An Introduction to the Edumatrix Set and Its Didactic Capabilities

Learning through “recreational mathematics” has become a meaningful outlet to children of all ages. The Edumatrix set is a didactic tool for the development of logical and abstract reasoning among students. In this paper, we provide several illustrative exercises involving Edumatrix that teachers can utilize in their classrooms. We formulate students’ expected learning outcomes by aligning each exercise to the CCSSM content standards as well as examining which Standards for Mathematical Practices (SMP) our proposed exercises promote.

<P>Resistance standards from 1 Omega to 100 kOmega, with calculable frequency dependencies of up to 1 MHz, have been developed for the calibration of commercial inductance-capacitance-resistance (LCR) meters and impedance analyzers. The resistors are designed on the basis of single bifilar loops. The typical resistance change from dc to 1 MHz is from 200 to 800 muOmega/Omega. According to the measurement results, the frequency dependencies of the resistors are several times lower than the measurement uncertainty of commercial LCR meters</P>
FREE SURFACE WAVE BY CIRCULAR CYLINDER

We consider steady free-surface two-dimensional flow past a circular cylinder in water of infinite depth. The fluid is assumed to be inviscid and incompressible, and the flow is irrotational; surface tension on the free surface is neglected. Our concern is with the periodic waves generated downstream and the location of flow separation from the cylinder. The formulation of the problem is applicable to the study of bow and stern flows occurring near a ship moving at a constant velocity on the free surface of a fluid. An advanced hodograph method is employed to derive an analytical expression for the complex potential of the flow. The problem is reduced to a system of two integro-differential equations in the velocity modulus on the free surface and in the slope of the bottom surface. The Brillouin -illat criterion is applied to determine the location of the point of flow separation from the cylinder. Results showing the effect of gravity on the flow detachment and the waves downstream are presented over a wide range of Froude numbers.

축전기의 평행판 전극 사이에 주입된 액체 유전체 유동에 의해 발생되는 차동 전기용량 변화를 토대로 기울기의 정밀측정 방법을 개발하였다. 기울기(각도) 0$^\circ \sim \pm$ 90 $^\circ$의 범위에서 직선에 대한 상관계수가 0.99999로 분석되었으며, 주파수 100 Hz $\sim$ 100 kHz 범위에서 주파수 영향은 없었다. 전극구조를 완벽한 3-단자형 축전기로 설계하였기 때문에, 외부로부터의 전자기 잡음 또는 전기장 영향이 전혀 없이 기울기를 정밀하게 측정할 수 있었다. 또한 안정된 디지털 출력을 이용하여 기울기의 정밀측정 뿐만 아니라 장치나 구조물 등의 기울기의 원격조정 또는 항시기록(monitoring)에도 적용이 가능하다. A precise method for measuring inclination, which is based on the measurement of differential capacitances generated by a liquid dielectric flowing between parallel-type electrodes of a capacitor, has been developed. The correlation coefficient of the sensor was analyzed to be 0.99999 in the range of inclinations from 0$^o$ to $\pm$ 90$^o$, and no frequency effect was detected in the range of 100 Hz to 100 kHz. Because the electrode's structure was designed as a perfect 3-terminal capacitor, the inclination was precisely measured without any effects due to environmental noise or electric fields. Because of its stable digital output, this method is applicable not only for precise measurements of inclination but also for either remote control or monitoring of inclinations of instruments and/or constructions.
Dual-Bell Contour를 갖는 Slot Nozzle의 추력특성

고정된 팽창비 노즐을 갖는 비행체의 최대 비추력은 노즐 출구 압력이 로켓의 비행궤적 중 일치하는 몇 몇 대기압력 고도에서 갖게 된다. Dual-Bell Contour를 갖는 Slot Nozzle은 고도보정기법의 하나로써 통상적인 Bell Nozzle과 비교하였을 때 지상에서는 약 8% 그리고 고고도에서는 약 3.6%의 추력증가 특성을 갖는 다는 것이 연구결과를 통해 알려졌다. At rigid, fixed-area nozzle with a given expansion ratio the maximum specific impulse is reached when nozzle exit pressure is selected as equal to some atmospheric pressure on trajectory of rocket flight. Slot Nozzle with Dual-Bell contour is one of the altitude compensation methods. The calculations shows the thrust of Slot Nozzle increased to 8% near the Earth and 3.6% in space at equal conditions with conventional Bell Nozzle.
