        Patient self-reported symptoms using visual analog scales are useful to estimate endoscopic activity in ulcerative colitis

        Background/Aims: In clinical practice, colonoscopy has been regarded as the gold standard for the evaluation of disease severity as well as mucosal healing in ulcerative colitis (UC). Some activity indices incorporating patient symptoms as parameters have been shown to reflect the endoscopic activity of UC. The aim of this study was to examine whether self-reported symptoms with visual analog scales (VAS) can predict endoscopic activity. Methods: A cross-sectional study of 150 UC patients who underwent colonoscopy with submission of VAS scores of 4 symptoms: general condition, bloody stools, stool form, and abdominal pain (0: no symptoms, 10: the most severe symptoms). Each VAS score was compared with colonoscopic activity assessed with the Mayo endoscopic subscore (MES). Results: All VAS scores were significantly correlated with the endoscopic severity (Spearman correlation coefficients of general condition, bloody stools, stool form, and abdominal pain: 0.63, 0.64, 0.58, and 0.43, respectively). Mucosal healing defined as MES 0 alone was predicted by VAS score <1.5 on general condition or 0 on bloody stools with sensitivity of 0.84 and 0.76 and specificity of 0.66 and 0.76, respectively. Additionally, VAS score <2.5 on stool form predicted active lesions in distal colorectum alone with sensitivity of 0.67 and specificity of 0.66, suggesting that this item could predict the indication of topical therapy. Conclusions: Self-reported VAS scores on symptoms were correlated with endoscopic activity of UC. To clarify the relationship between VAS and mucosal healing, further validation studies are needed.       • Proposal of Cost-Benefit Analysis for Advanced Rider Assistance System

        The purpose of this study is to propose an evaluation method of ARAS (Advanced Rider Assistance System). Many studies focused on accident-reduction effects, but few studies evaluate the balance between cost and benefit. Such researches can be used to investigate which system is better to be introduced to the market. In this study, we quantified the social usefulness of ARAS by using insurance data to convert the benefit due to the introduction of ARAS into money. We combined RS (Riding Simulator) experiments and computer simulation based on time-series reliability model and integrated error model for cost-benefit analysis. In our suggested cost-benefit analysis, we compared the reduction of human and material loss due to the introduction of ARAS as a social benefit with the cost required for the introduction of ARAS as a social cost. We can investigate whether ARAS is useful from the cost-benefit ratio. As a result, under the assumed conditions in this study, if the ARAS price is set at JPY 10,000, JPY 30,000, JPY 50,000, and JPY 70,000, the cost-benefit ratio for the tenth year will be 4.98, 1.66, 1.00, 0.71, respectively. We confirmed that we can evaluate social usefulness of ARAS using cost-benefit analysis.

      • Suggestion and Evaluation of HMI System for Motorcycles Vol.1 : Experiment of communication-based HMI System using riding simulator

        Objective: The purpose of this research is to analyze riders’ behavior and the reduction of traffic accidents when they are in a risk of traffic accident if the riders’ use a Human-Machine-Interface (HMI) system that presents effective information to prevent accidents. Background: In recent years, accidents of four-wheeled vehicles are decreasing, but accidents of motorcycle are still high, so we suggest an HMI system that presents effective information to prevent accidents to motorcycle riders. Method: We carried out experiments with three scenarios using a riding simulator. We analyzed 15 riders’ behavior when they are in risky situations for each 20 times (10 with the system and 10 without the system). We set up three scenarios which are supposed at intersections. First scenario is that other vehicle running on the different lane which cross the lane while an ego vehicle rider is running ignores a stop sign when the rider runs on the priority road. Second scenario is that other vehicle running on the opposite lane overlooks the rider of ego vehicle and turns right when the rider runs on the priority road. Third scenario is that the rider of ego vehicle ignores a stop sign when the rider runs on the non-priority road. Results: As a result, the reaction time to the initiation timing of the rider’s braking was shortened, and the average deceleration and time to collision between an ego vehicle and an oncoming vehicle increased when a rider was using HMI system. This means that the HMI system is effective to minimize the risk of accidents. This allowed motorcycle riders to quickly notice the existence of other vehicles. Because of this, the rider can slow down safely, and this system can reduce the risk.

      • Enhanced Catalytic Four-Electron Dioxygen (O<sub>2</sub>) and Two-Electron Hydrogen Peroxide (H<sub>2</sub>O<sub>2</sub>) Reduction with a Copper(II) Complex Possessing a Pendant Ligand Pivalamido Group

        <P>A copper complex, [(PV-tmpa)Cu<SUP>II</SUP>](ClO<SUB>4</SUB>)<SUB>2</SUB> (<B>1</B>) [PV-tmpa = bis(pyrid-2-ylmethyl){[6-(pivalamido)pyrid-2-yl]methyl}amine], acts as a more efficient catalyst for the four-electron reduction of O<SUB>2</SUB> by decamethylferrocene (Fc*) in the presence of trifluoroacetic acid (CF<SUB>3</SUB>COOH) in acetone as compared with the corresponding copper complex without a pivalamido group, [(tmpa)Cu<SUP>II</SUP>](ClO<SUB>4</SUB>)<SUB>2</SUB> (<B>2</B>) (tmpa = tris(2-pyridylmethyl)amine). The rate constant (<I>k</I><SUB>obs</SUB>) of formation of decamethylferrocenium ion (Fc*<SUP>+</SUP>) in the catalytic four-electron reduction of O<SUB>2</SUB> by Fc* in the presence of a large excess CF<SUB>3</SUB>COOH and O<SUB>2</SUB> obeyed first-order kinetics. The <I>k</I><SUB>obs</SUB> value was proportional to the concentration of catalyst <B>1</B> or <B>2</B>, whereas the <I>k</I><SUB>obs</SUB> value remained constant irrespective of the concentration of CF<SUB>3</SUB>COOH or O<SUB>2</SUB>. This indicates that electron transfer from Fc* to <B>1</B> or <B>2</B> is the rate-determining step in the catalytic cycle of the four-electron reduction of O<SUB>2</SUB> by Fc* in the presence of CF<SUB>3</SUB>COOH. The second-order catalytic rate constant (<I>k</I><SUB>cat</SUB>) for <B>1</B> is 4 times larger than the corresponding value determined for <B>2</B>. With the pivalamido group in <B>1</B> compared to <B>2</B>, the Cu<SUP>II</SUP>/Cu<SUP>I</SUP> potentials are –0.23 and –0.05 V vs SCE, respectively. However, during catalytic turnover, the CF<SUB>3</SUB>COO<SUP>–</SUP> anion present readily binds to <B>2</B> shifting the resulting complex’s redox potential to –0.35 V. The pivalamido group in <B>1</B> is found to inhibit anion binding. The overall effect is to make <B>1</B> easier to reduce (relative to <B>2</B>) during catalysis, accounting for the relative <I>k</I><SUB>cat</SUB> values observed. <B>1</B> is also an excellent catalyst for the two-electron two-proton reduction of H<SUB>2</SUB>O<SUB>2</SUB> to water and is also more efficient than is <B>2</B>.         주행 공공 안내표지판의 맥락적 시인성 향상을 위한 표지판 디자인 연구

        도로 위 공공 정보를 안내하는 표지판은 짧은 시간 내에 의사결정을 내릴 수 있도록 도와야 하므로 해당 지점에서 적합한 정보를 효과적으로 표현할 수 있어야 한다. 현재 법령에 의해 개정된 도로표지규칙은 도로명 주소를 기반으로 하려 기존의 도로표지판과 비교할 때 정보의 종류, 표현 방법, 표현 비중 등에서 크게 달라진 모습을 보여주고 있다. 본 연구는 도로명을 기준으로 달라진 개정된 도로표지판이 실제 지각-인지-이해-투영의 인지적인 관점에서 효과적인지를 분석하고 실제 주행하는 환경과 적합한 정보를 제공하고 있는지 검토하였다. 분석한 정보를 기반으로 개선된 디자인을 제시하고, 기존의 도로명 위주의 표지판과 비교하여 시인성 정도를 평가하는 실험을 진행하고 표지판 내용의 적합성에 대한 정성적 조사를 진행하였다. 이를 통해 보다 적합한 주행 정보와 직관적인 시인성을 높이는 방안을 검토할 수 있을 것으로 기대한다. Public Signs guiding drivers on the road should help make decisions within a short period of time, so appropriate information should be effectively expressed at the point. Currently, the road marking rules revised by the law show a significant change in the type of information, expression method, and weight of expression compared to existing road signs to be based on road name addresses. This study analyzed whether the revised road signs changed based on the road name were effective in perspective of perception-cognition-understanding-projection and examined whether they provided appropriate information for the actual driving environment. Based on the analyzed information, an experiment was conducted to present an improved design, evaluate the degree of visibility compared to existing road name-oriented signs, and a qualitative investigation was conducted on the suitability of the sign contents. Through this, it is expected that more suitable driving information and measures to increase intuitive visibility can be reviewed.

        토함산 석굴의 팔부중상(八部衆像) -八部衆(팔부중)에서 八部神將(팔부신장)으로의 移行期(이행기)의 一例(일례)로서의 자리매김-

        石窟庵前室의 尊像과 같이, 八部衆像의 도상적 특징의 일부를 포함한 8 구의 神將像의 편성은 全羅南道求禮華嚴寺西五層石塔, 慶尙北道英陽郡의 化川洞三層石塔 및 縣一洞三層石塔(모두 9 세기후반)에 보여진, 韓國에서의 八部衆像 변화에 있어서 하나의 과정이었다. 특히 化川洞三層石塔 및 縣一洞三層石塔은, 阿修羅·乾달婆·龍·夜叉의 4 존의 특징이 남아 있는 점도 공통된다. 즉, 石窟庵前室의 8 존은, 八部衆 보다는 오히려, 八部神將이라고 칭해야 할 단계의 군상, 八部衆의 도상적 특징을 일부에 남긴 八部神將이라고 말할 수 있다. 이러한, 八部衆부터 八部神將으로의 변화가 생기는 시기가, 석탑에 있어서는 9 세기 후반경부터 인 것을 감안하면, 현재의 石窟庵前室의 8 존(八部神將)을 세우는 것도, 도상과 구성으로 판단하면 9 세기 후반 이후가 된다. 즉, 현재의 상태에 있어서의 전실은, 8 세기 중순부터 후반의 창건 당초의의 것은 아니고, 후에 증축되었을 가능성을 엿볼 수 있다. 따라서 석굴의 전실에 八部衆을 배치하는 예가 中國에서는 五代부터이며, 금강역사상과 八部衆像이 石窟庵의 다른 상에 비해 양식적으로도 형식화 된 것으로, 9 세기말에서 10 세기 첫 무렵의 작례와 유사하므로 9 세기 후반기에 조성되었다고 생각된다. Like a Sacred Image in Seokulam Vestibule (石窟庵前室), the composition of 8 statues of god commanders (神將像) which include some iconic characteristics of Palbujungsang is a process during the changes in Palbujungsang in Korea which are shown in the Five-story Stone Pagoda (全羅南道求禮華嚴寺西五層石塔) West (西) in Hwaeomsa, Gurye, Cheollanam-do and the Three-story Stone Pagoda in Hwacheon-dong, Youngyang-gun, Kyungsangbuk-do (in the late 9thcentury). Especially the Three-story Stone Pagoda in Hwacheon-dong and the Three-story Stone Pagoda in Hyeonil-dong are in common in that they keep characteristics off our sacred images such as Asura-Gandharva-Naga-Yaksa. In other words, 8 sacred images in Seokulam Vestibule are Palbusinjang rather than Palbujung. They are Palbusinjang with some iconic characteristics of Palbujung. Considering that it is the late half of the 9th century when Palbujung was transformed into Palbusinjang in stone pagoda, it can be guessed that 8sacred(Palbusinjang) in Seokulam Vestibule was built in or after the second half of the 9th century. In other words, the current vestibule was not built at the time of original foundation in middle of the 8th century butit was built at the later time. It seems that Palbujung sang in Seokgulam Vestibule were built in late 9th century as the Palbujung were introduced in vestibule in China from Odae(五代), and Keumgangyeoksasang and Palbujungsang are more formatted than other images in Seokulam and they are more similar to the samples in the end of the 9th century and eartly 10th century.

      • Quantification of Riding Performance and Mental Stress Level when Using Advanced Driver Assistance System for Powered Two-Wheelers

        In recent years, ICT (Information and Communication Technologies) such as V2I (Vehicleto- Infrastructure), V2V (Vehicle-to-Vehicle) are being actively developed for driving safety systems across the world. In the future, ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance System) using ICT and various kinds of sensors will be more implemented on PTW (Powered Two-wheeler) and introducing pace also will be accelerated. However, ADAS such as alarm systems can increase the level of mental stress of the four-wheeler drivers and it can be more critical for PTW riders. Therefore, we propose a method of quantifying the riding performance and mental stress level of PTW riders. In this study, we investigated the riders riding behaviors and mental stress using riding simulator (n = 7, mean age = 24.57). The riding performance was quantified as a single indicator, the mental stress level was assumed the normalized EDA signal when riders encountered a risky situation. As a result, the average mental stress level slightly increased when using the system, but there was no significant difference (t (20) = - 1.366, p=0.187). However, the riding performance improved when using the system (t (20) = -5.996, p<0.001).

        Pervasive Developmental Disorders and Autism Spectrum Disorders: Are These Disorders One and the Same?

        The concept of pervasive developmental disorders (PDD) and autism spectrum disorders (ASD) closely resemble each other. Both ICD-10 and DSM-IV use the term PDD. The authors surveyed the perception of PDD/ASD and attitudes toward terminology. The subjects of this study were 205 medical/social-welfare professionals working in fields relating to developmental disorders. Questionnaires were mailed to site investigators at the collaborating institutes. With regard to what the scope of ASD and PDD encompasses, the answers were almost equally divided among three views: ASD and PDD are the same, PDD is wider in scope and ASD is wider. The terms PDD and autism were used in slightly different ways depended upon the situation. Our results demonstrate that the parameters of PDD and ASD are unclear and that the terms related to PDD/ASD are often used differently. Further studies are required to develop more clear and reliable diagnostic criteria for PDD.

      • Suggestion and Evaluation of HMI System for Motorcycles Vol.2 : Simulation study for the evaluation method of HMI system for motorcycles

        Objective: The purpose of this research is to propose an evaluation method of HMI (Human Machine Interface) system for motorcycles. Background: In recent years, injury accidents of four-wheeled vehicles are decreasing, but the accidents of motorcycles are still on a high trend. As a reason for this, active safety systems are beginning to spread for four-wheeled vehicles, but it is not very common for motorcycles. In addition, evaluation method of HMI system for motorcycle has not been proposed yet. Method: In our previous studies, we proposed the HMI system for motorcycles and carried out experiments for the evaluation of its effectiveness to minimize traffic accidents. In this paper we evaluate the accident reduction effect of this system using Monte Carlo simulation. We focused on a typical accident in Japan which is the head to head collision at blind intersections, and the person who is driving on a non-priority road. At the experiment which we did, we set scenarios that a motorcycle rider is using the HMI system or a rider is not using system, and a rider is using the HMI but the system malfunction occurs. We set malfunction scenario in order to survey the dependence level on the system of motorcycle riders. From this experiment, we analyzed the collision probability. And we perform Monte Carlo Simulation based on RT (Reaction Time) and Tca (Time for Collision Avoidance) which were investigated in the experiment study. From this simulation, we quantified the collision probability and impact speed. Conclusion: By using the system, we confirmed that the system can reduce the accident probability. We can conclude that this proposed method is possible to evaluate the HMI system for motorcycles.
