<P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>Soot particles of various organic carbon (OC) contents were generated with a triple co-flow burner. TEM images showed that the primary particle boundaries were more ambiguous when OC contents were high. A set of diode lasers of various wavelengths and a white light source were used to measure light extinction over a wide range of wavelengths (450–850nm), and the logarithm of the light intensity ratio was plotted asa function of the inverse of the various wavelengths. The slopes of the plot were taken from the both ends of the wavelength range, and their ratio was calculated. The results show that when the OC contents are high, the ratio increases to approximately 10, whereas the ratio remains nearly constant at a value of 1 when the OC contents are minimal. The analysis of the slope ratios shows that the wavelength-dependent absorption behavior of soot does not depend on the soot volume fraction or the soot particle size; rather, the slope ratio depends only on the soot’s refractive index, which in turn is related to its OC contents. In addition, the soot volume fraction and OC contents can be simultaneously identified without any chemical analysis based on the pre-determined relationship between the slope ratio and the organic fraction of soot.</P>

Odontepyris sp. nov., a new ectoparasitoid on the caterpillar of Telorta divergens (Butler, 1879) (Lepidoptera: Noctuidae), is recognized from Korea. After rearing the larvae on the host insect, adult females were obtained and described. Revising all known species of genus Odontepyris, a key to the species of the genus Odontepyris is presented for the Eastern Palearctic region.

The dependency of wavelength on the light extinction due to the presence of soot particles has been experimentally studied with ethylene and propane co-flow diffusion flames under elevated pressure conditions. The wavelength dependency was not observed at the soot oxidation/emission region: however, the weak dependency of wavelength was observed at the soot formation region in diffusion flames.

South Korean species of the bethylid wasps, genus Holepyris are reviewed. Ten species are recognized and eight of them are described as new to science: H. crinitus sp. nov., H. dimidium sp. nov., H. discedo sp. nov., H. mucro sp. nov., H. multo sp. nov., H. profundus sp. nov., H. secedo sp. nov., H. tantillus sp. nov.; Holepyris benten Terayama 2006 and H. susanowo Terayama 1999 are recorded for the first time from South Korea. Diagnostic characteristics and illustrations of each species are provided.

Light extinction characteristics of soot particles in ethylene and propane inverse diffusion flames have been experimentally investigated. The measured data suggested that the refractive index of soot particles varies with light wavelength due to PAH contents existing during the soot growth process. The results showed that the scattering effect is less important as the size of secondary particles rarely affects the optical properties of the soot even when the size is large enough to deviate from Rayleigh assumptions.
New Record of An Ectoparasitic Family Bothrideridae (Coleoptera: Cucujoidea) from Korea

As an natural enemy against the Monochamus alternatus Hope and M. saltuarius Gebler (Coleoptera: Cerambycidae), the vector species of the pine wood nematode (Bursaphelenchus xylophilus (Steiner & Buhrer), Dastarcus helophoroides (Fairmaire) (Coleoptera: Bothrideridae) is recognized for the first time in Korea. The family Bothrideridae is also reported for the first time in Korea. We provide the diagnosis, illustrations, biological information, and the host insects of D. helophoroides (Fairmaire).
용액성장법(Solution growyth technique)에 의한 ZnS nano 입자 박막성장 및 구조적, 광학적 특성

본 연구에서는 청색 발광다이오드, 광전모듈레이터, 태양전지의 창문층 등의 광범위한 응용분야를 갖는 ZnS를 용액 성장법에 의해 nanometer 사이즈의 입자로 구성된 박막의 형태로 슬라이드 유리기판에 성정하고 구조적, 광학적 특성을 분석하고, 이 결과를 토대로 ZnS 박막의 양자사이즈효과에 대해 연구하였다. 성장조건에 관련된 인자는 precursor 용액의 농도, 성장온도, 암모니아 용액의 농도, 성장시간 등이었다. X-선 회절분석 결과, 본 연구에서 용액성장법으로 성정한 ZnS 박막은 cubic 구조(B-ZnS)를 가졌다. 성장온도가 75℃일 때 막의 표면상태가 가장 양호했으며 입자사이즈의 균일도도 가장 우수했다. 광에너지 변화에 따른 광투과도 측정 결과, 본 연구의 ZnS 시료는 성장조건을 조절함에 따라 에너지밴드갭이 3.69eV to 3.91eV까지 조절할 수 있었고, 이는 벌크 ZnS의 에너지밴드갭인 3.65eV보다 훨씬 높은 수치로서 양자사이즈효과에 의한 blue-shift 현상이 용액성장법으로 합성된 ZnS에서 큰 폭으로 나타남을 알 수 있었다. 그리고 Photoluminesence(PL) 측정 결과 ZnS 입자의 미세성으로 인한 입자 표면주위의 영향으로 PL 피크가 에너지밴드갭보다 훨씬 적은 에너지 영여겡서 발생했다. 특히 PL피크의 위치가 입자사이즈와 막두께에 따라 shift했는데, 이는 용액성장법으로 성장한 ZnS의 경우 본 연구에서 최초로 보고되는 것이다. In this study, the ZnS nanosized thin films that could be used for fabrication of blue light-emitting diodes, electro-optic modulators, and n-window layers of solar cells were grown by the solution growth technique (SGT), and their structural and optical properties were examined. Based on these results, the quantum size effects of ZnS were systematically investigated. Governing factors related to the growth condition were the concentration of precursor solution, growth temperature, concentration of aq.ammonia, and growth duration. X-ray diffraction patterns showed that the ZnS this film obtained in this study had the cubic structure (B-ZnS). When the growth temperature was 75℃, the surface morphology and the grain size uniformity were the best. The enerby band gaps of samples were determined from the optical transmittance valued, and were shown to vary from 3.69eV to 3.91eV. These values were substantially higher than 3.65eV of bulk ZnS, demonstrating that the quantum size effect of SGT grown ZnS is remarkable. Photoluminesence (PL) peaks were observed at the positions corresponding to the lower energy than that to energy band gap, illustrating that the surface states were induced by the ultra-fineness of grains in ZnS films. Particularly, for the first tiem, it is reported for the SGT grown ZnS that the PL peaks were shifted depending of the grain size.
High Level of Real Urban Air Pollution Promotes Cardiac Arrhythmia in Healthy Mice

Background and Objectives: Ambient particulate matter (PM) in real urban air pollution (RUA) is an environmental health risk factor associated with increased cardiac events. This study investigated the threshold level to induce arrhythmia, as well as arrhythmogenic mechanism of RUA that mainly consisted of PM <2.5 μm in aerodynamic diameter close to ultrafine particles. Methods: RUA was artificially produced by a lately developed pyrolysis based RUA generator. C57BL/6 mice were divided into 4 groups: a control group (control, n=12) and three groups with exposure to RUA with the concentration of 200 µg/m3 (n=12), 400 µg/m3 (n=12), and 800 µg/m3 (n=12). Mice were exposed to RUA at each concentration for 8 hr/day and 5 day/week to mimic ordinary human activity during 3 weeks. Results: The QRS and QTc intervals, as well as intracellular Ca2+ duration, apicobasal action potential duration (APD) gradient, fibrosis, and inflammation of left ventricle of mouse hearts were increased dose-dependently with the increase of RUA concentration, and significantly increased at RUA concentration of 400 µg/m3 compared to control (all p<0.001). In mice exposed to RUA concentration of 800 µg/m3, spontaneous ventricular arrhythmia was observed in 42%, with significant increase of inflammatory markers, phosphorylated Ca2+/calmodulin-dependent protein kinase II (CaMKII), and phospholamban (PLB) compared to control. Conclusions: RUA could induce electrophysiological changes such as APD and QT prolongation, fibrosis, and inflammation dose-dependently, with significant increase of ventricular arrhythmia at the concentration of 400 µg/m3. RUA concentration of 800 µg/m3 increased phosphorylation of CaMKII and PLB.
Static and Dynamic Analysis of Android Malware and Goodware Written with Unity Framework

<P><I>Unity</I> is the most popular cross-platform development framework to develop games for multiple platforms such as Android, iOS, and Windows Mobile. While Unity developers can easily develop mobile apps for multiple platforms, adversaries can also easily build malicious apps based on the “<I>write once, run anywhere</I>” (WORA) feature. Even though malicious apps were discovered among<I> Android apps written with Unity framework (Unity apps)</I>, little research has been done on analysing the malicious apps. We propose static and dynamic reverse engineering techniques for malicious Unity apps. We first inspect the executable file format of a Unity app and present an effective static analysis technique of the Unity app. Then, we also propose a systematic technique to analyse dynamically the Unity app. Using the proposed techniques, the malware analyst can statically and dynamically analyse Java code, native code in C or C ++, and the Mono runtime layer where the C# code is running.</P>
