      • A transport model for high-frequency vibrational power flows in coupled heterogeneous structures

        The theory of microlocal analysis of hyperbolic partial differential equations shows that the energy density associated to their high-frequency solutions satisfies transport equations, or radiative transfer equations for randomly heterogeneous materials with correlation lengths comparable to the (small) wavelength. The main limitation to the existing developments is the consideration of boundary or interface conditions for the energy and power flow densities. This paper deals with the high-frequency transport regime in coupled heterogeneous structures. An analytical model for the derivation of high-frequency power flow reflection/transmission coefficients at a beam or a plate junction is proposed. These results may be used in subsequent computations to solve numerically the transport equations for coupled systems, including interface conditions. Applications of this research concern the prediction of the transient response of slender structures impacted by acoustic or mechanical shocks.

        The article proves the relevance of developing conceptual frameworks for managing the quality assurance of logistics activities in the context of socio-economic interaction of their participants. It is established that the fundamental difference of the logistic approach in management from traditional approaches is the allocation of a single management function of previously separated, disparate material flows, as well as economic, technological, information integration of chain links into a single system capable of effective management of these flows. It is substantiated that the functioning of the enterprise as a logistics system can be represented in the form of a triad of logistics components, namely: supply logistics, production logistics, sales logistics. Management of quality assurance processes of logistics activities in the context of socio-economic interaction of their participants is a functional component of the entire logistics system due to the quality of work and interaction of all participants in the implementation of certain activities. The quality of logistics activities will affect the level of economic potential, rationalization and optimization of all logistics flows. It is proved that the management of quality assurance processes of logistics activities in the context of socio-economic interaction of their participants involves the following main areas: the introduction of a quality system of logistics processes; development and implementation of the general strategy of quality improvement at the enterprise; internal integration; controlling. Management of quality assurance processes of logistics activities in the context of socio-economic interaction of its participants requires compliance with the following requirements: systematic and comprehensive management of all flow processes; coordination of criteria and indicators for assessing the effectiveness of the entire logistics system; dissemination of the use and application of information technology; ensuring partnerships and close interaction of all participants in sales networks.

        Permeability factors in nephrotic syndrome and focal segmental glomerulosclerosis

        Circulating permeability factors have been identified in the plasma of patients with focal segmental glomerulosclerosis (FSGS). Post-transplant recurrence of protei-nuria, improvement of proteinuria after treatment with plasmapheresis, and induction of proteinuria in experimental animals by plasma fractions each provide evidence for such plasma factors. Advanced proteomic methods have identified candidate molecules in recurrent FSGS. We have proposed cardiotrophin-like cytokine-1 as an active factor in FSGS. Another potential permeability factor in FSGS is soluble urokinase receptor. In our studies, in vitro plasma permeability activity is blocked by substances that may decrease active molecules or block their effects. We have shown that the simple sugar galactose blocks the effect of FSGS serum in vitro and decreases permeability activity when administered to patients. Since the identities of permeability factors and their mechanisms of action are not well defined, treatment of FSGS is empiric. Corticosteroids are the most common agents for initial treatment. Calcineurin inhibitors, such as cyclosporine A, and tacrolimus and immunosuppressive medications, including mycophenylate, induce remission is some patients with steroid-resistant or -dependent nephrotic syndrome. Therapies that diminish proteinuria and slow progression in FSGS as well as other conditions include renin-angiotensin blockade, blood pressure lowering and plasma lipid control. Use of findings from in vitro studies, coupled with definitive identification of pathogenic molecules, may lead to new treatments to arrest FSGS progression and prevent recurrence after transplantation.

        ELECTRON-IMPACT IONIZATION OF P-LIKE IONS FORMING Si-LIKE IONS

        <P>We have calculated electron-impact ionization (EII) for P-like systems from P to Zn15+ forming Si-like ions. The work was performed using the flexible atomic code (FAC) which is based on a distorted-wave approximation. All 3l -> nl' (n=3-35) excitation-autoionization (EA) channels near the 3p direct ionization threshold and 2l -> nl' (n=3-10) EA channels at the higher energies are included. Close attention has been paid to the detailed branching ratios. Our calculated total EII cross sections are compared both with previous FAC calculations, which omitted many of these EA channels, and with the available experimental results. Moreover, for Fe11+, we find that part of the remaining discrepancies between our calculations and recent measurements can be accounted for by the inclusion of the resonant excitation double autoionization process. Lastly, at the temperatures where each ion is predicted to peak in abundances in collisional ionization equilibrium, the Maxwellian rate coefficients derived from our calculations differ by 50%-7% from the previous FAC rate coefficients, with the difference decreasing with increasing charge.</P>

        Monitoring of the Content of Imidazoline-Containing Corrosion Inhibitor

        The qualitative composition of active components of the corrosion inhibitor CGW-85567 was studied. It was found that С18:2 and С18:1 imidazolines and the corresponding imidazolin-amides are the major components. The HPLC/MS technique was developed for their determination in the water solutions of monoethylene glycol (MEG). Industrial application of the inhibitor showed that MEG solution retained high concentration of the inhibitor for a long time after ceasing its addition into pipelines. Low values of the partition coefficients (0.010-0.014) of imidazolines in the system “water solution of MEG (concentration of MEG 62-85% v/v) - gas condensate” have allowed to pass on from the technology of continuous pumping of the inhibitor into protected pipelines to the periodic dosing technology. Taking into account a long time of circulation in the system and high temperatures during MEG regeneration process possible degradation products of the inhibitor were studied. N, N-dimethyl-dodecanamine-1, and N, N-dimethyl-tetradecanamine-1 were identified as major degradation products of the corrosion inhibitor CGW-85567.
