An Adaptive Image Quality Assessment Algorithm

An improved algorithm for image quality assessment is presented. First a simple model of human visual system, consisting of a nonlinear function and a 2-D filter, processes the input images. This filter has one user-defined parameter, whose value depends on the reference image. This way the algorithm can adapt to different scenarios. In the next step the average value of locally computed correlation coefficients between the two processed images is found. This criterion is closely related to the way in which human observer assesses image quality. Finally, image quality measure is computed as the average value of locally computed correlation coefficients, adjusted by the average correlation coefficient between the reference and error images. By this approach the proposed measure differentiates between the random and signal dependant distortions, which have different effects on human observer. Performance of the proposed quality measure is illustrated by examples involving images with different types of degradation.

<P>We demonstrate a dendritic Gd(III)-DTPA derivative [Gd-DTPA-tris(2-aminoethyl) amine-D2-4Glc(OH)], containing glycoside moieties, for magnetic resonance imaging contrast agents. In vitro relaxometry and in vivo MRI studies show that the novel Gd complex can be a potential candidate for a contrast agent because of the enhanced relaxivity and tissue-selectivity, compared to the Gd(III)-DTPA complex. Thus, we envision that the dendritic modification, employed in this work, provides insight into the design of a promising candidate for novel medical contrast agents.</P>

Graphene oxide sheets (GOSs) functionalized with Europium complex was prepared using a noncovalent approach. The adsorption of Europium complexes onto GOSs, as well as the individual nature of the hybrids, was confirmed. The GOS-Europium complex hybrids and their dispersion can emit bright red luminescence, which makes them useful in many practical fields, such as biological labeling and anti-counterfeiting.
Synthesis of novel dinuclear europium dye complex for their optical properties

A novel organic ligand, 9,11,20,22-tetraaza tetrapyrido pentacene (TATPP), and the corresponding europium complex, [Eu2 (TTA)6(TATPP)] have been designed and synthesized. The results showed that [Eu2 (TTA)6(TATPP)] was a conjugated complex, emitting remarkably strong red luminescence. The lifetimes of 5D0 of Eu3+ in the complex were examined using time-resolved spectroscopic analysis; the lifetime values were 3.25x106M) Eu2 (TTA)6(TATPP) ethanol solution, respectively. Thermo gravimetric analysis showed the europium complex had good thermal stability.
A Framework for Universal Cross Layer Networks

In a resource-limited wireless communication environment, various approaches to meet the ever growing application requirements in an efficient and transparent manner, are being researched and developed. Amongst many approaches, cross layer technique is by far one of the significant contributions that has undoubtedly revolutionized the way conventional layered architecture is perceived. In this paper, we propose a Universal Cross Layer Framework based on vertical layer architecture. The primary contribution of this paper is the functional architecture of the vertical layer which is primarily responsible for cross layer interaction management and optimization. The second contribution is the use of optimization cycle that comprises awareness parameters collection, mapping, classification and the analysis phases. The third contribution of the paper is the decomposition of the parameters into local and global network perspective for opportunistic optimization. Finally, we have shown through simulations how parameters' variations can represent local and global views of the network and how we can set local and global thresholds to perform opportunistic optimization.

External ventricular drainage (EVD) is a lifesaving procedure for cerebrospinal fluid drainage in conditions such as tumor, trauma, hemorrhage, and hydrocephalus and is also used for intracranial pressure monitoring in intensive care units
