        Multi‑tissue lipotoxicity caused by high‑fat diet feeding is attenuated by the supplementation of Korean red ginseng in mice

        Background Excessive intake of fat, one of the causes of obesity, is associated with low-grade infammation in various susceptible organs and eventually causes tissue toxicity. This study examines the multifaceted suppressive efects of Korean red ginseng extract (KRG) on high-fat diet (HFD)-induced lipotoxicity and infammatory responses in the aorta, liver, and brain. Methods Male C57BL/6 mice were fed HFD with or without KRG for 12 weeks. The improvement efect in KRG on lipotoxicity and infammatory potential was determined in the blood and the aorta, liver, and brain tissues. Results KRG signifcantly inhibited 3-hydroxy-3-methylglutaryl coenzyme A (HMG-CoA) reductase activity by >20% in vitro. KRG supplementation suppressed HFD-associated body weight gain, lipid profle changes, and excessive fat deposition in the liver and increased leptin, insulin, and ALT levels in the blood. Infammatory markers in the aorta, liver, and brain were also signifcantly reduced by KRG treatment. In microvascular endothelial cells, the 15% cyclic stretch-mediated upregulation of ICAM-1 and vascular cell adhesion protein-1 (VCAM-1) expression was signifcantly attenuated in the presence of KRG. Conclusion KRG supplementation attenuates HFD-mediated body weight gain, lipid profle changes, and multi-tissue infammatory responses.

        Inhibitory Effect of Clavicepitaceae on Serotonin Release out of Human Platelets and Human Platelet Aggregation

        We have investigated the effects of hypha-water extracts (HWE), fruit body-water extracts (FWE) and cordycepin from Cordyceps militaris on serotonin release out of human platelets and human platelet aggregation. HWE and FWE inhibited the release of [^(3)H]-serotonin from human platelet stimulated by thrombin (2 U/ml) or collagen (20 ㎍/ml) in a dose-dependent manner. Furthermore, cordycepin, a major component of Cordyceps militaris, inhibited the human platelet aggregation induced by collagen (10 ㎍/ml) in a dose-dependent manner. These results suggest that cordycepin containing in HWE and FWE may inhibit the serotonin release by suppressing the collagen-induced human platelet aggregation. Accordingly, our data demonstrate that HWE and FWE containing much cordycepin might have antithrombotic and antimigrainous functions.

      • Ethylene 중합용 Pentamethylene Bridged Dinuclear Zirconocene 합성에 관한 연구

        본 연구는 메탈로센 신촉매 공정 개발을 위하여 진행되었으며, 하나의 촉매에 두 개의 활성점을 갖는 pentamethylene bridged dinuclear zirconocene을 Noh 등의 protocol을 활용하여 합성하였고, 상업화시 가장 중요한 변수인 반응 수율을 향상시키기 위하여 각 합성 단계의 개선을 시도하였다. Biscyclopentadienyl pentane 합성시 silica gel chromatography column을 이용하여 순수한 ligand를 제조하였고, trimethyltin compound 합성시 용매 변환과 TEA 주입을 통하여 수율을 향상시켰다. 최종 메탈레이션 반응시에는 반응 온도의 변화를 통하여 촉매의 활성을 향상시킬 수 있었다. This study was done for the development of a new metallocene catalyst process. The pentamethylene bridged dinuclear zirconocene which have two active sites in one catalyst had been synthesized using Noh et al's protocol and each synthetic step was modified for the improvement of reaction yield which was the most important variable in commercialization. Pure biscyclopentadienylpentane was obtained by passing through silica gel chromatography column and the reaction yield of trimethyltin compound was improved by solvent change and TEA injection. A change in the reaction temperature during the final metallation process also improved the catalytic activity.

        홍삼류의 섭취가 비만과 혈중 지질의 상호관계에 미치는 영향

        비만은 동맥경화의 위험인자로서 혈중에 triglyceride의 농도를 종가시키고, 상대적으로 HDL-Cholesterol의 농도를 감소시킴과 동시에 수축기 혈압을 상승시킨다. 본 연구에서 홍삼제품류를 4년 또는 5년 동안 복용해 온 건강한 사람 (ginseng군)과 홍삼제품을 복용하지 않은 건강한 사람 (control군)을 대상으로 하여 신체 계측치로부터 비만지수를 구하고 이것과 혈중의 triglyceride (TG)농도, TG/HDL-Cholesterol ratio 및 수축기 혈압과의 상호관계를 연구한 바, ginseng군에서는 대조군에 비해 혈중의 TG 농도가 일정하게 유지되었고, TG/HDL-Cholesterol ratio 및 수축기 혈압도 일정하게 유지되었다. 이러한 현상은 ginseng군에서 기호품으로 alcohol을 섭취하거나, 흡연을 한 경우에도 상관없이 일정하게 유지 되었다. 이 결과는 홍삼제품류를 장기 복용하면 비만의 저하 및 고혈압 또는 동맥경화의 위험인자가 억제될 수 있고, 결론적으로 비만, 고혈압 및 동맥경화를 예방할 수 있을 것으로 추정한다. Obesity is the risk fcactor of atherosclerosis and not only increases triglyceride concentration in blood but also decreases relatively the ratio of TG to HDL-Cholesterol in blood. In case of obesity, systolic blood pressure is also increased in responding the increase of TG in blood. Index of obesity in red ginseng-taking group (ginseng group) was lower as compared with non-red ginseng-taking group (control group). The TG concentration, the ratio of triglyceride to HDL-cholesterol in blood and systolic blood pressure were decreased in the subjects of ginseng group compared with that in control group. It is inferred that long-term intake of ginseng products may help to prevent the risk of atherosclerosis and obesity.

      • 접촉매질에 따른 다공질규소의 전류-전압 특성

        본 연구는 다공질규소를 다이오드 등과 같은 전기소자로 응용하기 위해 접촉매질을 달리할 때 나타나는 I-V 특성을 조사하였다. 그 결과 다음과 같은 몇 가지 사실이 얻어졌다. 첫째, 다공질규소와 액체접촉을 시킬 때 불화수소의 경우에는 비정류성 음성 접촉이 나타났으며, 에탄올의 경우에는 접촉 특성이 나타나지 않았다. 둘째, 다공질규소와 고체접촉을 시킬 때 Cu에서는 정류성 특성이, 그리고 Al, Au, Ag의 경우는 비정류성 특성이 나타났다. 셋째, 다공질규소와 기체접촉을 시킬 때는 정류성에 가까운 특성이 나타났다. we investigate of I-V characteristics of porous silicon with different contact materials for application such as diode devices. The results are as follows : Firstly, when porous silicon contacted with liquid state materials, ohmic contact property of non-rectification is observed in I-V characteristic of porous silicon for HF solution as contact materials. No contact properties is observed for ethanol solution as contact materials. Secondly, when porous silicon contacted with solid state materials, rectification property is observed in I-V characteristic of porous silicon for Cu as contact materials. non-rectification property is observed in I-V characteristic of porous silicon for Al, Au, Ag as contact materials. Finally, when porous silicon contacted with gas state materials, near rectification property is observed in I-V characteristic of porous silicon for ethanol gas as contact materials.

        『마사 퀘스트』 에서의 자아 추구 여정에 관한 소고 : 공포의 어머니 원형을 중심으로

        Martha Quest, one of the stories in Children of Violence series, concentrates on Martha, who is trying to seek her own identity, but in vain. Around her there are figures hindering her from finding her self. According to Erich Neumann, they are the figures that personify the Terrible Mother Archetype. When the ego(heroine) is in their control, the terrible and devouring aspects of it prohibit the ego from trying to get out of them. One of the figures who represents the "terrible mother" archetype is Mrs. Quest. She is Martha's mother, but disregards her daughter's age, so she always considers Martha as a young child. Another is Donovan, who helps her join the social circle. At first, he seems to be a supporter of her. He, however, wants her to behave in his own fashion, such as makeup, clothes, and making friends, etc. Mrs. Anderson is another person that stands for the "terrible mother" archetype in that she bans Martha's marriage to her son, Donovan because of money. Stella erases Martha's personality by arranging the relationship between Martha and Dolly. Indirectly, she urges that Martha can't marry him because he isn't the same race as she. Finally, Martha gets married to Douglas, who is one of the members of the Sports Club which symbolizes the White Society. Here, one important device used by the "terrible mother" is sleep. When Martha sleeps, she forgets all the things she experienced outside. Mrs. Quest and Stella ask her to sleep after her serious problems. But on the other hand, while sleeping, Martha gains a warning of her future, and becomes aware of her present condition through dreams. Besides, she attempts to read lots of books, leading her to decide what to do in the future. This means that now she is controlled by the "terrible mother", but later she will get over it, and can free herself.

        Inhibitory Effect of Cordycepin on Human Platelet Aggregation

        Cordycepin separated from Cordyceps militaris is a major physiologic active component in Cordyceps militaris. The platelet aggregation is stimulated by Ca^(2+), which is either mobilized from intracellular endoplasmic reticulum or transported from extracellular space. cGMP antagonizes the actions of Ca^(2+). Based on these facts, we have investigated the effects of cordycepin on the mobilization of Ca^(2+) and the production of cGMP on collagen (10 ㎍/ml)-induced human platelet aggregation. Cordycepin potently stimulated the human platelet aggregation induced by collagen (10 ㎍/ml) in a dose-dependent manner. Cordycepin (500 μM) inhibited also the collagen-induced human platelet aggregation in the presence both 1 mM and 2 mM of CaCl_(2). These are in accord with the results that cordycepin inhibited the Ca^(2+)-influx on collagen-induced human platelet aggregation. These results suggest that cordycepin decrease the intracellular Ca^(2+) concentration to inhibit collagen-induced human platelet aggregation. Besides, cordycepin increased the level of cGMP on collagen-induced human platelet aggregation. This result is related with the decrease of intracellular Ca^(2+) concentration, because cGMP inhibits the mobilization of Ca^(2+). In addition, cordycepin inhibited the human platelet aggregation induced by LY-83583, inhibitor of guanylate cyclase. This result suggested that cordycepin inhibit the platelet aggregation by stimulating the activity of guanylate cyclase. In conclusion, we demonstrated that cordycepin might have the antiplatelet function by inhibiting Ca^(2+)-mobilization via the stimulation of the production of cGMP.

      • 일부 응급구조과 학생과 간호과 학생의 안락사에 대한 태도조사 연구

        This descriptive study was conducted to identify the attitude toward euthanasia of EMT and nursing students and to compare their attitude before and after clinical practice. The convenience sample was comprised of 40 first grade and 40 second grade EMT students attended at G college in G-city, and 40 first grade and 40 third grade nursing students attended at C college in C-province. The variable was tested with an euthanasia attitude scale developed by Kim Ae Kyoung(2001). The valid responses were obtained and analyzed by using SPSS PC+ from November 25 to December 6.2002. The results showed that most of the respondents agreed to have positive attitude toward euthanasia in terms of client's right and client's quality of life. Also, they thought that euthanasia should be legalized and the right to die with dignity should be guaranteed. The EMT respondents having a clinical experience showed significantly higher score than respondents having no experience in the subarea of medical ethics and nursing respondents who had a clinical practice showed significantly higher score than others no experience in the subarea of quality of life. But, the other sub-areas had no significant difference between the respondents before and after clinical practice.

      • 급랭응고된 Nd-Fe-B 합금의 미세조직에 관한 연구

        To develop the Nd-Fe-B base permanent magnet materials, rapidly-solidified ribbon was made by melt spinning method. The main purpose of this paper was to investigate the microstructure of rapidly-solidified Nd-Fe-B alloy. During the solidification of rapidly-solidified ribbon, columnar structure at wheel contact area was developed and followed by cell structure at unstable planar interface due to the decrease of cooling rate. In some specimen, dendritic structure was observed between columnar and cell structure and volume fraction of the dendritic structure was a little. Grain size of melt-spun ribbon was about 200-500nm, The phase of the microstructure was mainly was mainly ?? and structure was observed at gain boundaries.
