PAR K Formula Can Replace “Guide to Medical Certificate” Published by Korean Medical Association in Deciding the Treatment Duration

        ( Chan Yong Park ),( Kwang Hee Yeo ),( Sora Ahn ) 대한외상학회 2018 大韓外傷學會誌 Vol.31 No.2

Purpose: Many doctors have difficulty in deciding the treatment duration in trauma patients to write in the casualty medical certificate. We tried to find a solution for this problem by using abbreviated injury scale (AIS). Methods: A total of 39 patients treated in our regional trauma center who requested an author to write treatment duration on casualty medical certificate from January 2014 to April 2017 were included. And the treatment duration was decided based on the PARK Formula (AIS). PARK Formula (AIS)=(AIS×2) ~ ([AIS×2]+2) Results: Among 39 patients included and 36 (92.3%) had treatment duration on casualty medical certificate within the range of treatment duration calculated by PARK Formula (AIS). Compared to the PARK Formula (AIS), the mean value was 0.13 week (0.90 day) smaller. Comparing the treatment duration between Korean Medical Association (KMA) guideline and PARK Formula (AIS), only 22 patients (56.4%) showed agreement. The mean value was 1.02 week (7.18 days) smaller in KMA guideline. Conclusions: For the decision of the treatment duration in trauma patients, utilizing worldwide used AIS scoring system is very efficient. Using PARK Formula (AIS), doctors can document the treatment duration in the casualty medical certificate with ease. KMA should provide more practical ‘treatment duration of each diagnosis in writing casualty medial certificate’ for the doctors. We recommend PARK Formula (AIS) as a good alternative for KMA guide.

      • Two New Genera, Caveana gen. nov. and Triviola gen. nov., and Two New Torodora Species from Thailand (Lepidoptera, Lecithoceridae)

        Kyu-Tek Park,Sora Kim 한국응용곤충학회 2009 한국응용곤충학회 학술대회논문집 Vol.2009 No.05

Park (2001) described a new species of Tisis Walker, which was the first lecithocerid recognized from Thailand. Subsequently, several taxonomic papers on the family in Thailand have been published, in which more than 50 new taxa were described (Park, 2002a-b; 2003a-c; 2004; 2005a-b; 2006a-b). For the genus Torodora Meyrick, Park (2002a, 2007) described 18 new species from Thailand. Recent study of the lecithocerid moths collected in Thailand during 1980 revealed two species with venation that does not match that of any of the known genera of the family. The two species look more or less similar each other in the forewing coloration, but the shape of the wings and their venation are quite different. Generally, for the genus-level taxonomy in the family Lecithoceridae, the wing venation has been treated as most important character distinguished genera, and many genera of the family, more than 40% of the known genera, were established as monotypic by early workers (Meyrick, 1925; Gozmäny, 1978), based on their different venations. Although the wing venation is an important character to define the generic status of the family, the combination of venations with the other morphological characters including genital character should be considered. For these reasons, many small genera of the family are needed to be revised with a result in comparison of more characters other than wing venation. In this study, two new genera, Caveana gen. nov. and Triviola gen. nov., belonging to the subfamily Torodorinae, based on Caveana diemseoki sp. nov. and Triviola puiensis sp. nov. are described. At the same time, two new Torodora species, T. karismata sp. nov. and T. youwon sp. nov., are also described from Thailand. Images of adults and genitalia are given. Specimens examined are based on the collection of the Osaka Prefecture University, collected in Thailand by Japanese specialists during 1980

      • Six New Species of the Genus Promalactis Meyrick (Lepidoptera, Oecophoridae) from Vietnam

        Sora Kim,Kyu-Tek Park,Bong-Kyu Byun,Seunghwan Lee 한국응용곤충학회 2010 한국응용곤충학회 학술대회논문집 Vol.2010 No.05

The genus Promalctis Meyrick, 1908 is the largest genus of the family Oecophoridae, with more than 150 described species in the world (Wang et al., 2009; Du et al., 2009). The genus is mainly distributed in the Palaearctic and Oriental regions, probably with the highest diversity in the South and East Asia. However it has been very poorly studied to date, with only with only 4 publications which were based on very limited collecting. In total, 76 were reported from China, which is more than half of the known species in the Palaearctic region(Wang, 2006; Du et al., 2009), 14 species known from Korea (Park & Park, 1998), 12 species from Japan (Fujusawa, 2002), 8 species from Russian Far East (Lvovsky, 1976, 1985, 1986), and 3 species from Nepal (Lvovsky, 2000a). In the Oriental region, since Meyrick (1908a, 1908b) described 14 species from India and Myanmar, Lvovsky (2000a, 2000b) described 25 additional species from the southern Asia, including the southern part of China, Malaysia, Indonesia, and the Philippines. In Vietnam, only 4 species, Promalactis albiapicalis Lvovsky 1997, P. buonluoi Lvovsky 1997, P. fansipanella Lvovsky 2007, and P. suzukiella (Matsumura 1931), have been described to date(Lvovsky, 1997, 2007a). The aim of this study is to describe six new species of Promalactis based on material mainly collected in the northern part of Vietnam. Adults, head parts, wing venations, and the male or female genitalia of the new species are illustrated.

        Designing rigid carbon foams

        Park, Sora,Kittimanapun, Kritsada,Ahn, Jeung Sun,Kwon, Young-Kyun,Tomá,nek, David IOP Pub 2010 Journal of Physics, Condensed Matter Vol.22 No.33

We use ab initio density functional calculations to study the stability, elastic properties and electronic structure of sp2 carbon minimal surfaces with negative Gaussian curvature, called schwarzites. We focus on two systems with cubic unit cells containing 152 and 200 carbon atoms, which are metallic and very rigid. The porous schwarzite structure allows for efficient and reversible doping by electron donors and acceptors, making it a promising candidate for the next generation of alkali ion batteries. We identify schwarzite structures that act as arrays of interconnected spin quantum dots or become magnetic when doped. We introduce two interpenetrating schwarzite structures that may find their use as the ultimate super-capacitor.

      • A Fully Closed Nano-Focus X-Ray Source With Carbon Nanotube Field Emitters

        Park, Sora,Kang, Jun-Tae,Jeong, Jin-Woo,Kim, Jae-Woo,Yun, Ki Nam,Jeon, Hyojin,Go, Eunsol,Lee, Jeong-Woong,Ahn, Yujung,Yeon, Ji-Hwan,Kim, Sunghee,Song, Yoon-Ho IEEE 2018 IEEE electron device letters Vol.39 No.12

We developed a fully closed nano-focus X-ray source using carbon nanotube (CNT) field emitters. The nano-focus X-ray source includes a fully vacuum-sealed CNT Electron-gun (E-gun) tube and E-beam-focusing modules consisting of electrostatic and magnetic lenses, facilitating very compact and high-resolution X-ray imaging. The paste-printed CNT emitters were prepared in a small pattern as an electron source, and the entire components, including the CNT emitter module, Cu tubes, collimators, and transmissive anode target, were specially brazed at an elevated temperature, resulting in a very compact E-gun tube. The CNT emitter showed a stable and reliable emission current with its density of over 300 mA/cm2 even in the vacuum-sealed E-gun tube. With the anode grounded and the CNT emitter module biased to negative high voltages, we achieved a considerably magnified x-ray image of a several hundred nanometer resolution. The fully vacuum-sealed CNT E-gun tube along with the magnetic lens module can offer much more compact, easily maintainable, high-resolution X-ray imaging compared with conventional open-type thermionic X-ray sources.

Synthesis and evaluation of new pyridyl/pyrazinyl thiourea derivatives: Neuroprotection against amyloid-β-induced toxicity

        Park, Jung-eun,Elkamhawy, Ahmed,Hassan, Ahmed H.E.,Pae, Ae Nim,Lee, Jiyoun,Paik, Sora,Park, Beoung-Geon,Roh, Eun Joo Elsevier 2017 European journal of medicinal chemistry Vol.141 No.-

Abstract

Herein, we report synthesis and evaluation of new twenty six small molecules against β amyloid (Aβ)-induced opening of mitochondrial permeability transition pore (mPTP) using JC-1 assay which measures the change of mitochondrial membrane potential (ΔΨm). The neuroprotective effect of seventeen compounds against Aβ-induced mPTP opening was superior to that of the standard Cyclosporin A (CsA). Fifteen derivatives eliciting increased green to red fluorescence percentage less than 40.0% were evaluated for their impact on ATP production, cell viability and neuroprotection against Aβ-induced neuronal cell death. Among evaluated compounds, derivatives 9w, 9r and 9k had safe profile regarding ATP production and cell viability. In addition, they exhibited significant neuroprotection (69.3, 51.8 and 48.2% respectively). Molecular modeling study using CDocker algorithm predicted plausible binding modes explaining the elicited mPTP blocking activity. Hence, this study suggests compounds 9w, 9r and 9k as leads for further development of novel therapy to Alzheimer's disease.

Highlights

Biological activity of seventeen compounds against Aβ-induced mPTP opening was superior to that of Cyclosporin A.

Derivatives 9w, 9r, and 9k had safe profile regarding ATP production and cell viability.

Molecular modeling study predicted plausible binding modes explaining the elicited mPTP blocking activity.

This study suggests compounds 9w, 9r, and 9k as leads for further development of novel therapy to Alzheimer's disease.

Graphical abstract

[DISPLAY OMISSION]
