Thoracolumbar Vertebral Injuries with Neurological Deficit Treated with Posterior Decompression, Short Segment Pedicle Screw Fixation, and Interlaminar Fusion

        Sachin Kumar,Satish Kumar,Rajender Kumar Arya,Avinash Kumar 대한척추외과학회 2017 Asian Spine Journal Vol.11 No.6

Study Design: Prospective clinical study. Purpose: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effect of interlaminar fusion and short segment pedicle screw fixation on thoracolumbar vertebral injuries for preventing pain and post-traumatic kyphosis. Overview of Literature: The treatment of thoracolumbar injuries continues to be one of the most controversial areas in spine care. The main aim of surgical treatment is to decompress the spinal cord or nerve roots, realign the spine, and correct or prevent posttraumatic kyphosis. We evaluated the outcome of interlaminar fusion along with posterior decompression and short segment pedicle screw fixation in patients with thoracolumbar fractures with neurological deficit. Methods: Twenty-two patients with traumatic thoracolumbar vertebral injuries and neurological deficit underwent short segment pedicle screw fixation above and below the fractured vertebrae, posterior decompression, and interlaminar fusion using a bone graft. Results: All patients were followed up for 12 months postoperatively. The average operative time and blood loss was 142 minutes and 214 mL, respectively. Of the 22 patients, 14 recovered completely. Of the nine patients with American Spinal Injury Association (ASIA) grade A disease, two improved by 1 grade, whereas one each improved by grades 2, 3, and 4, and four did not recover. Radiologically, vertebral kyphosis angle improved from 20.91 preoperatively to 15.73 postoperatively, sagittal index improved from 24.77 to 18.73, the sagittal plane kyphosis angle improved from 17.45 to 11.41, regional angle kyphosis improved from 14.73 to 10.14, the superior inferior end plate angle from 16.14 to 13.00, and mean anterior body compression improved from 36.26 to 27.64 postoperatively. No implant failed and no patient had neurological deterioration. Conclusions: Short segment pedicle screw fixation with posterior decompression and interlaminar fusion provided considerable reduction in kyphosis, restored the vertebral height of patients with thoracolumbar vertebral injuries and neurological deficit, and prevented development of delayed kyphotic deformity.

Molecular Characterization of Rathi and Tharparkar Indigenous Cattle (Bos indicus) Breeds by RAPD-PCR

        Sharma, Amit Kumar,Bhushan, Bharat,Kumar, Sanjeev,Kumar, Pushpendra,Sharma, Arjava,Kumar, Satish Asian Australasian Association of Animal Productio 2004 Animal Bioscience Vol.17 No.9

Random amplification of polymorphic DNA-Polymerase Chain Reaction (RAPD-PCR) analysis was carried out using DNA samples of 30 animals of Rathi cattle and 42 animals of Tharparkar cattle. Genomic DNA was isolated as per standard protocol and evaluated for its quality, purity and concentration. Twenty three random primers were screened out of which 15 primers yielded satisfactory amplifications and were used for further analysis. Average numbers of polymorphic fragments per primer were 7.07${\pm}$0.86 in Rathi and 6.80${\pm}$0.61 in Tharparkar cattle. The percentage of polymorphic bands in these two cattle breeds were 86 and 87%, respectively. Within breed genetic similarities for pooled over primers in the animals of Rathi and Tharparkar breeds were .577${\pm}$0.30 and 0.531${\pm}$0.02, respectively on the basis of band frequency (BF) and 0.645${\pm}$0.04 and 0.534${\pm}$0.04, respectively on the basis of band sharing (BS). Averages of between breed genetic similarities for pooled over primers were 0.97 and 0.92 according to BF and BS, respectively, which reflect higher degree of genetic similarity between Rathi and Tharparkar cattle breeds. Index of genetic distance based on BF and BS for pooled over primers was 0.030${\pm}$0.011 and 0.088${\pm}$0.031, respectively. Percentage of polymorphic bands and within-breed genetic similarities on the basis of band frequency (BF) and band sharing (BS) for pooled over primers revealed higher genetic similarity in Rathi than Tharparkar cattle population. High estimates of between breed genetic similarities for pooled over primers indicated that either Rathi is having decent from Tharparkar or both the cattle breeds are having common descent. Low value of Index of genetic distances between these two cattle breeds may be due to the fact that Rathi and Tharparkar cattle breeds are the native of Thar Desert in Northwest India. The results of between breed genetic distances also confirm the existence of high degree of genetic similarity between these two breeds of cattle.

An Empirical Research of Gender Impact on Customer Behaviour towards Mobile Entertainment Services in India

Satish Kumar, G.N. KNU The Institute of Management Economy Research 2012 Asia-Pacific Journal of Business Vol.3 No.2

Mobile Entertainment is the new era in mobile communication. Mobile Entertainment service is a combination of games, music, videos, chatting and telecommunication which has created a wide market in India. There is a variation between male and female customers towards Mobile Entertainment services. This study is aimed at analyzing gender impact of attitude, subjective norm, perceived behaviour control intention and behaviour towards mobile entertainment services. The Theory of planned Behaviour (TPB) provided a framework. Total 566 male and 376 female mobile users of different age groups participated in the research. The data analysis was conducted in three-stages. First, reliability tests were performed. Upon satisfactory results, confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) is used to analysis convergent, concurrent and discriminant validity of the model. Once the model was validated Structural Equation Model (SEM) Multi-group analysis is used to find the impact of gender behaviour towards Mobile entertainment services. The results of the study confirmed that the model is viable in predicting variation in gender impact on mobile entertainment services. The findings have revealed that attitude, perceived behaviour control and intention has a significant impact on behaviour to use mobile entertainment but subjective norm has no significant impact on behaviour to use mobile entertainment.

      • Effect of fiber and aggregate size on mode-I fracture parameters of high strength concrete

        Kumar, Ch.Naga Satish,Krishna, P.V.V.S.S.R.,Kumar, D.Rohini Techno-Press 2017 Advances in concrete construction Vol.5 No.6

In this paper, an experimental investigation was carried out to study the effect of volume fraction of fiber and maximum aggregate size on mode-I fracture parameters of high strength concrete. Total of 108 beams were tested on loading frame with three point loading, the variables in the high strength concrete beams are aggregate size (20 mm, 16 mm and 10 mm) and volume fraction of fibers (0%, 0.5%, 1% and 1.5%). The fracture parameters like fracture energy, brittleness number and fracture process zone were analyzed by the size effect method (SEM). It was found that fracture energy (Gf) increases with increasing the Maximum aggregate size and also increasing the volume of fibers, brittleness number (${\beta}$) decreases and fracture process zone (CF) increases.

Densities and Speeds of Sound of <i>Jatropha curcas</i> Biodiesel + (C4–C5) Alkan-1-ol Binary Mixtures

Kumar, Satish,Sharma, Vinod Kumar,Lim, Wonsub,Cho, Jae Hyun,Moon, Il American Chemical Society 2012 Journal of chemical and engineering data Vol.57 No.8

<P>Densities (ρmix) and speeds of sound (<I>u</I>mix) for binary blends of <I>Jatropha curcas</I> biodiesel (1) + <I>n</I>-butanol or <I>n</I>-pentanol (2) were measured at <I>T</I> = (288.15 to 308.15) K and atmospheric pressure, over the entire composition range, with the help of a density and sound velocity meter (DSA 5000 M, Anton Paar). The density values were used to evaluate the excess molar volumes <I>V</I>mixE. The Redlich–Kister polynomial equation was adopted to compute and correlate the results, and a good agreement has been observed between experimental and calculated values. It has been observed that the ρ and <I>u</I> values of pure components and their binary blends decreased with respect to temperature. Further, results have been analyzed in terms of molecular forces functioning between biodiesel and alcohols.</P><P><B>Graphic Abstract</B> <IMG SRC='http://pubs.acs.org/appl/literatum/publisher/achs/journals/content/jceaax/2012/jceaax.2012.57.issue-8/je300256m/production/images/medium/je-2012-00256m_0008.gif'></P>

Antibiofilm and Anti-β-Lactamase Activities of Burdock Root Extract and Chlorogenic Acid against Klebsiella pneumoniae

( Satish Kumar Rajasekharan ),( Samiraj Ramesh ),( Ann Susan Satish ),( Jintae Lee ) 한국미생물 · 생명공학회 2017 Journal of microbiology and biotechnology Vol.27 No.3

Small phytochemicals have been successfully adopted as antibacterial chemotherapies and are being increasingly viewed as potential antibiofilm agents. Some of these molecules are known to repress biofilm and toxin production by certain bacterial and yeast pathogens, but information is lacking with regard to the genes allied with biofilm formation. The present study was performed to investigate the inhibitory effect of burdock root extract (BRE) and of chlorogenic acid (CGA; a component of BRE) on clinical isolates of Klebsiella pneumoniae. BRE and CGA exhibited significant antibiofilm activity against K. pneumoniae without inflicting any harm to its planktonic counterparts. In vitro assays supported the β-lactamase inhibitory effect of CGA and BRE while in silico docking showed that CGA bound strongly with the active sites of sulfhydryl-variable-1 β-lactamase. Furthermore, the mRNA transcript levels of two biofilmassociated genes (type 3 fimbriae mrkD and trehalose-6-phosphate hydrolase treC) were significantly downregulated in CGA- and BRE-treated samples. In addition, CGA inhibited biofilm formation by Escherichia coli and Candida albicans without affecting their planktonic cell growth. These findings show that BRE and its component CGA have potential use in antibiofilm strategies against persistent K. pneumoniae infections.

Steel billet reheat simulation with growth of oxide layer and investigation on zone temperature sensitivity

Satish Kumar Dubey,P. Srinivasan 대한기계학회 2014 JOURNAL OF MECHANICAL SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY Vol.28 No.3

This paper presents a three-dimensional heat conduction numerical model and simulation of steel billet reheating in a reheat furnace. The model considers the growth of oxide scale on the billet surfaces. Control-volume approach and implicit scheme of finite differencemethod are used to discretize the transient heat conduction equation. The model is validated with analytical results subject to limitedconditions. Simulations are carried out for predictions of three-dimensional temperature filed in the billet and oxide scale growth on thebillet surfaces. The model predictions are in agreement with expected trends. It was found that the effect of oxide scale on billet heating isconsiderable. In order to investigate the effect of zone temperatures on the responses, a parametric sensitivity subject to six responses ofinterest are carried out using analysis of mean approach. The simulation approach and parametric study presented will be useful and applicableto the steel industry.

Elucidating Molecular Interactions of Natural Inhibitors with HPV-16 E6 Oncoprotein through Docking Analysis

        Kumar, Satish,Jena, Lingaraja,Galande, Sneha,Daf, Sangeeta,Mohod, Kanchan,Varma, Ashok K. Korea Genome Organization 2014 Genomics & informatics Vol.12 No.2

Human papillomavirus (HPV) infection is the leading cause of cancer mortality among women worldwide. The life-threatening infection caused by HPV demands the need for designing anticancerous drugs. In the recent years, different compounds from natural origins, such as carrageenan, curcumin, epigallocatechin gallate, indole-3-carbinol, jaceosidin, and withaferin, have been used as a hopeful source of anticancer therapy. These compounds have been shown to suppress HPV infection by different researchers. In the present study, we explored these natural inhibitors against E6 oncoprotein of high-risk HPV-16, which is known to inactivate the p53 tumor suppressor protein. A robust homology model of HPV-16 E6 was built to anticipate the interaction mechanism of E6 oncoprotein with natural inhibitory molecules using a structure-based drug designing approach. Docking analysis showed the interaction of these natural compounds with the p53-binding site of E6 protein residues 113-122 (CQKPLCPEEK) and helped the restoration of p53 functioning. Docking analysis, besides helping in silico validation of natural compounds, also helps understand molecular mechanisms of protein-ligand interactions.
