        요약기업에는 갈등, 역설, 딜레마와 같은 모순적인 경향이 偏在함에도 불구하고 조직이론가, 넓게는 경영학자들은 어느 한 가지 측면만을 강조하여 기업에 관한 이론들을 전개해 왔다. 대립적 경향들을 무시하고 기업이 마치 그림 짜맞추기(jigsaw) 퍼즐과 같이 미학적으로 완벽하고 아름답게 디자인된 것처럼 그리는 것은 이론가들에게는 편리하였지만 그렇게 구성된 이론은 기업의 실제 모습을 심각하게 왜곡하거나 고작 부분적 진실만을 다룰 수밖에 없었다. 편향된 이론적 발전이 불가피할 수밖에 없었던 역사적 맥락은 20세기 초부터 대략 1970년대까지 지속된 현대 자본주의의 특성에서 찾을 수 있을 것이다. 이 연구의 목적은 기업을 둘러 싼 여러 형태의 모순들이 조직 이론의 발전과정에서 어떻게 다루어져 왔는가를 추적하고, 기업의 모순을 효과적으로 관리하기 위한 개념적 틀고 모순관리의 실현을 위해서 기업이 갖추어야 할 조건을 따져보는 것이다.형식논리에서 모순은 과학의 패배를 의미한다. 그러나 우리가 참된 지식(real knowledge)에 도달하려는 데 있어서 모순은 승리를 향해 나아가는 첫걸음이다

        The properties of alumina sol for single layer Anti-Reflective film by dip-coating were investigated. Transparent alumina sol could be obtained by heating the sol within 2 hours after hydrolysis at room temperature. The particle size of sols decreased with increasing the amount of nitric acid, while the specific surface area and the total pore volume of heat treated gels increased, up to the ratio of 0.1 mol nitric acid per 1 mol alkoxide. Excess addition of nitric acid above 0.1 mol resulted in decrement of the specific surface area and the total pore volume, and broadness of the pore size distribution. The average pore diameter and the total pore volume of heat-treated gel at 400℃ with composition of 1 alkoxide·100 water·0.1 nitric acid in ratio were ?? and 0.315 cc/g, respectively.

        An anechoic chamber was constructed to make to condition of acoustic free field at the Department of Physics, Sung Kyun Kwan University. In this paper the criteria for the design and construction of the anechoic chamber are described. 48cm long wedges of density 15.3kg/㎥ glasswool attached to the 40×20×20㎤ base were used for the lining of anechoic chamber with the cutoff frequency of 125Hz. The interior space of the chamber is 3.56m long, 3.38m wide and 2.37m high.

      • 치과 기공사들에게서 나타나는 호흡기 증상과 이의 관련 요인

        This study was carried out to investigate subjective respiratory symptoms and their attributable factors in Korean dental laboratory technicians. A questionnaire was mailed to randomly selected 1,900 dental laboratory technicians. Among them, 1,344 dental technicians completed the questionnaires and returmned them. Validity and reliability tests on the questionnaires were carried out before the main survey. To investigate risk factors on respiratory subjective symptoms, we performed analysis on distribution of characteristics, and then investigated univariate analysis and multiple logistic regression analysis. The prevalence rate of wheezing, cough and phlegm, and dyspnea was 4.8%, 33.9%, 54.9%, respectively. Statistically significant factors inducing subjective respiratory symptoms by multiple logistic regression analysis were sex, smoking, exercise, health examination, work hours a day, investment gas, investment dust, metal fume, resin vapor, and asbestos dust. Considering the results above, it seems that most subjective respiratory symptoms are related with health habits and occupational environmental-related factors. The result, consideration in mind, suggest that health promotion programs for smoking cessation, regular health examination, and physical exercise in health habit, and improvement on casting and resin work in dental technological environment be necessary.

      • Management of Paradox : A Comparison of Organizational Structure and Human Resource Practices in Korean and Japanese Firms

        Defining management of paradox as "managerial and organizational practices that realize the simultaneous accomplishment of equally desirable, multiple strategic objectives that are seemingly or actually incompatible". this paper explores how organizational capabilities of effectively dealing with paradox can be acquired. Specifically, the paper attempts to address two organizational mechanisms: organizational structure and human resource practices. Propositions deduced from the existing literature on paradox and comparative management were tested with the data collected from 103 Korean and 136 Japanese firms. The data indicated that firms have to be multi-talented, It was found that firms that rely on a particular set of structural properties and Human resource practices at the expense of others were not so effective. In contrast. firms that successfully accomplished innovation and efficiency objectives simultaneously were those that were able to mix paradoxical organizational practices.

      • The Measurement of Advanced manufacturing Technology: A Conceptual and Methodological Approach

        This study examines the concept of advanced manufacturing technology(AMT) at the organizational level. Based on an assumption that computer technology is the key underlying property of AMT, Ⅰ propose a conceptual framework by which organizational measures of AMT utilization can be developed. Specifically, AMT utilization is conceptualized in terms of three latent variables: 1) usage of computer technology in individual functions; 2) degree of computer integration between pairs of functions; and 3) sophistication of computer integration. An instrument designed to validate this framework was tested for reliability and validity by suing data from 185 American manufacturing organizations in six metal-working industries. To assess the construct validity of the measures, a confirmatory factor analysis was performed. The parameters of the measurement model were estimated by LISREL VI. The results indicate that the reliability and validity of the instrument are appropriate. This study concludes by discussing the usefulness of the proposed measures and the relationship between these measures and the more traditional measures o0f organizational technology.

      • Advanced Manufacturing Technology and Organization Structure : Empowerment or Subordination?

        Numerous case studies have liked advanced manufacturing technology(AMT) to profound changes in organization structure. Few findings, however, have been consistent across studies. This paper reports the findings of a large-scale quantitative investigation of the relationship between AMT and organization structure. Two perspectives - Marxist and Idealist- are contrasted in terms of the nature of this relationship. A comprehensive conceptual framework for AMT is developed and operationalized, and used to test the implications of the two perspectives. The results support a new and more complex portrait of the relationship between AMT and organization structure, involving aspects of both Marxist and Idealist theory.

      • Structural vs. Contextual Ambidexterity : An Empirical Test of the Decision Theoretic Perspective on Organizational Learning

        Since March's (1991) influential study of exploration and exploitation in organizational learning, organizational ambidexterity, which recognizes the need for simultaneous pursuit of exploration and exploitation, has earned much attention. In the current literature, two dominant modes of resolving the contradictory needs are generally recognized: one structural and the other contextual. However, these two modes of dealing with the contradiction have been developed in a rather separate, compartmentalized way obstructing further development of the field. Furthermore, there has been no attempt to put the two modes under the scrutiny of a welldesigned crucial test. In this paper, we try to contribute to the literature by examining the theoretical intricacies of the two solutions, and by empirically testing the two competing logics under a single study. For doing so, our study proceeds by the following steps. First, we will identify the fundamental logics and assumptions of the two solutions with regard to human behavior and the nature of organizations. Specifically, we will show that underlying the structural solution is James G. March's classical behavioral decision theory, whereas the contextual solution is founded on the notion of paradox management. Second, we will derive a set of competing research hypotheses from the two theoretical perspectives respectively, which will be tested with the data collected from 76 Korean firms. In general, the data showed that the contextual solution is more conducive to organizational ambidexterity. The paper concludes by examining the implications of organizational ambidexterity on short-term and long-term financial performance of the sample firms.
