Animal experiments are essential to the study of animal nutrition. Because of the large variations among individual animals and ethical and economic constraints, experimental designs and statistical analyses are particularly important in animal experiments. To increase the scientific validity of the results and maximize the knowledge gained from animal experiments, each experiment should be appropriately designed, and the observations need to be correctly analyzed and transparently reported. There are many experimental designs and statistical methods. This editorial does not aim to review and present particular experimental designs and statistical methods. Instead, we discuss some essential elements when designing an animal experiment and conducting statistical analyses in animal nutritional studies and provide guidelines for submitting a manuscript to the Asian-Australasian Journal of Animal Sciences for consideration for publication.

<P>We prepared a water-soluble conjugated polymer composed of electron-donating units and electron-accepting groups in the backbone. The polymer exhibits a short wavelength (blue) emission in aqueous solution and long wavelength (red) emission in the solid state, because of intermolecular energy transfer. Considering this, we develop a new approach for the sensitive detection of trypsin, which is known to control pancreatic exocrine function, using an ensemble system composed of the anionically charged conjugated polymer and cationically charged polypeptides (such as polylysine and polyarginine). The blue-emitting, water-soluble conjugated polymer becomes aggregated upon exposure to the polypeptides, leading to a red-emitting assay ensemble. The red-emitting assay ensemble becomes dissociated in the conjugated polymer and polypeptide fragments by selective degradation of trypsin, which then exhibits recovery of blue emission. This emission-tuning assay ensemble allows for detection of trypsin at nanomolar concentrations, which enables naked-eye detection. 사거리 등에 설치된 교통 카메라는 도로상에 이동하는 차량과 사람에 대한 모든 정보를 영상으로 포함하고 있으며, 도시의 도처에 설치된 카메라로부터 수집되는 다양한 정보들이 안전한 도시를 위해 중요한 교통정보 인프라의 역할을 하고 있다. 그러나 인력에 의해 모든 정보를 계속적으로 감시하는 한계가 있으며, 다양한 복합적 이상 상황을 파악하는 것은 불가능하였다. 최근 기술의 발전으로 교통 카메라 모니터링 시스템들이 딥러닝 기반의 영상 인식 기술들과 결합하기 위해 다양한 연구가 시도되고 있다. 이 논문은 딥러닝 기반의 교통 영상 분석과 시간 통계 분석 가시화 방안을 제안하고 있다. 교통 카메라에서 수집되는 영상을 딥러닝 기술을 이용하여 인식하고, 이 인식한 정보들을 시간상에서 통계적으로 가시화 함으로서 교통정보 관련 의사결정권자가 일반적인 딥러닝 인식 모니터링 시스템에서 파악할 수 없는 다양한 정보를 분석할 수 있다는 점에서 다른 시스템과 차별성이 있다.
Carbon monoxide poisoning-induced encephalopathy in a carbon dioxide arc welder: a case report

Background: It is widely known that carbon dioxide (CO₂) arc welding generates carbon monoxide (CO). However, to the best of our knowledge, no case reports have been published regarding CO poisoning in CO₂ arc welders. Therefore, we aimed to report a case of CO poisoning-induced encephalopathy in a CO₂ arc welder in the Republic of Korea to inform about the dangers of CO exposure among CO₂arc welders. Case presentation: A 40-year-old man working as a CO₂ arc welder for 15 years visited a local hospital with a tremor, involuntary urination, and speaking gibberish, on April 9, 2019. He stated that he had intermittent headache and forgetting symptoms for the last 5 years, and had been lost on the way to work several times. On April 9, 2019, he was diagnosed with CO poisoning-induced encephalopathy through brain magnetic resonance imaging. He received hyperbaric oxygen therapy, and some of his symptoms improved. According to the exposure assessment of his work environment, he was continuously exposed to high concentrations of CO for 15 years while operating CO₂ arc welding machines. Conclusions: After evaluating the patient’s work environment and evaluating his medical history, we concluded that his encephalopathy was caused by CO exposure during CO₂ arc welding. Thus CO₂ arc welders must be aware of the risk of CO poisoning and strive to avoid CO exposure.

현재 EMP(Electromagnetic Pulse) 방호시설의 차폐효과 성능 평가를 위해 적용하고 있는 규격들에서는 통상적으로 송신안테나를 시설 외부에 배치하고, 수신안테나를 시설 내부에 배치하여 차폐효과(Shielding Effectiveness: SE)를 측정하도록 규정하고 있다. 하지만 차폐효과 측정 시 방호시설과 외부 콘크리트 구조물 사이에 충분한 공간을 확보하지 못하는 경우, 차폐효과 측정이 불가능하게 된다. 본 논문에서는 송신안테나를 EMP 방호시설 내부에 배치하여 전자파의 차폐효과를 측정할 수 있는 시험방법을 찾기 위해 다양한 시험을 수행하였다. 차폐효과 측정 시 송수신 안테나의 위치에 따른 영향을 비교?분석하기 위해 송신안테나를 EMP 방호시설 내부에 배치하여 차폐효과를 측정한 결과, 외부에 배치했을 때보다 시험주파수 영역 10 kHz~1 GHz에서 전체적으로 평균 ±4 dB 수준의 차이가 발생하는 것으로 나타났다. EMP(Electromagnetic Pulse) protection facility was evaluated according to standard of shielding effectiveness. To comply with the standard, transmitting antenna was placed on outside of protection facility and receiving antenna was placed on inside of protection facility. However, measurement is impossible that place does not have enough space between protection facility and external concrete structure. In this paper, we performed a various of tests that put transmitting antenna inside the EMP protection facility in order to find out test method for measuring the shielding effectiveness of electromagnetic wave. Transmitting antenna was placed on inside of the EMP protection facility for measuring the shielding effectiveness to compare and analyze the impact of the position regarding to the transmitting and receiving antenna. As a result of test, in case that transmitting antenna was placed on inside of the EMP protection facility, it was found that test frequency range 10 kHz~1 GHz were occurred overall average difference of ±4 dB level.
