<P>Sequence–function relationship in a protein is commonly determined by the three-dimensional protein structure followed by various biochemical experiments. However, with the explosive increase in the number of genome sequences, facilitated by recent advances in sequencing technology, the gap between protein sequences available and three-dimensional structures is rapidly widening. A recently developed method termed deep mutational scanning explores the functional phenotype of thousands of mutants via massive sequencing. Coupled with a highly efficient screening system, this approach assesses the phenotypic changes made by the substitution of each amino acid sequence that constitutes a protein. Such an informational resource provides the functional role of each amino acid sequence, thereby providing sufficient rationale for selecting target residues for protein engineering. Here, we discuss the current applications of deep mutational scanning and consider experimental design.</P>
eBPF와 AdaBoost를 사용한 컨테이너 공격의 정확한 탐지 기법

이 논문은 컨테이너 기반의 시스템 보안 강화를 목표로, 커널을 수정하지 않고 시스템콜을 분석하여 경쟁 상태를 동적으로 감지하는 새로운 방법을 제시한다. 컨테이너 탈출 공격은 공격자가 컨테이너의 격리를 벗어나 다른 시스템에 접근할 수 있게 하는데, 이 중 경쟁 상태 기반의 공격은 병렬 컴퓨팅 환경에서 발생할 수 있는 보안 취약점을 이용한다. 이러한 공격을 효과적으로 감지하고 방어하기 위해, 본 연구에서는 eBPF를 활용하여 공격 시 발생하는 시스템콜 패턴을 관찰하고, AdaBoost 모델을 사용하여 공격 프로세스와 정상 프로세스를 구분하는 방법을 개발하였다. 이를 위해 Dirty COW, Dirty Cred와 같은 공격과 MongoDB, PostgreSQL, Redis와 같은 일반 컨테이너 사용 사례에서 발생하는 시스템콜을 분석하여 학습 데이터로 활용하였다. 실험 결과, 이 방법은 99.55%의 Precision, 99.68%의 Recall 그리고 99.62%의 F1-score를 달성했으며, 이로 인한 시스템 오버헤드는 약 8%로 나타났다. This paper proposes a novel approach to enhance the security of container-based systems by analyzing system calls to dynamically detect race conditions without modifying the kernel. Container escape attacks allow attackers to break out of a containers isolation and access other systems, utilizing vulnerabilities such as race conditions that can occur in parallel computing environments. To effectively detect and defend against such attacks, this study utilizes eBPF to observe system call patterns during attack attempts and employs a AdaBoost model to detect them. For this purpose, system calls invoked during the attacks such as Dirty COW and Dirty Cred from popular applications such as MongoDB, PostgreSQL, and Redis, were used as training data. The experimental results show that this method achieved a precision of 99.55%, a recall of 99.68%, and an F1-score of 99.62%, with the system overhead of 8%.
Caspase-2 primes cancer cells for TRAIL-mediated apoptosis by processing procaspase-8

<P>Although caspase-2 is believed to be involved in death receptor-mediated apoptosis, the exact function, mode of activation, and regulation of caspase-2 remain unknown. Here we show that protein kinase (PK) CK2 phosphorylates procaspase-2 directly at serine-157. When intracellular PKCK2 activity is low or downregulated by specific inhibitors, procaspase-2 is dephosphorylated, dimerized, and activated in a PIDDosome-independent manner. The activated caspase-2 then processes procaspase-8 monomers between the large and small subunits, thereby priming cancer cells for TNF-related apoptosis-inducing ligand (TRAIL)-mediated apoptosis. The processed procaspase-8 that is recruited to death-inducing signaling complex by TRAIL engagement becomes fully activated, and cancer cells undergo apoptosis. PKCK2 activity is low in TRAIL-sensitive cancer cell lines but high in TRAIL-resistant cancer cell lines. Thus, downregulating PKCK2 activity is required for TRAIL-mediated apoptosis to occur in TRAIL-resistant cancer cells. Our data provide novel insights into the regulation, mode of activation, and function of caspase-2 in TRAIL-mediated apoptosis.</P>

We demonstrate a novel class of flexible transparent conductor based on metal nanowire micro-bundled networks at random patterns. Original random patterns are prepared from controlled random cracking of high-stress silicon nitride on the silicon substrate, and employed as repetitively usable master molds with independently controllable pattern density and linewidth. Silver nanowires are subsequently placed in the random crack channels through a facile solution process and transferred to the polymer substrate with UV curable epoxy resin. The resultant flexible and transparent conductor, spanning over wafer scale at high reproducibility, not only exhibits enhanced mechanical robustness upon repeated bending or scratching, which often occurs when used as touch-screen panel, but also is free from the moire pattern problem due to the random nature of nanowire bundle patterns. Optical Line Patternator(OLP) has been applied to get a distribution of the spray at high ambient pressure. OLP is a combined technique of extinction measurement and image processing. The attenuated intensity of laser beam after traversing spray region was measured by using a photo-detector, and the line image of Mie-scattering was captured simultaneously in the path of each laser beam by using a CCD camera. The distribution of extinction coefficient in the spray is obtained by processing these data with the algebraic reconstruction technique. From the distribution of extinction coefficient, the surface distribution of spray can be reconstructed. OLP does not use laser sheet but use laser beam so that the noise effect of multiple scattering, caused by increasing number density of droplet in high pressure environment, is reduced drastically. OLP is expected as a suitable method which can investigate the characteristics of relatively large spray under the high pressure environment such as liquid rocket engine.

Domestic and foreign outdoor autonomous driving robots are being developed to be used for various purposes. Since outdoor autonomous driving requires different technologies from indoor autonomous driving, evaluation should be made based on appropriate evaluation methods. And some countries are demanding appropriate technical standards for outdoor autonomous robots to ensure proper performance when driving outdoors. In this paper, we intend to propose a technical criteria along with an appropriate autonomous driving evaluation methods for an outdoor autonomous driving robot that has not been developed in Korea.
