장기운영을 통한 친환경 수처리 기술의 하천수 수질개선 효율 평가

Eco-friendly water treatment technology is emerging as a countermeasure to improve the quality of river water and source water. Among various eco-friendly water treatment technologies such as subsurface flow (SSF) and surface flow (SF) wetlands, vertical flow constructed wetland (VFCW) which is one of the SSF wetland is being used in the Netherlands as post-treatment for decentralized sewage treatment plants due to greater cold tolerance than general SF wetlands. In addition, SSF wetlands are less affected by seasonal water temperature fluctuations than SF wetlands, so they have the advantage of providing stable water treatment. In this study, an eco-friendly water treatment test-bed was installed for evaluation of applicability on river water (Yeongsan river water) at near Seung-chon weir and was operated for more than one year. A VFCW with 0.4 m/d showed excellent treatment efficiency of 83.8% turbidity 83.8%, SS 95.6%, BOD 93.6%, and T-P 73.7% and showed low treatment efficiency of 33.8% TOC and 31.0% T-N. At 1m/day, the treatment efficiency was similar to 0.4m/day. However, in the case of 2m/day or more, the treatment efficiency tended to decrease somewhat as the filtration speed increased. In the seasonal evaluation, there was little change in treatment efficiency by season in most of the water quality items except for T-N. As a result of organic material characterization, the proportion of non-degradable organic matter in both accounted for most of 74.4~81.4%, resulting in a low treatment efficiency of about 5.7%.

This study is purposed to research the present status and outcomes of adaption of science teacher system in elementary school. The subjects of this study are science teachers, schoolmasters, science supervisors, and 3rd-6th grade students in western office of board of education, Gwangju Metropolitan city. It was found that there are 264 teachers who teach one subject and only two of them were science teachers. In elementary schools, most classroom teachers didn`t want to be science teachers and schoolmasters or science supervisors could not afford to adapt science teacher system. After applying science teacher system to 3--6th grade students during one school year, many students were improved in academic achievement and inquiring ability, and they have increased of interest and participation in science activities. This means that science class by science teacher is more effective than that by classroom teacher. Therefore, science teacher system should enlarge to science class in elementary school.

<P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>Kahweol is a coffee-specific diterpene found in the beans of <I>Coffea arabica</I> and has been reported to demonstrate various biological activities, including anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, and apoptotic properties. In the present study, we examined the molecular mechanism of kahweol in human epidermal growth factor receptor-2 (HER2)-overexpressing breast cancer cells. Kahweol preferentially inhibited cell proliferation and induced cell death through the induction of a caspase 3-dependent pathway in HER2-overexpression breast cancer cell lines. Kahweol treatment substantially reduced the levels of HER2 protein, mRNA, and transcriptional activity in SKBR3 cells. Kahweol exerts its potent anticancer efficacy by the upregulation of polyomavirus enhancer activator 3 (PEA3) and downregulation of activator protein 2 (AP-2) to inhibit aberrantly activated HER2 signaling. Fatty acid synthase (FASN) expression and sterol regulatory element-binding protein-1c (SREBP-1c) activity were downregulated by kahweol. In addition, kahweol lowered the levels of phosphorylated Akt and its downstream targets mammalian target of rapamycin (mTOR) and cyclin D1. Furthermore, we found that blocking Akt signaling through kahweol treatment significantly reduced FASN expression and subsequently suppressed cell proliferation in HER2-overexpressing cancer cells. 하천수 수질개선 및 양질의 상수 원수를 얻기 위해 친환경적인 수처리 기술을 도입하였다. 크게 3가지 모듈(여과형습지, 수직/수평여과습지, 인공함양지)로 구성된 실규모의 가늠터를 구축하여 1년간의 장기운영을 하였으며, 친환경수처리 기술을 통한 미량오염물질(의약류, 농약류 및 과불화합물 등) 처리효율 평가를 실시하였다. 그 결과, 의약류(카페인, 이오프로아이드 등)가 농약류(헥사코나졸, 카펜 다짐 등) 보다 제거효율이 높게 나타났으며, 전반적으로 인공함양지의 미량오염물질 제거능이 우수함을 확인하였다.
