<P>A novel five-mask low-temperature polycrystalline silicon (LTPS) CMOS structure was verified by manufacturing the thin-film transistor test samples using the proposed five-mask LTPS CMOS process. In integrating the five-mask CMOS structure, a selective contact barrier metal formation process was developed, without additional photomask steps, to solve the issue of high-contact-resistance problem encountered inevitably in the contact between the indium tin oxide and doped polycrystalline silicon (poly-Si) source-drain layers. The five-mask CMOS technology was also confirmed by manufacturing a five-mask CMOS panel for the active-matrix liquid-crystal-display application.</P>

<P>Radiation therapy and chemotherapy have little effect on renal-cell carcinomas (RENCAs). We investigated the effect of the tumor vaccination strategy on preventing tumor formation after a challenge with RENCA. The hepatitis surface antigen (HBsAg) was used to enhance the antitumor immunity and tumor vaccination efficiency. RENCA cells expressing HBsAg (RENCA/HBS) were completely susceptible to HBsAg vaccination, which implies that HBsAg vaccination induces specific antitumor immunity against HBsAg- expressing cancer cells. As with HBsAg vaccination, vaccination with irradiated RENCA/HBS retarded tumor formation following a RENCA/HBS challenge. After HBsAg vaccination, the irradiated RENCA/HBS tumor vaccine completely prevented the tumor formation by RENCA/HBS. Tumor vaccination with irradiated RENCA/HBS (5 x 10(4) cells), but not with RENCA, reduced the tumor rate after a challenge with 5 x 10(6) RENCA cells, whereas a lower tumor load was overcome by the RENCA vaccination alone. These results confirm the postulate that RENCA/HBS vaccination elicits an antitumor immune response to some putative antigens or enhances the general immune competence in immunosuppressed renal tumor patients.</P>

<P>A new high efficiency active clamp forward converter for the sustaining power module of a plasma display panel is proposed. It features zero voltage switching, a simpler structure, lower cost, less mass, and no effective duty loss. Furthermore, voltages across all rectifier diodes are clamped on the output voltage, which results in higher efficiency.</P>
Analysis and Evaluation of a BJT-Based 1T-DRAM

<P>A BJT-based 1T-DRAM that utilizes a latch process is analyzed in an experimental assessment. The experimental study reveals that undesired activation of a parasitic BJT by a high leakage current inhibits aggressive scaling of a BJT-based 1T-DRAM. Given the importance of choosing proper operation biases, the drain voltage that triggers the latch process in the BJT-based 1T-DRAM should be reduced to avoid unwanted parasitic BJT activation. Hence, a heterogeneous source and drain is proposed to ensure the energy bandgap offset to silicon channel. A numerical evaluation confirms that a heterogeneous source and drain embedded structure is a promising candidate for high-density and low-power DRAM technologies.</P>

<P>This letter is aimed at experimentally investigating the fin width (W<SUB>fin</SUB>) dependence of both a dopant-segregated Schottky-barrier (DSSB) and a conventional FinFET SONOS device with diffused p-n junctions for application of a NOR-type flash memory device. High parasitic resistance (R<SUB>para</SUB>) at the source/drain by a narrowed W<SUB>fin</SUB> results in degradation of memory performance for the conventional FinFET SONOS device. In contrast, it is shown that a narrow W<SUB>fin</SUB> significantly improves the memory performance for the DSSB FinFET SONOS device, resulting from an improved lateral electric field without a significant change of the R<SUB>para</SUB> value.</P>

<P>We have systematically designed and realized the optical feedforward transmitter using microwave circuit model of distributed-feedback laser diode (DFB LD) based on rate equations. Through the system-level simulation for the optical feedforward method, the nonlinearity of DFB-LD is analyzed, and the optimized characteristics of the RF components in the system are confirmed by using a microwave simulator. The experimental and simulated results show the reduced distortion products and enhanced spurious-free dynamic ranges are in good agreement at 2.4 GHz. These results are analyzed as the evaluation parameters for the miniaturization and optimization of the feedforward compensation method in radio-over-fiber systems. © 2008 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Background: The ideal alternative airway device should be intuitive to use, yielding proficiency after only a few trials. The Clarus Video System (CVS) is a novel optical stylet with a semi-rigid tip; however, the learning curve and associated orodental trauma are poorly understood. Methods: Two novice practitioners with no CVS experience performed 30 intubations each. Each trial was divided into learning (first 10 intubations) and standard phases (remaining 20 intubations). Total time to achieve successful intubation, number of intubation attempts, ease of use, and orodental trauma were recorded. Results: Intubation was successful in all patients. In 51 patients (85%), intubation was accomplished in the first attempt. Nine patients required two or three intubation attempts; six were with the first 10 patients. Learning and standard phases differed significantly in terms of success at first attempt, number of attempts, and intubation time (70% vs. 93%, $1.4 {\pm}0.7$ vs. $1.1{\pm}0.3$, and $71.4{\pm}92.3s$ vs. $24.6{\pm}21.9s$, respectively). The first five patients required longer intubation times than the subsequent five patients ($106.8{\pm}120.3s$ vs. $36.0{\pm}26.8s$); however, the number of attempts was similar. Sequential subgroups of five patients in the standard phase did not differ in the number of attempts or intubation time. Dental trauma, lip laceration, or mucosal bleeding were absent. Conclusions: Ten intubations are sufficient to learn CVS utilization properly without causing any orodental trauma. A relatively small number of experiences are required in the learning curve compared with other devices.
