was prolonged. 6) The size of flower bud at cutting date did not influence the vase-life of floret, but the size of flower at blooming date was influenced.

      • 揷木用土로서의 연탄재 利用에 關한 硏究(第2報) : Chrysanthemum morifolium의 揷穗의 發根에 미치는 揷木用土 및 粒子크기의 影響 Influence of Briquet Ash on the Rooting of Stemcuttings in Chrysanthemum morifolium

        The purpose of this study was to evaluate the value of briquet ash as a component of rooting media in Chrysanthemum morifolium. Various rooting media were made in mixture at different ratio and alone using sand, vermiculite and briquet ash as components of soil mixture. In order to investigate the effect of the particle size of briquet ash on rooting of stemcuttings, various particle sizes were used as rooting media. Rooting ratio, number of root and root length were examined to evaluate the effect of the various rooting media and the particle sizes of briquet ash. The important conclusions of this study are summerized as follows; 1. Briquet ash was better rooting medium than sand, but it showed more effective result when it was used in mixture with other rooting media. 2. The particle size of briquet ash as a rooting medium to produce a healthy vegetatively propagated plant showed the best result at 2-3mm.

      • 정상인에서 베타3-아드레날린 수용체 유전자의 변이가 복부 비만도 및 지질대사에 미치는 영향

        The β₃-adrenergic receptor is expressed in visceral adipose tissue in humans and is thought to contribute to the regulation of the resting metabolic rate and lipolysis. We studied the influence of a mutation in the β₃ -adrenergic receptor gene(Trp64Arg) on body fat distribution, central obesity, lipid metabolism in 65 healthy young male adults. One out of 65 subjects were homozygous (Arg/Arg) for the trp64Arg mutation, 17 subjects were heterozygous (Trp/Arg), and 47 lacked the mutation(Trp/Trp). The body weight, height, body mass index, waist-to-hip ratio were similar between the subjects with- and without the mutation. Total body fat, abdominal fat amount, body fat distribution, serum total- and HDL-cholesterol, triglyceride, glucose, and insulin concentrations were also not different according to the presence or absence of the mutation. These results suggested that Trp64Arg mutation in β₃-adrenergic receptor gene is not a major contributing factor for central obesity or change in lipid metabolism in Korean young adults.

      • 만성신부전증 환자에서 Recombinant Human Erythropoietin 치료에 따른 혈액지표와 Hemoglobin A1c에 대한 연구

        Hemoglobin A1c is produced by a progressive, non-enzymatic reaction between glucose and hemoglobin within the erythrocytes. The HbA1c concentration is dependent on the plasma glucose level and the stage of development of the erythrocytes. Immature erythrocytes contain lower levels of glycosylated hemoglobin than mature erythrocytes. HbA1c level was decreased in short RBC life span. Therefore, HbA1c level is not only measure for assessment of moderate to long term glycemic status in diabetics, but also as a possible diagnostic parameter of anemia. The aim of this study was to evaluate the HbA1c level in patients with chronic renal failure with anemia. HbA1c concentration, iron, ferritin, TIBC and hematologic parameters were measured before treatment and 1, 2 months after administration of recombinant human erythropoietin. The HbA1c concentration was measured by high performance liquid chromatography with cation exchange column (Pharmacia). The results were as follows; 1. The mean of hemoglobin was 8.66 g/dL in the controls and 7.84 g/dL in the patients with chronic renal failure. The mean of hematocrit was 25.19 % in the controls and 23.14 % in the patients with chronic renal failure. The mean of MCV was 93.23 fL in the controls and 92.73 fL in the patients with chronic renal failure. The mean of MCH was 32.56 pg in the controls and 31.76 pg in the patients with chronic renal failure. The mean of HbA1c was 3.15 % in the controls and 2.95 % in the patients with chronic renal failure. 2. Hematologic parameters in the patients with chronic renal failure 1) The results of hemoglobins were 7.84 g/dL, 8.11 g/dL, 8.92 g/dL, the MCH were 31.76 pg, 32.87 pg, 33.20 pg, the results of MCV were 92.73 fL, 97.37 fL, 92.85 fL at before treatment and 1, 2 months after administration of r-HuEpo. 2) The results of hematocrits were 23.14 %, 23.73 %, 26.73 % at before treatment and 1, 2 months after administration of r-HuEpo. 3. Iron metabolism parameters in the patients with chronic renal failure 1) The results of iron test were 180.92 ㎍/dL, 137.79 ㎍/dL, 126.83 ㎍/dL at before treatment and 1, 2 months after administration of r-HuEpo. 2) The results of ferritin test were 1500.2 ng/ml, 1311.6 ng/ml, 1151.0 ng/ml at before treatment and 1, 2 months after administration of r-HuEpo. 3) The results of TIBC test were 282.17 ㎍/dL, 282.45 ㎍/dL, 278.83 ㎍/dL at before treatment and 1, 2 months after administration of r-HuEpo. 4. The results of HbA1c test were 2.95 %, 3.08 %, 3.18 % at before treatment and 1, 2 months after administration of r-HuEpo. It is suggested that, in patients with chronic renal failure, evaluation of HbA1c in diabetics who have anemia with chronic renal failure should be consider possible hematologic parameters, and HbA1c level would be one of the marker of anemia status, but further studies are needed.
