        Lithographically-featured photonic microparticles of colloidal assemblies

        <P>We have described a new and promising strategy for the fabrication of composite and porous photonic crystal microparticles that combines the self-assembly of colloidal particles with photolithography techniques. We fabricated silica/SU-8 composite microparticles with photonic bandgaps <I>via</I> four steps: (1) deposition of the silica colloidal crystals on the photoresist, (2) embedding of the colloidal crystals in the photoresist, (3) UV exposure through a photomask and subsequent development, and (4) release of the microparticles from the substrate. Embedding was performed above the glass transition temperature (<I>T</I><SUB>g</SUB>) of uncrosslinked SU-8. At such temperatures, capillary forces on the silica particles facilitate the migration of colloidal crystals in the SU-8 matrix. Particle migration ceased when the top colloidal crystal layer was trapped at the interface between air and SU-8. In addition, we also prepared porous microparticles with an inverse opaline structure by dissolving the embedded silica particles from the composite structures. The porous microparticles showed enhanced reflectivity at the bandgap position due to the large refractive index contrast. The bandgap position of the microparticles was controlled by the size of the silica particles, which determined the lattice constant. Bilayered composite and porous microparticles with two distinct photonic bandgaps were also prepared by sequential deposition of colloidal crystals composed of two differently sized silica particles.</P> <P>Graphic Abstract</P><P>A new and promising fabrication strategy of photonic crystal microparticles was demonstrated by combining colloidal self-assembly with photolithography. <IMG SRC='http://pubs.rsc.org/services/images/RSCpubs.ePlatform.Service.FreeContent.ImageService.svc/ImageService/image/GA?id=c0cp00134a'> </P>

        Abstract: As known in clinical trial like DCCT, UKPDS, tight glycemic control is essential to prevent complications from diabetes mellitus(DM). In type 2 diabetes taking multiple medication, nonadherence to medications is common problem. The aim of our study is to investigate adher-ence rate of patients with type 2 DM and to evaluate association between many factors including adherence rate and HbA_(1C). 441 patients with type 2 DM who visited Busan National University Hospital endocrine internal department from Aug 13 to Sep 2, 2008(3weeks) were enrolled. We conducted a man-to-man questionnaire survey about general knowledge about diabetes mellitus, medicine and adherence, and measured HbA_(1C). Among them, 305 patients taking oral hypo-glycemic agent(OHA) were analyzed to investigate correlation between adherence rate and glycemic control. We studied 305 patients(male 126, female 179, average age 61.2±9.8 years, DM duration 8.6±6.4 years, average adherence 88.8±16.2%, average HbA_(1C) 7.03± 1.18%). HbA_(1C) showed significant relation with DM duration(r=0.137, p=0.017), number of aHA in regimen (r=0.135, p=0.018), dosage frequency(r=0.132, p=0.026), Medication Refill Adherence(MRA)(r=-0.124, p=0.030) and adherence(r=-0.168, p=0.003). Adherence had significant relation with MRA(r=0.148, p=0.010) but didn't have statical corelationship with DM duration, number of aHA and dosage frequency. Patients that their adherence rate exceed 90% took fewer OHA(p=0.011) and went on a better dietary treatment(p=0.007). In patients controlling diabetes mellitus with aHA, when adherence rate and MRA was higher, HbA_(1C) was lower. As a result, to improve adher-ence rate, it is necessary to enhance patient education, do careful consideration about prescrip-tion medicine number and dosage frequency

      • 濟州島 沿岸에 있어서 갈치채낚이 漁船의 水中騷音

        濟州道 北東海域인 33 40 N, 126 49 E를 中心으로 5海里 이내의 갈치 채낚이 漁場에서 5隻의 小型漁船에 대한 水中騷音을 測定 分析한 結果는 다음과 같다. 1. 漁船의 모든 機關을 停止하였을 때 測定海域의 操業水深 30m와 50m에서의 水中騷音의 音壓潗位는 周波數 200㎐에서 각각 46.4㏈, 43.6㏈, 500㎐에서 각각 39.7㏈, 37.1㏈이었다. 2. 發電機만을 稼動하여 集魚된 後의 操業水深 30m와 50m에서의 水中騷音의 音壓潗位는 周波數 200㎐때에 C漁船에서 각각 71.3㏈, 72.3㏈, D漁船에서 각각 75.1㏈, 78.2㏈, 周波數 500㎐때에 C漁船에서 각각 63.5㏈, 64.2㏈, D漁船에서 각각 62.5㏈, 65.5㏈이었다. 3. 漁船의 發電機만을 稼動하여 集魚된 後 操業중인 때의 갈치魚群이 集魚된 水深 50m의 音壓潗位가 水深 30m의 것보다 01.㏈ 3.1㏈가 높았는데 이는 魚群探知機에 集魚된 魚群의 映像과 比較하여 본 結果 集魚된 魚群이 있었던 것으로 推定된다.

        The purpose of this study was to analyzed what effect Taekwondo training has upon Juvenile trainees in Korea, America, and Spain. to see if there is a significant difference in their Human nature Education. The subject of this study was set up as 547 Juvenile trainees who are including 183 Koreans, 185 Americans and 179 Spanish people belonging to gymnasia in their own countries, and sampling by purpose sampling. The means in this study is used to amend and complemented after confirming suitability of the contents in the questionnaire that is made on the basis of questionnaire Lee Chul Ho(1996). it is used as study means after modified, whether the substance of question is right in fitness and applicability or not, Reliability of the question, the range of Cronbach's a is showed from .7924 to .8450. The method of statistically analysis adapted one-way ANOVA, two-way ANOVA by using SPSS WIN 10.0 Program. The result of this study are as followed : First, it can be seen that American Juvenile and Spanish Juvenile show more significant change than Korean Juvenile in their Human nature Education by the Taekwondo training according to their nationality. Second, it can be seen that Juvenile who have had the Taekwondo training for more than from three to five year show more significant change in their emotion, sociability and attitude towards life than those who have had the same training for more than other period in their Human nature Education according to their Taekwondo training period. Third, as a result of analytic investigation of what effect the same training has upon the change factors in their Human nature Education in accordance with their training period and nationality, it can be seen that the training itself and nationality has the greater influence on them than the training period. Therefore, judging from the above findings, it can be proved that the Taekwondo training has much more significant and positive effect on Juvenile in their change of emotion, sociability and attitude towards life.

      • The Induction of Somatic Embryos from Petals-derived Callus in Rosa hybrida cv ‘Ice Wing’

        Previously, we reported the induction of somatic embryogenic callus (SEC) derived from in vitro roots in rose (Rosa hybrida), which is one of the major flowers over the world. In this study, we induced SEC derived from petals in rose. The petals of 3 cultivars (‘Ice Wing’, ‘Orange Eye’ and ‘Pink Beauty’) with different flower colors which are blooming in the glass greenhouse of the National Institute of Horticultural and Herbal Science were sterilized. And then, 30 petal explants of about 0.5 to 1 cm in size were placed on petri-dish filled with MS, SH and WPM medium supplemented with 11 mg·L<SUP>-1</SUP> 2,4-D and 3% sucrose and solidified with 2.4 g·L<SUP>-1</SUP> phytagel, and then cultured in the dark at 25°C ± 1°C for 47 days. As a result, it was identified that calluses were formed at explants of all three cultivars. In addition, ‘Ice Wing’ and SH basal medium showed the highest rate in callus formation on more than 90% of cut surfaces of explants area. Moreover, the color of the induced callus did not affect by cultivar (flower color) or basal salts, which was ivory, brown, and gray. We only separated the callus formed on the cut surface of the petals, and transferred to SH basal medium supplemented with or without 3 mg·L<SUP>-1</SUP> 2,4-D, 3% sucrose, 300 mg·L<SUP>-1</SUP> L-proline, 2.4 g·L<SUP>-1</SUP> phytagel. After 5 weeks cultured in the dark at 25°C ± 1°C, it was identified that somatic embryos were generated from ‘Ice Wing’ petal-derived callus induced on WPM medium as basal medium. The somatic embryogenic calluses have been proliferated every four weeks of the subculture interval, and they will be used as a material for transformation research to develop high value-added rose varieties, and cosmetic industry.

        Single Nucleotide Polymorphism in the Promoter Region of H1 Histone Family Member N, Testis-specific (H1FNT) and Its Association Study with Male Infertility

        The H1 histone family, member N, testis-specific (H1FNT) is exclusively expressed in the testis, and had its possible role for sperm chromatin formation. The purpose of this study is to investigate any genetic association of H1FNT gene with male infertility, especially at the promoter region. We examined the promoter single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNP) of H1FNT gene which is located within transcription factor binding site for its association with male infertility. The statistical analysis showed that the -1129A>T polymorphism was present at a statistically significance in male infertility (p=0.0059 and 0.0349 for hetero and risk type, respectively). The dual-luciferase promoter assay was performed to examine the polymorphic effect of this promoter SNP by the cloning of promoter region (1700bp fragment) into pGL3-basic vector. In our plasmid based reporter system, there is no big difference between wild and risk type. In conclusion, H1FNT -1129A>T promoter SNP is statistically significant with male infertility, especially with subfertile (non-azoospermia) group. Further analysis of its functional polymorphic effect in vivo may provide the biological significance of testis-specific histone with spermatogenesis.

        Elemol from Chamaecyparis obtusa ameliorates 2,4-dinitrochlorobenzene-induced atopic dermatitis

        <P>Chamaecyparis obtusa has been traditionally used as an antibiotic agent and in cosmetics for the prevention of microorganism infection and skin troubles. Atopic dermatitis (AD) is a chronic inflammatory skin disease that encompasses immunologic responses, susceptibility factors and compromised skin-barrier function. Use of plant medicines in therapeutic treatment of AD has recently been suggested as an alternative therapeutic option. The present study examined the effect of elemol, an active component of Chamaecyparis obtusa, on AD using in vivo and in vitro models. RBL-2H3 cells were stimulated with concanavalin A and dinitrophenyl human serum albumin, and atopic dermatitis was induced in BALB/c mice by topical application of 2,4-dinitrochlorobenzene (DNCB) prior to elemol treatment. The mRNA expression was evaluated by reverse transcription quantitative polymerase chain reaction, and the levels of β-hexosaminidase and serum immunoglobulin E (IgE) were examined by ELISA. Histological changes were also performed by microscopy. Elemol attenuated the onset of AD-like skin lesions, reduced serum IgE levels and decreased mast cell infiltration into the dermis and hypodermis. In addition, elemol downregulated the transcriptional expression of several pro-inflammatory cytokines, including TNF-α, IL-1β, IL-6 and IκBα, in the skin of the DNCB-induced animal models of AD. In the RBL-2H3 mast cell line, elemol significantly inhibited the mRNA expression of IL-4 and IL-13, and further attenuated the release of β-hexosaminidase from mast cells. Histological examination revealed that elemol significantly ameliorated the DNCB-induced dermal destruction in mice. The results of the present study suggested that elemol may have therapeutic potential in the treatment of AD due to its immunosuppressive effects.</P>
