This paper presents a finite-set model predictive strategy for current control of a resistive-inductive-active load with a three-phase three-level flying capacitor converter. A heuristic method is used to reduce the calculation effort and to increase the prediction horizon. A disturbance observer determines the active part of the load. A hysteresis-based voltage balancing algorithm makes use of the redundancy of the 64 switching possibilities of the converter. The proposed method significantly reduces the calculation effort compared to classical finite-set model predictive control methods.
Optimal Switching Time Calculation in Predictive Torque Control

This paper presents an approach to include a variable switching time into basic Predictive Torque Control methods. Using a constant switching frequency, every second switching time is shifted aiming at the minimization of the torque ripple. The optimal switching time is derived analytically from the torque error function. The result is a simple equation which can easily be included in the prediction algorithm. The proposed method is compared with other approaches in simulation and experiment showing that it yields a significant reduction of torque ripple and mean torque error.

<P>In the experiments for dark-matter QCD-axion searches, very weak microwave signals from a low-temperature High-Q resonant cavity should be detected using the highest sensitivity. The best commercial low-noise cryogenic semiconductor amplifiers based on high electron mobility transistors have a lowest noise temperature above 1.0 K, even if they are cooled well below 1 K. Superconducting quantum interference devices can work as microwave amplifiers with temperature noise close to the standard quantum limit. Previous SQUID-based RF amplifiers designed for axion search experiments have a microstrip resonant input coil and are thus called micro strip SQUID amplifiers or MSAs. Due to the resonant input coupling they usually have narrow bandwidth. In this paper we report on a SQUID-based wideband microwave amplifier fabricated using sub-micron size Josephson junctions with very low capacitance. A single amplifier can be used in a frequency range of approximately 1-5 GHz.</P>

<P>We prove the existence of ballistic transport for the Schrodinger operator with limit-periodic or quasi-periodic potential in dimension two. This is done under certain regularity assumptions on the potential which have been used in prior work to establish the existence of an absolutely continuous component and other spectral properties. The latter include detailed information on the structure of generalized eigenvalues and eigenfunctions. These allow one to establish the crucial ballistic lower bound through integration by parts on an appropriate extension of a Cantor set in momentum space, as well as through stationary phase arguments.</P>
