PGE₁is an endogenous substance of potent vasodialator as well as inhibitor of platelet aggregation. It has been used therapeutically in peripheral arterial occlusive disease and impotence. Intracavernous injection of PGE₁ for erectile dysfunction has been established for several years as a treatment option for erectile dysfunction of diverse etiologies, but this mode of administration is limited by penile discomfort, pain at the injection site, inconvenience and noncompliance. As the matter of worse, the β-hydroxy moiety of PGE₁is extremely susceptile to dehydration in solution to give inactive PGA₁ and PGB₁. For the improvement of stability, rapid absorption at action site and the convenience of application, PGE₁was formulated as urethral suppositories of three types of formulations, such as PEG, witepsol, and the mixture of PEG and witepsol. The stability test of PGE₁and the release test in urinary suppositories were performed. Futhermore, the effect fo enhancers and vehicle composition on the penetration of PGE₁through excised rat skin was evaluated by permeability coefficient and enhancement ratio.
5-Fluorouracil과 그 유도체를 함유하는 Solid Lipid Nanoparticles 제조와 평가

Solid lipid nanoparticles(SLNs) are particulate systems for parenteral drug administration and have good biocompatibility and stability. SLNs were prepared with lauric acid, as the lipid core. Tween 20 and tween 80 were used as surfactant. 5-fluorouracil and 1-benzoyl-5-fluorouracil were used as model drugs. Drug-loaded SLNs were prepared by the hot homogenization technique in order to evaluate the physical stability, entrapment efficiency of drugs as well as release profile. The particle size of SLNs was 40~600 nm. By increasing speed, the mean particle size of SLfs was decreased. And entrapment efficiency in the case of using 1-Benzoyl-5-fluorouracil was higher than using 5-Fluorouracil. The higher surfactant concentration, the faster release rate at the range of 1.5~2.5%.

This paper presents the fabrication and test of a micro cell exciter actuated by an electromagnetic force for the study on the chondrogenic differentiation of rabbit mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs). The micro cell exciter is designed to apply compressive loading to the alginate gel mixed with the MSCs. The magnetic cell exciter consists of an actuator component and a cartridge-type chamber component. An actuator is composed of a permanent magnet, a core and a coil. The chamber has seven PMMA wells and a cell culture Petri dish. Two types of alginate gels were stimulated by the cell exciters for 10 minutes every 12 hours for 7 days. In order to determine the expression of these matrix components during differentiation, RT-PCR analysis was performed. Collagen type II was expressed in the MSCs subjected to the compressive stimulation.

저자들은 기면과 수유량 감소를 주소로 입원한 4개월 남자 환아에서 ATP7A 유전자 돌연변이로 확진된, 영아 연축을 동반한 멘케스병 1례를 경험하였기에 문헌 고찰과 함께 보고하는 바이다. Menkes disease, so called kinky-hair syndrome, is a rare, genetic and progressive neurodegenerative disorder. It is caused by a mutation in the ATP7A gene, which codes for the copper transporting ATPase in the cell organelles. The dysfunction of many copper-dependent enzymes results in low concentration of copper in some tissues and accumulation of copper in others. We report a boy presented with kinky hairs, developmental delay, hypotonia and connective tissue abnormalities at the age of 4 months. Despite the treatment with various antiepileptic drugs, atonic seizures still persisted. At the age of 7 months, his atonic seizures was changed into extensor spasms with modified hypsarrhythmia for some years. The seizure were controlled by topiramate and vigabatrin. At the age of 22 months, serum copper and ceruloplasmin rechecked as 17 ug/dL(80-150 ug/dL) and 7.3 mg/dL(20-46 mg/dL) respectively. The gene study showed ATP7A mutation and the patient was diagnosed as Menkes disease so that copper-histidine was daily injected. We experienced a case of a 4-month-old boy with Menkes disease and infantile spasm, confirmed by ATP7A mutation.

This study is a study on the production of nail design works using Pixar animation characters and aims to provide help in the development of design that can incorporate popular materials into nail art. Considering the characteristics of the character, the work selected polycy and various art techniques and produced a total of five nail design works using various member materials that can be expressed in nail art tips. Through this study, we could see that Pixar animation characters could provide various motifs for the idea of nail design, and that the possibility of creating popular materials with nail art designs could be confirmed. In addition, we could see that Pixar animation characters are sufficiently valuable as a formative art by converging with nail art and can be combined with nail art. The materials and techniques of nail art used in the work presented various directions in color, texture, and form in expressing Pixar animation characters, and we hope that the advanced research of nail art will proceed by providing an opportunity to expand the area of nail design and applying it as a new nail art design based on various characters.
안정형 협심증과 급성 관상동맥 증후군 환자에서 경동맥의 재형성

Background: Acute adaptive vascular remodeling occurs in active and unstable inflammatory plaques. It has been suggested that the adaptive coronary vascular remodeling, in patients with acute coronary syndrome (ACS), may be systemic and may show similar vascular remodeling in the carotid arteries. We investigated the ultrasonographic features of the common carotid artery (CCA) to determine whether the arterial expansive remodeling found in the coronary artery occurs in the carotid arteries of patients with ACS. Methods: We measured lumen diameter (LD), interadventitial diameter (IAD) and intima media thickness (IMT) using a B-mode ultrasound in both common carotid arteries in patients with ACS (N=74) and chronic stable angina (CSA) (N=31). Positive remodeling was arbitrarily defined as an IMTmax>1 mm and IAD>8 mm and negative remodeling as an IMTmax>1 mm and IAD<7 mm. Other values were defined as no remodeling. Results: There were no significant differences in LD IAD and maximal IMT of the right CCA and the left CCA in comparisons between the ACS and the CSA patient groups. There were no differences for number of cases with no remodeling or differences in positive and negative remodeling in the right common carotid artery and left common carotid artery in comparisons between the ACS and CSA patient groups. . Presence of plaque in both common carotid arteries showed similar frequency in the ACS and CSA patient groups. The characteristics of carotid artery plaques were not different in the two groups. The remodeling index (IAD/LD) was correlated with IMTmax (right CCA r=0.797, p<0.001; left CCA r=0.860, p<0.001). Conclusions: The common carotid arterial structure of ACS patients was not different from that of CSA patients. Therefore, these results suggest that the expansive arterial remodeling, due to coronary inflammatory plaques, appears to take place locally rather than systemically.(Korean J Med 71:266-275, 2006)
The Current Practice of Skin Testing for Antibiotics in Korean Hospitals

Background/Aims: Antibiotic skin testing is a useful procedure for identifying patients with IgE-mediated hypersensitivity to antibiotics. The procedures, however, have not been standardized, and the testing is performed with diverse protocols in Korean hospitals wards. Thus, we examined the current practice of antibiotic skin testing in Korea. Methods: We sent questionnaires to 12 allergists working in secondary or tertiary referral hospitals and collected them by e-mail or fax. The questionnaire included items such as the types and concentrations of the tested antibiotics, the methods of antibiotic skin testing, and the interpretation of the results. Results: All hospitals responded to the questionnaire. The antibiotic skin testing protocols were variable, inconsistent, and differed with regard to the type and concentrations of antibiotics, the volume injected, and the interpretation of the results. Moreover, the protocols differed from the commonly recommended procedures in the medical literature. Conclusions: Standardized guidelines for antibiotic skin testing are needed for the safe and effective use of antibiotics in Korea. (Korean J Intern Med 2010;25:207-212)
