콜롬비아 소가모스 지역에서 미세먼지 감축 시나리오를 TAPM 모델을 활용하여 도출하고 평가하였다. 시나리오 1의 제철소 및 금속 등 중공업 오염원을 대상으로 미세먼지 방지 기술을 이용하여 배출량을 80% 감축하는 방안에서는 도시 중심 평균 농도는 6.5 μg m-3로 1.5 % 감소하였고, 모델영역에서 최고 평균농도는 387 μg m-3 로 변동 없었다. 시나리오 2의 벽돌 및 석회공장 등을 대상으로 연료를 석탄에서 코크스로 교체하여 90 % 감축하는 방안에서는 도시 중심 평균 농도는 4.5 μg m-3로 31.8%, 모델영역에서 최고 평균농도는 111 μg m-3 로 71.6 % 감소하였다. 시나리오 1과 시나리오 2를 결합한 시나리오 3에서는 도시 중심에서 평균 농도는 4.3 μg m-3로 34.8 %, 모델영역에서 최고 평균농도는 110 μg m-3 로 71.7 % 감소하였다. 소가모스 지역에서 대기환경을 개선하는 로드맵 수립에는 수공업에서 주로 사용되는 석탄 연료를 청정연료인 코크스로 교체하는 방안이 최우선으로 고려되어야 하겠다. 이후 미세먼지 방지 시설을 굴뚝에 설치하는 방안도 차선책으로 고려하여 환경과 경제가 선 순환하는 녹색성장관점에서 장기적인 미세먼지 개선 마스터 플랜이 수립되어야 하겠다. Reduction scenarios for PM10 concentration in Sogamoso, Colombia were analyzed using the TAPM( The Air Pollution Model). The average concentration of PM10 in the downtown area was 6.5 μg m-3, a reduction of 1.5 %. The maximum average concentration in the model domain was 387 μg m-3 without any reduction in scenarios 1 which the PM10 emissions from heavy industries such as iron and metal was reduced by 80 % using the prevention technology. In scenario 2 which the PM10 emissions from the brick and lime industries was reduced by 90 % substituting coke (a cleaner fuel) for coal, the average concentration of PM10 in the downtown area was 4.5 μg m-3, a reduction of 31.8 % , the maximum average concentration in the model domain was 111 μg m-3 , a reduction of 71.6 %. In scenario 3 which the scenarios 1 and 2 were combined, the average concentration of PM10 in the downtown area was 4.3 μg m-3, a reduction of 34.8 % and the maximum average concentration was 110 μg m-3, a reduction of 71.7 %. To put forward a road map for the reduction of PM10 in the Sogamos region, substituting coke for coal in manual industries should have priority over reduction policies. Also, it is highly recommended that a longterm master plan for reducing PM10 concentrations should be established with a focus on environmentally-friendly development and future green growth policy with a win-win relationship between economy and environment.

BACKGROUND: Chemical fungicides not only may pollute the ecosystem but also can be environmentally hazardous, as the chemicals accumulate in soil. Biological control is a frequently-used environment-friendly alternative to chemical pesticides in phytopathogen management. However, the use of microbial products as fungicides has limitations. This study isolated and characterized a three-antifungal-enzyme (chitinase, cellulase, and ${\beta}$-1,3-glucanase)-producing bacterium, and examined the conditions required to optimize the production of the antifungal enzymes. METHOD AND RESULTS: The antifungal enzymes chitinase, cellulase, and ${\beta}$-1,3-glucanase were produced by bacteria isolated from an sawmill in Korea. Based on the 16S ribosomal DNA sequence analysis, the bacterial strain AM50 was identical to Streptomyces sp. And their antifungal activity was optimized when Streptomyces sp. AM50 was grown aerobically in a medium composed of 0.4% chitin, 0.4% starch, 0.2% ammonium sulfate, 0.11% $Na_2HPO_4$, 0.07% $KH_2PO_4$, 0.0001% $MgSO_4$, and 0.0001% $MnSO_4$ at $30^{\circ}C$. A culture broth of Streptomyces sp. AM50 showed antifungal activity towards the hyphae of plant pathogenic fungi, including hyphae swelling and lysis in P. capsici, factors that may contribute to its suppression of plant pathogenic fungi. CONCLUSION(S): This study demonstrated the multiantifungal enzyme production by Streptomyces sp. AM50 for the biological control of major plant pathogens. Further studies will investigate the synergistic effect, to the growth regulations by biogenic amines and antifungal enzyme gene promoter.

<P><B>Abstract</B></P><P>Transcriptional factor nuclear factor‐kappaB (NF‐κB) plays a crucial role in human breast cancer cell invasion and metastasis. The carboxyl terminus of Hsc70‐interacting protein (CHIP) is a U‐box‐type ubiquitin ligase that induces ubiquitination and proteasomal degradation of its substrate proteins. In this study, we investigated the role of CHIP in the NF‐κB pathway in the invasion of MDA‐MB‐231 cells, a highly aggressive breast cancer cell line. We showed that overexpression of CHIP significantly inhibits the invasion of the MDA‐MB‐231 cells. The overexpression of CHIP suppressed expression of urokinase plasminogen activator (uPA) and matrix metalloproteinase‐9 (MMP‐9) in MDA‐MB‐231 cells. Moreover, CHIP strongly inhibited the nuclear localization and the transcriptional activity of NF‐κB. The activation of the IkappaB kinase complex (IKK) was also blocked by CHIP overexpression. Importantly, CHIP overexpression resulted in a significant decrease in the level of TNF receptor‐associated factor 2 (TRAF2), an upstream key player in the NF‐κB pathway. However, the level of TRAF2 was restored after treatment with a proteasome inhibitor, MG‐132. Moreover, CHIP overexpression promoted the ubiquitination of TRAF2. We also found cell invasion significantly decreased in cells transfected with TRAF2 small interfering RNA (siRNA). In contrast, when CHIP expression was suppressed by siRNA in poorly invasive MCF‐7 cells, cell invasion significantly increased in conjunction with enhanced NF‐κB activation and TRAF2 levels. <P>This study explored the combined effect of number and pattern of mutations in the X/precore regions of the hepatitis B virus (HBV) genome, mutational complex genotype (MCG), on hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) development. Sequence variations were determined by direct sequencing and multiplex restriction fragment mass polymorphism analysis in 150 age‐, sex‐ and hepatitis B e antigen (HBeAg) status‐matched patients with and without HCC. In addition, a longitudinal study and an external validation of MCG were conducted. All were HBV subgenotype C2. Eight high‐frequency mutations (G1613A, C1653T, T1753V, A1762T, G1764A, A1846T, G1896A and G1899A) were significantly associated with HCC. Whereas C1653T, T1753V, G1764A and A1846T were independent mutational factors for HCC, the significance of these individual mutations was negligible when analyzed with all clinico‐virological variables. The total number of mutations was the only independent viral factor for HCC, irrespective of HBeAg status. There was a significant dose–risk relationship between the number of mutations and HCC, in which high risks for HCC were associated with mutation numbers ≥6. Pattern analysis of the mutations revealed disparity in distribution among the top seven high‐risk mutation combination patterns, which accounted for 40 and 2.7% of HCC and non‐HCC cases, respectively. The predictive accuracy of the high‐risk mutations for HCC was similar to that of α‐fetoprotein. Longitudinal and external validation studies also supported the association of mutation number with HCC development. MCG in the HBV X/precore regions is a risk indicator for HCC, and might serve as a new guide to the HCC screening scheme for chronic HBV carriers. (<I>Cancer Sci</I> 2012; 103: 296–304)</P>
Identification of Orfamide A as an Insecticidal Metabolite Produced by Pseudomonas protegens F6

<P>The use of biosurfactants for agricultural crop protection has been gaining interest because they are generally biodegradable and environmentally friendly. In the present study, we identified an insecticidal biosurfactant produced by Pseudomonas protegens F6 (F6) and examined its use for aphid control. The growth of F6 was accompanied by increased aphid mortality and decreased water surface tension. Bioassay-guided chromatography coupled with instrumental analyses, nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR), and time-of-flight mass spectrometer (TOF MS) identified orfamide A as a major metabolite that showed insecticidal activity against green peach aphid (Myzus persicae). Orfamide A revealed a dose-dependent mortality against aphids, producing a LC<SUB>50</SUB> value at 34.5 μg/mL, and caused a considerable decrease in the surface tension value of water, giving about 35.7 mN/m at 10 μg/mL. Laboratory and greenhouse mortality bioassays suggested that orfamide A may be applicable to control aphids in organic agriculture.
