      • Neural Network Based Trajectory Tracking Control for Intelligent Pneumatic Servo Systems

        This paper proposes a neural network based trajectory tracking control scheme for intelligent pneumatic servo systems. The PID controllers are currently widely used in industrial applications because they are simple, cheap and show good performance. However, it is limited in some applications where the nonlinear effect is dominant. Pneumatic systems have inherent nonlinearities such as compressibility of air and nonlinear frictions present in cylinders. A neural network is combined with PID control to compensate for these nonlinearities. A trajectory tracking control experiment using the proposed control scheme has been performed and a significant reduction in tracking error is achieved.

        The settlement and developement of the Western dance was historically backgrounded by Japanese colonial policy which tried to obliterat social, political cultral traditions of Korea, where tradition and convention have strong meanings. The first introduction of Western dance(Russian folk dance) to Korea dates back to the year 1920). The diffusion and developement of the dance were initiated by both Seung-Hee, Choi who took part in the dance performence directed by Japanese Isibaku(石井摸), and Won-Tak, Jo who returned to Korea from Japan after his long dance study. They both founded the basis of spreading the dance to Korea, wasteland in the sense of the dance in thosedays. Kang, Jo who returned to Korea in 1951 and Seung-Nam, Im in 1953 injected vigor to the world of dance in Korea. Especially, the first performance of Im be-came motive force to the debut of a new face and provided a momentum for the dance's reaching the high level to compete with that of any other nation in ballet. In the developement of Korean ballet, close scrutiny of In's works will show us his influence and contribution to the dance world in the process of expansion in quality and in quantity, ad will show how prve the value of the art expressed ba physical actions. In this sense I used a biographical and implicative approach. We not only recognize In to be a pioneer and spiritual mainstay of' a Korean ballet but also confirm the greatness of his techniques displayed by the career and his great tai- ent as a choreographer. We can also see the glimpse of his devotions and efforts to the developement of Korean ballet when we consider that he, as the head of Nation Ballet Company for such a long time as 30 years, has fulfilled his mission of popularizing the study and practise for proper ballet·education and of training the dance to be more competent any advanced nations in ballet.

The Anti-cancer Effect of Oriental Medicine Chung-Ri-Ja-Gam-Tang in the Mouse with Metastatic Lung Cancer. Proceedings of International Symposium on East-West Medicine, Seoul. 231-243, 1999.-The oriental medicine Chung-Ri-Ja-Gam-Tang is an herbal medicine which has been used for pulmonary diseases and known as having immune stimulatory effects. It has been known effective in lung cancer. So we studied the effects and the mechanisms of this herbal medicine it the mouse with metastatic lung cancer. The metastatic lung cancer of the mouse was produced with melnoma cell line(B16BL/6).5×10□/mouse tumor cells were injected intravenously to the CDF1 mouse via tail vein. The mice were divided 4 groups. The first group was treated with 50mg/kg extract of Chung-Ri-Ja-Gam-Tang per oral for 10 days after cancer cell injection, second group treated with saline after cancer cell injection, the third group with medicine without cancer cell, and the last group with saline only. After 10 days treatments some of the mice were scarificed and the lung and spleen was removed. The survival duration, weight change, the number of metastatic cancer nodule of the lung, the NK cell activity, the capacity of cytokines(INF-γ,INF-α,IL-2) production and the proliferation activities of mouse lymphocytes were measured. The surival times of the group 1 mice were longer and the weight loss was less than the group 2 significantly. The number of the metastatic nodule of the lung were decresed in the group 1 than the group 2. The production of INF-γ,was increase in group 2 than group 3 and 4, IL-2 production was increased in group 1 than group 2,3,4 significantly. There was no difference in TNF- α production and proliferation activity of lymphocyte in each group. The NK cell activity was significantly increased in group 1 than group 2,3,4. We conclude that the Chung-Ri-Ja-Gam-Tang has the effect of increasing the NK cell activity of the CDF1 mouse with metastatic lung cancer(B16BL/6). And it is suggested that the increased production of the IL-2 is the mechanisms of enhanced NK cell activity.

      • Optimal Features for Classifying Giemsa-Stained Human Chromosomes with An Error-Backpropagation Neural Network

        Many studies for computer-based chromosome analysis using artificial neural network (ANN) have shown that it is possible to classify chromosomes into 24 subgroups. It is important to select optimum features for training the ANN. Our purpose was to select features that had the low classification error and the best ability for human chromosome classification. We applied the medial axis transformation for the medial line, extended the line to the boundary and obtained relative length, relative area and centromeric index. The Giemsa-stained human chromosome has a sequence of banding pattern that is perpendicular to the medial axis of the chromosome. Density profile is a one-dimensional graph of the banding pattern property of the chromosome computed at a sequence of points along the possibly curved chromosome medial axis. Some studied used relative length, centromeric index and 62 density profile as features, but we prepared two data sets as features that one set was relative length, centromeric index and 80 density profile considered No. 1 chromosome's length and the other was relative length, centromeric index, the 80 density profile and relative area and compared classification error of each set. We found that the classification error showed to be decreased by adding relative area to the other features.

        Simplified Effective Compressive Strengths of Columns with Intervening Floor Slabs

        The current design codes discuss the effective compressive strengths of columns, which reflect a decrease in load transfer performance that can occur when columns and slabs have different concrete compressive strengths. The effective compressive strength of a column increases as it is confined by the slab, and the design codes mandate three different effective compressive strengths for interior columns (confinement on four sides), exterior columns (confinement on three sides), and corner columns (confinement on two sides). For both corner and exterior columns, the confinement effect of the slab is significantly smaller than that for the interior column, and there is a more marked decrease in load transfer performance. However, there is still a lack of theoretical studies investigating the effective compressive strengths of the corner and exterior columns. Therefore, based on the analysis model established in previous research, this study has proposed an equation for calculating the effective compressive strengths of the corner, exterior and isolated columns without any confinement effects of the slab. In addition, axial loading tests of isolated columns were conducted and the proposed equation was verified.

        조선후기 서울 포전(布廛)이 남긴 기록의 조각들 -정승모 문서의 소개와 분류-

        Ten years ago, a set of documents and scraps of the hemp merchant guild (p``ojn) in Seoul was introduced by the late Dr. Chung, Seung-Mo, a historical folklorist. This study attempts to identify each document and scrap by classifying all the materials. Various aspects, including bibliographic items, were discussed. The documents and scraps are assumed to have been written between the late 18th and late 19th centuries. Empirical analysis in this study reveals that the entries of the p``ojon members who joined each joint venture were written in ``boustrophedon.`` Using this knowledge, it is possible to perform further research, including personnel setup. Documents and scraps related to the procurement and supply of hemp cloths enabled us to suggest the five paths of distribution, namely, (1) supply for the individual members of the p``ojon guilds, (2) procurement for bureaucrats`` clothing, (3) supply for retail shops, (4) procurement for government offices, and (5) supply for tribute merchants. Despite the limited information, a categorization candidate was proposed through inductive reasoning. This proposal can serve as a guideline for the classification of new documents or scraps in the future.

        Silicon alkoxides(TEOS:tetraethylorthosilicate and TMOS:tetramethylorthosilicate) were synthesized from silicon tetrachloride and ethanol or methanol with the variation of the mole ratio (alcohol/SiCl_4) and the water contents in the alcohol. The optimum mole ratios of alcohol/SiCl_4 were measured to be betweem 4 and 5 and the reactions completed within one hour. The yield of TEOS decreased from 70% to 48% as the water contents increased from 0.1% to 1.0% in ethanol.

      • 下水 슬러지중의 重金屬 細菌浸出

        This study has been carried out to remove metals and to improve dewatering efficiency in anaerobically digested sewage sludge using several conditions. The results from these experiments are as followings ; In continuous experiments, conditions of maximum metal solubilization were recycling rate of 20%, ferrous sulfate ammounts of 4.0g/l. The maximum metal solubilizations were observed since 48 hours. Solubilization rates of Zn, Mn were 98.3 %, 94.71 % respectively. Sulfuric acid dosage for metal solubilization are 1.26g in chemical method and 0.07g in bacterial leaching on a dry weight basis. Therefore sulfuric acid dosage was reduced about 18 times in bacterial leaching compared to that of chemical methods. In 660 mmHg, specific resistance coefficient of raw sludge was 4.91 × 10¹²cm/g. At acid treatment, specific resistance coefficient of sludge was 3.17 × 10¹²cm/g. At bacterial leaching, specific resistance coefficient of sludge was 1.94 × l0¹¹cm/g. Therefore dewatering abilities of sulfuric acid were increased about 2.7 times in bacterial leaching vs. chemical methods.
