Induction Motor Control System Using Bidirectional Quasi-Z Source Inverter

This paper describes a detailed operation analysis, proposed dc side control strategy, and implementation of the BQ-ZSI (bidirectional quasi-Z-source inverter) for electric vehicle applications. The power flow can be bidirectional by connecting an active switch antiparallel with the diode in BQ-ZSI. The performance of the inverter under load variation can be improved by inserting an inner current control loop of the inductor in the QZSN side controller. Thus, a dedicated voltage controller with inductor current controller is designed to reject the disturbance and stabilize the dc-link voltage during a nonshoot through state. A 5-kW prototype has been built. Both simulation and experimental results are presented to verify the validity of the circuit and the effectiveness of the proposed control strategy.
The Roles of Switching Costs, Satisfaction, and Trust in the Lodging Customer Retention Process

숙박 산업에서 소비자의 의사결정 시 금전적 전환비용과 비금전적 전환 비용의 구체적 역할의 이해가 다소 명확하지 않은 실정이다. 또한, 호텔 소비자의 의사결정 과정에서 만족, 신뢰, 그리고 금전적/비금전적 전환비용을 함께 고찰하는 연구는 거의 이루어지고 있지 않다. 이러한 문제의식을 바탕으로, 본 연구는 금전적/비금전적 전환비용의 조절효과를 고려한 만족 및 신뢰가 고객의 재구매 의도에 미치는 영향에 대하여 고찰하였다. 연구의 목적을 달성하기 위하여, 온라인 설문조사가 시행되었으며, 구조방정식 모형(SEM)과 측정의 동일성 검증이 사용되었다. SEM 결과, 만족, 신뢰, 그리고 재구매의도 간 관계가 긍정적으로 유의하게 나타났으며, 신뢰는 유의한 매개 역할을 하였다. 측정의 동일성 모델 검증 결과, 금전적 전환비용은 만족과 신뢰가 재구매 의도에 미치는 영향에 유의한 조절효과를 나타내었고, 비금전적 전환비용은 만족-의도 관계의 유의한 조절효과를 보여주었다. 이러한 결과들은 전환비용이 높은 집단이 낮은 집단에 비해 각 변수 간 관계를 더욱 강하게 만들고 있음을 보여주었다. 마지막으로, 학문적 실무적 시사점 및 향후 연구가 논의되었다.
The Effect of Body Mass Index on Intra-Abdominal Pressure and Blood Loss in Lumbar Spine Surgery

Objective : The purpose of this prospective study was to evaluate the effects of body mass index (BMI) on intra-abdominal pressure (IAP) and intraoperative blood loss (IBL) during lumbar spinal surgery. Methods : Thirty patients scheduled for single level posterior lumbar interbody fusion were allocated equally to a normal group (Group 1, BMI;$18.5-22.9kg/m^2$), an overweight group (Group 2, BMI; $23-24.9kg/m^2$), and an obese group (Group 3, BMI; $25.0-29.9kg/m^2$) according to BMI. IAP was measured using a urinary bladder catheter; 1) supine after anesthesia induction, 2) prone at skin incision, 3) prone at the end of surgery. In addition, IBL was also measured in the three groups. Results : IAP in the supine position was not significantly different in groups 1, 2, and 3 (2.7 mm Hg, 3.0 mm Hg, and 4.2 mm Hg, respectively) ($p$=0.258), and IAP in the prone position at incision increased to 7.8 mm Hg, 8.2 mm Hg, and 10.4 mm Hg, respectively, in the three groups, and these intergroup differences were significant, especially for Group 3 ($p$=0.000). IAP at the end of surgery was slightly lower (7.0 mm Hg, 7.7 mm Hg, and 9.2 mm Hg, respectively). IBLs were not significantly different between the three groups. However, IBLs were found to increase with IAP in the prone position ($p$=0.022) and BMI ($p$<0.05). Conclusion : These results show that BMI affects IAP in the prone position more than in the supine position during lumbar spinal surgery. In addition, IBLs were found to increase with IAP in the prone position and with BMI. Thus, IBLs can be expected to be higher in morbidly obese patients due to an increased IAP.

This paper proposes a 3 kW single-phase bi-directional multi-level converter for energy storage applications. The proposed topology is based on the H-bridge structure with four switches connected to the DC-link. A simple phase opposition disposition PWM method that requires only one carrier signal is also suggested. The switching sequence to balance the capacitor voltage is considered. The topology can be extended to a nine-level converter or a three-phase system. The operating principle of the proposed converter is verified through a simulation and an experiment.
Skin rejuvenating effects of chemical peeling: a study in photoaged hairless mice

<P><B>Abstract</B></P><P><B>Background </B> Chemical peeling is a dermatologic treatment for skin aging. However, the mechanism by which the chemical peel achieves its results is not clear. We investigated the effects of chemical peeling and the mechanism of wrinkle reduction in photoaged hairless mice skin.</P><P><B>Methods </B> After inducing photoaged skin in hairless mice by repetitive ultraviolet‐B irradiation applied over 14 weeks, we applied trichloroacetic acid (TCA) 30%, TCA 50%, and phenol on areas of the same size on the backs of the mice. Punch biopsies were obtained 7, 14, 28, and 60 days after the procedure for histologic and immunohistochemical analyses.</P><P><B>Results </B> Histologic examination showed an increase in dermal thickness, collagen fibers, and elastic fibers in the dermis of intervention groups compared with control groups. These increases were maintained significantly for 60 days.</P><P><B>Conclusions </B> This study demonstrates that chemical peeling reduces wrinkles and regenerates skin by increasing dermal thickness and the amount of collagen and elastic fibers in photoaged skin.</P>

Vital Predictors of Hotel Guests’ Decision to Engage in Word-of-Mouth Behavior

Little research has examined the role of service encounter as a primary factor/single independent variable in explaining Word-of-Mouth (WOM) formation in the hotel industry. In addition, previous research has not specifically identified whether high/low level of perceived switching barriers, satisfaction, trust, and commitment maximizes/minimizes the effect of the quality of service encounter on WOM. In the present study, these gaps were successfully explored by empirically testing the proposed theoretical framework. Findings from the structural model indicated that our proposed conceptual framework satisfactorily fit the data; the prominent role of service encounter in the formation of WOM was identified; and the mediating effects of positive and negative switching barriers, satisfaction, trust, and commitment on the likelihood of generating favorable WOM were empirically verified. Overall, the complicated interrelationships among the study constructs have been fully identified. Findings of the present study, evoked from a survey at mid-scale hotels, imply that to achieve recommendation/favorable WOM, hotel marketers need to pay special attention to the enhancement of the quality of service encounter, the active generation of switching barriers, and the increase of satisfaction, trust, and commitment. 호텔 산업에서 고객들의 구전효과 형성을 설명하는 핵심 선행변수로써, ‘서비스 인카운터’의 역할에 대한 연구는 매우 빈약한 실정이다. 또한, 호텔 고객들이 느끼는 심리적 전환장벽, 고객만족도, 신뢰, 그리고 충성도가 구전효과에 미치는 영향력은 아직 검증되지 않았다. 이러한 선행연구들의 한계점들을 보완하고자, 본 연구는 충실한 이론적 배경을 바탕으로 9개의 연구가설들을 도출하였으며, 이를 바탕으로 구조모델이 탄생하였다. 도출된 연구가설과 구조모델은 212명의 호텔고객들로부터 수거된 경험적 데이터를 활용해 검증하였다. 확인적 요인분석 결과에 의하면, 본 연구에서 제시된 연구 개념들은 모두 일차원적 개념(uni-dimensional construct)임이 입증되었으며, 모델 적합도도 수용할만한 것으로 나타났다. 구조방정식 모델분석 결과에 의하면, ‘서비스 인카운터’가 호텔고객들의 구전효과 형성에 결정적인 역할을 하며, 이 과정에서 긍정적/부정적 전환장벽은 매개변수의 역할을 하는 것으로 나타났다. 분석결과를 종합하였을 때, 고객들의 긍정적인 추천과 구전효과를 이끌어내기 위해서는 호텔 마케터들이 ‘서비스인카운터’를 제고하려는 노력을 기울여야 하며, 고객들의 심리적 전환장벽을 적절히 활용하고, 고객만족과 신뢰를 형성하는 것이 중요하다는 것을 시사한다. 이를 바탕으로 구체적인 실무적/이론적 시사점들이 심도있게 논의되었다.
