Cosmetics Material Research of FRO Extract

Purpose: In this study, skin and lotion containing 10% FRO were prepared to compare the skin improvement effects. Research design, data and methodology: After using cosmetics containing FRO ingredients, analysis was performed for 6 weeks. Results: As a result of measuring the moisture and elasticity of the pores, significant results were obtained only in the pores when used for 2 weeks between the experimental group and the control group (p<.001). Also after 4 weeks of use, moisture (p<.05) showed significant results, and after 6 weeks of use, moisture (p<.01) and elasticity (p<.001) showed significant.
Placental microRNAs as potential biomarkers for noninvasive detection of trisomy 21

목적: The discovery of fetal nucleic acids in the plasma of pregnant women has led to the development of noninvasive prenatal testing (NIPT). The objective of this study was to discover a panel of placental miRNAs as potential novel biomarkers for NIPT of fetal T21 and to predict the biological functions of new biomarkers using bioinformatics tools. 방법: Using microarray-based genome-wide expression profiling, we compared the expression levels of miRNAs in whole blood samples from non-pregnant women, whole blood samples from pregnant women, and fetal placenta samples from pregnant women with euploid or T21 fetuses. We analyzed the differentially expressed miRNAs according to the presence or absence of disease and tissue type (p value <0.05 and two-fold expression change). Potential target genes of miRNAs were predicted using the miRBase program. To predict their functions, the functional annotation tools provided by the WebGestalt database were used. 결과: We identified 299 miRNAs which reasonably separate the whole blood from the placenta. Among the identified miRNAs, 150 miRNAs were up-regulated in the placenta, and 149 miRNAs were down-regulated. Most of the up-regulated miRNAs in the placenta were members of the mir-498, mir-379, and mir-127 clusters as placenta specific miRNA located on hsa19 and hsa14. Among the up-regulated miRNAs in the placenta, mir-1973 and mir-3196 were expressed at higher levels in the T21 placenta than in the euploid placenta. The two miRNAs potentially regulate 203 target genes that are involved in developmentof brain, central nervous system, and nervous system. Interestingly, the genes are significantly associated with T21-related disorder such as congenital abnormalities, mental disorders, and nervous system diseases. 결론: Our study indicates placenta-specific miRNAs that may be potential biomarkers for NIPT of fetal T21 and provides new insights into the molecular mechanisms of T21 via regulation of miRNAs.
Role of Phenolic Compounds in Root Induction of Virus-free Apple Rootstocks and Scions

The objective of the current study was to identify and quantify endogenous phenolic compounds in easy-to-root M.9 and M.26 rootstocks and difficult-to-root cultivars ‘Hongro’ (HR) and ‘Fuji’ (FJ) (scions) of apple (Malus domestica Borkh.) during in vitro rooting of shoots for 40 days in culture. Phloretic acid, coumaric acid, salicylic acid, chlorogenic acid, catechin hydrate, hesperetin, rutin, quercetin, and biochanin were the major endogenous phenolic compounds detected in the apple shoots by high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC). Among the various phenolic compounds, chlorogenic acid was most abundant in shoots, favoring the induction and growth of adventitious roots from in vitro shoots. In contrast, salicylic acid was another phenolic acid that was reduced during the culture of shoots in the easy-to-root rootstocks (M.9 and M.26). However, salicylic acid levels remained constant or increased throughout the culture in the difficult-to-root cultivars (HR and FJ). This study indicates the role of endogenous phenolic compounds on the rooting of shoots and lays the foundation for further studies investigating the mechanism of rooting in these apple rootstocks and cultivars.

목적: To evaluate the positive effects of teratogenic risk counseling in pregnant women inadvertently exposed to medication in early pregnancy. 방법: In a prospective cohort study, 250 pregnant women exposed to medications in early pregnancy were recruited after teratogenic risk counseling at Korean MotherSafe Counsling Center, which has given information about teratogenic risk of medication to pregnant women. Positive effects are evaluated by visual analogue scale(VAS) for perception on teratogenic risk and percent prefering termination of pregnancy after medication exposures in pregnancy. 결과: Mean age of participants is 31.8±5.3years old. Mean gravidity is 2.4±2.1. Medications exposed in early pregnancy include antibiotics, analgesics, anti-inflammatory drugs, antacid and so on. Mean perceptive teratogen risk before and after the counseling is 33.9±1.6% and 15.8±1.6%, respectively. And mean percent prefering termination of pregnancy (≥5) before and after the counseling is 31.1±1.9% and 13.5±1.7%, respectively. 결론: Our data suggest that information on teratogenic risk for pregnant women inadvertently exposed to medication may have positive effects for reassuring pregnant women and preventing termination of pregnancy.
Primary Hepatosplenic Tuberculosis in an Immunocompetent Adult and Domestic Literature Review

Hepatic or splenic involvement of tuberculosis without other disseminated lesions is a very uncommon form of extrapulmonary tuberculosis, especially in an immunocompetent adult. We report a case of a 25 year-old-man who developed primary hepatosplenic tuberculosis not associated with the lung or other distant organs. He was initially diagnosed with esophageal candidiasis in local clinic. A computed tomographic scan of the abdomen showed hepatosplenomegaly and multiple microabscesses in the spleen. Our initial diagnosis, based on the clinical feature and radiologic findings, was hepatosplenic candidiasis. However, histopathology of the liver specimens revealed chronic granuloma with central caseous necrosis, strongly suggestive of tuberculosis. Although rare, splenic tuberculosis should be considered in the differential diagnosis of splenic abscess, especially in countries where tuberculosis is endemic.
Anti-osteoporotic Effects of Sericin-Calcium Conjugate in Ovariectomized Rats

This study was conducted in order to evaluate the effect of sericin-calcium (SC) as therapy for ovariectomy-induced osteoporosis in rats. Three weeks after ovariectomy (OVX), Sprague-Dawley rats were divided randomly into three groups: sham-operated group (Sham), ovariectomized group, and SC-treatment group (OVX+SC). Rats in the OVX+SC group were given drinking water containing 0.07% SC for eight weeks. Bone breaking force, mineralization, and blood parameters related to bone metabolism were analyzed. In OVX animals, blood concentration of 17β-estradiol showed a significant decrease, while osteocalcin and type I collagen C-terminal telopeptides (CTx) showed an increase. Breaking force of femurs as well as bone mineral density (BMD), ash, calcium, and phosphorus in femurs showed a significant decrease following OVX. Treatment with SC (0.07% in drinking water) resulted not only in remarkable restoration of the decreased 17β-estradiol and increased osteocalcin and CTx concentrations, but also led to recovery of decreased femoral breaking force, BMD, ash, calcium, and phosphorus. It is suggested that SC effectively improves bone density by preventing bone turnover-mediated osteocalcin, CTx, and minerals, and that it could be a potential candidate for use in therapy or prevention of post-menopausal osteoporosis.
