The objective of the study was to evaluate the antibacterial activity of onion shells, which are discarded as industrial wastes, against fish pathogenic bacteria using various extractants such as water, ethanol, ethyl acetate and butanol. Water onion extracts did not show any antibacterial activity in the tested bacteria but butanol onion extracts showed antibacterial activity against Bacillus subtilis and Escherichia coli BE 1186. Ethyl acetate and ethanol onion extracts showed antibacterial activity for all the test bacteria. Ethanol, an edible stuff, was possible to use as an extractant of onion shells in industrial process to make marketed products. We further studied the effects of heat and PH on the antibacterial activity of ethanol onion extract against fish pathogenic bacteria. Heating did not change the antibacterial activity of the ethanol extract. However, ethanol extract showed a decreasing antibacterial activity toward alkaline (pH 11). These results indicate that the ethanol onion extracts is suitable for use as supplementary antibacterials.

To investigate the pharmacokinetic difference between the two amoxicillin (AMX) particles in rabbits after intramuscular injection (i.m.), both of AMX-S (particle size: 10 ㎍) and AMX-L (particle size: 100 ㎍) were injected into New Zealand White rabbits (1.2±0.3 ㎏) at a dose rate of 10 ㎎/㎏ of body weight. In this study, serum AMX concentrations were detected by microbiological assay with E. coli BE 1186 which shows high antibiotic sensitivity. After i.m. administration, AMX-S and AMX-L were best fitted as 1-compartment model with the absorption and elimination phase. The biological half-life (T_1/2, _k10) of AMX-S is 4.06±1.09 h and that of AMX-L 4.76±0.69 h. The serum maximal concentration time (T_max) of AMX-S and AMX-L were 0.88±0.17 h and 0.77±0.11 h, respectively. Maximal AMX concentration (C_max) (AMX-S: 5.71±0.62 ㎍/㎖, AMX-L: 5.04±0.25 ㎍/㎖) in serum showed a significant difference (p<0.05). In terms of bioequivalance, however, there was no difference between the two AMX's after i.m. injection in the basis of C_max and AUC.

니트는 현대 의복에 널리 활용되고 있는 소재이다. 니트는 신축성, 유연성, 드레이프성을 가지고 있어 인체의 활동시에 편안한 움직임을 유지시켜 줄 수 있다. 본 연구 컴퓨터 소프트웨어 Texpro 프로그램을 활용하여 이미지화 시킨 니트를 장애인 의복으로 제시하였으며, 디자인은 편안함을 요구하는 장애인복을 고려하여 니트를 주된 소재로 이용하였고, 형태 안정성을 필요로 하거나 마모가 심한 부분은 가죽이나 진을 이용하여 기능성을 증가시켰다. 본 연구는 장애인 의복에 대한 기능적 측면과 심미적인 측면을 모두 고려한 디자인을 전개함으로써 그들의 장애를 보다 적게 인식시키고 적극적인 사회의 참여에 도움이 되고자 한다. Neat is a material that is widespread used for the modern clothes. Neat has its own elastic, flexibility, and draft so that it keeps comfortable feeling when the human`s body moves. This research concerns the characteristics of neat using Texpro computer software program and suggests a imaged neat as clothes for the handicapped. The design was used for the handicapped people`s clothes, which requires comfort and neat was used as a main material. The function has been improved by using either jean or leather for the necessity of stability of shape or for the seriously worn out parts. This research unfolds the design considering both functional and aesthetic aspect for the handicapped people`s clothes and it can be helpful for the handicapped and they think less disability to participate in the social activities.

The silk fabrics was treated with silicone resin and catalyst to improve a water repellency. Whiteness index as well as water repellency were used to evaluate the finishing effectiveness in advance, and the suitable curing conditions were determined. Twenty cycles of dry cleaning were executed to evaluate the durability of silicone resin. The water repellency of the finished silk after dry cleaning was excellent and the drapeness of the finished silk was similar to the untreated silk except the high concentration treatment. The air permeability of the finished silk was remarkably decreased with the resin concentration and the number of dry cleaning. The decrease of the tensile strength of the finished silk was less than 15%.

Mainly bromine and phosphoric compounds were used to improve the flame retardancy of textiles. Polyester(PET) fabrics were treated by corona discharge equipment with the small amount of flame retardant to enhance flame retardancy. The surface properties of corona discharged PET fabrics were investigated using ESCA(Electron spectroscopy for Chemical Analysis), SEM(Scanning Electron Microscopy), TGA(Thermogravimetric Analysis), and water penetration time. When corona discharged to PET fabrics, the frame retardant agents were evenly distributed. As a results, the oxygen-containing functional groups were produced, and the Limiting Oxygen Index(LOI) were increased. TGA results indicated that the flame retardancy was operative by the gas phase mechanism. Key words : Corona discharge, PET, Flame retardant
