Sadia Nawaz Cheema 이화여자대학교 아시아여성학센터 2016 이화여자대학교 아시아여성학센터 학술대회자료집 Vol.2016 No.7

In this paper I am very much envisioned to share my duties in Voice and Accountability Program that is called “Aawaz Program” in Pakistan. The one of the top and most prioritized output is: “Women’s safe participation in political and public spheres” As a woman team member I am responsible to take lead for this specific and leading output of Aawaz program. I will share my challenges to lead this output of the program in District Gujranwala. Whereas I will also share my strategies to address the challenges to sensitize the communities especially women of Gujranwala district of the Province Punjab. I will focus on the achievements of struggling part of the society that is engaged in Aawaz Program. On the other hand I am intended to draw an attention note on institutional mind set and approach towards women rights in Pakistan especially in District Gujranwala that is purely male chauvinistic as this is in full influence of different religious groups. I will also share how I dealt with this challenges and got successes to put a very small amount of the citizenry on route towards women’s safe participation in Political and public spheres.

      • Somatic JAK-2 V617F Mutational Analysis in Polycythemia Rubra Vera: a Tertiary Care Center Experience

Sultan, Sadia,Irfan, Syed Mohammed,Khan, Sadia Rashid Asian Pacific Journal of Cancer Prevention 2016 Asian Pacific journal of cancer prevention Vol.17 No.3

Background: Polycythemia rubra vera (PV), being a primary polycythemia, is caused by neoplastic proliferation of erythroid, megakaryocytic and granulocytic lineages which result in panmyelosis. PV patients have a somatic acquired mutation in the Janus kinase (JAK2) pathway, rendering cell proliferation independent of the normal regulatory mechanisms that regulate erythropoiesis. The rational of this study was to determine the prevalence of the JAK-2 V617F mutation in Pakistani patients with PV. Materials and Methods: In this cross sectional study, 26 patients with PV were enrolled from January 2010 to December 2014. Patients were diagnosed based on WHO criteria for PV. All were screened for G-T point mutation (V617F) in the JAK2 gene on chromosome 9 by an allele specific PCR. Results: The mean age was $53.4{\pm}9.31years$ (range 36-72) and the male to female ratio was 2:1. The frequency of JAK2 V617F positivity in our PV patients was found to be 92.3%. Overall 30.7% of patients were asymptomatic and remaining 69.3% presented with symptomatic disease. The mean hemoglobin was $18.1{\pm}1.9g/dl$ with the mean hematocrit of $55.6{\pm}8.3%$. The mean total leukocyte count was $12.8{\pm}7.1{\times}10^9/l$ and the platelet count was $511{\pm}341.9{\times}10^9/l$. A positive correlation of JAK2 V617F mutation was established with high TLC count (P=0.01). No correlation of JAK2 V617F could be established with age or gender (P>0.05). Conclusions: The JAK2 V617F mutation frequency in our PV patients was similar to those reported internationally. Screening for the mutation in all suspected PV cases could be beneficial in differentiating patients with reactive and clonal erythrocytosis.

Electrical conductivity and dielectric properties of sulfamic acid doped polyaniline

        Sadia Ameen,Vazid Ali,M. Zulfequar,M. Mazharul Haq,M. Husain 한국물리학회 2007 Current Applied Physics Vol.7 No.2

The temperature and frequency dependence of dielectric constant (e0) and dielectric loss (e00) is studied for dierent samples of poly-aniline (PANI), doped with dierent concentration of sulfamic acid in the frequency range (10100 kHz) and temperature range (300by the propagation of polaron through a conjugated polymer chain due to shifting of double bonds (alternation), which gives rise toelectrical conduction.

Phytochemical and biological investigations of Polygonum lanatum

        Sadia A Chowdhury,Mohammad H Sohrab,Mohammad R Haque,Choudhury M Hasan,Mohammad A Rashid 경희대학교 융합한의과학연구소 2008 Oriental Pharmacy and Experimental Medicine Vol.8 No.1

A total of five compounds namely, 2-methylanthracene-9, 10-dione (1), 1-hydroxy-6- methylanthracene-9,10-dione (2), β-sitosterol (3), stigmasterol (4) and sitosterone (5) were isolated from the stem extracts of Polygonum lanatum for the first time. The structures of the isolated compounds (1-5) were established by extensive spectroscopic studies, including 2D NMR such as 1H-1H COSY, HSQC and HMBC studies. The crude extracts and purified compound (1) were screened for antimicrobial activity against a wide range of Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria and fungi by the disc diffusion method. The n-hexane and dichloromethane soluble partitionates of the methanolic extract revealed mild to moderate inhibition of growth of the test organisms. The cytotoxic potential of the extractives and compound 1 was also determined by using brine shrimp lethality bioassay, where the extractives demonstrated significant cytotoxic activities. Preparation and measurements of electrical and spectroscopic properties of sodium thiosulphate doped polyaniline

        Sadia Ameen,Vazid Ali,M. Zulfequar,M. Mazharul Haq,M. Husain 한국물리학회 2009 Current Applied Physics Vol.9 No.3

Polyaniline has been synthesized and is doped with sodium thiosulphate. The doping of polyaniline (PANI) is done at two different time periods and DC conductivity is measured to see the effect of dopant. It has been observed that the crystallinity of PANI increases through doping which ultimately increases the conductivity. The conductivity result shows that the conduction is taking place through hopping process due to wide range of localized states present near the fermi level. Structural changes due to interaction of dopant species with PANI are studied through FTIR. Polyaniline has been synthesized and is doped with sodium thiosulphate. Effect of Dietary Supplementation of Bioactive Peptides on Antioxidant Potential of Broiler Breast Meat and Physicochemical Characteristics of Nuggets

        Sadia Aslam,Rizwan Shukat,Muhammad Issa Khan,Muhammad Shahid 한국축산식품학회 2020 한국축산식품학회지 Vol.40 No.1

Poultry meat is generally exposed to quality deterioration due to lipid oxidation during storage. Oxidative stability of meat can be increased by feed supplementation. Aim of the current study was to investigate the effect of dietary supplementation of fish waste derived bioactive peptides on antioxidant potential of broiler breast meat and physico-chemical characteristics and quality parameters of nuggets prepared from breast meat. 180 broiler birds (six groups of 30 birds) were purchased. Each group was given different concentrations of bioactive peptides i.e. 0, 50, 100, 150, 200, and 250 mg/kg feed. After completion of six weeks birds were slaughtered and breast meat was stored at –18℃ for six months. Nuggets were prepared and stored at –18℃ for 45 days. Meat samples were analyzed for antioxidant activity [total phenolic contents (TPC), DPPH• scavenging activity, and ferric reducing antioxidant power] and lipid oxidation assay at regular intervals of 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, and 6 months while nuggets were analyzed for quality (pH, color, texture and water holding capacity) parameters after regular interval of 15 days. A significant (p<0.05) effect of feed supplementation was observed on antioxidant status such as TPC, DPPH• scavenging activity, and FRAP of broiler breast meat. Dietary interventions of bioactive peptides significantly (p<0.05) delayed lipid oxidation of breast meat than control. All the quality parameters were also significantly affected due to dietary bioactive peptides and storage duration. Thus, dietary interventions of bioactive peptides can increase the antioxidant and shelf stability of broiler breast meat and nuggets.

Plant Root Hair in Tap Water: A Potential Cause for Diagnostic Confusion

        Sadia Shakoor,Mohammad Wasay,Afia Zafar,Mohammad Asim Beg 대한진단검사의학회 2011 Annals of Laboratory Medicine Vol.31 No.1

Plant root hairs are commonly found artifacts in parasitology specimens and may be confused with helminthes by an untrained eye. We report a case of brain tuberculoma where the tissue sample was contaminated with root hair derived from tap water; the presence of this root hair, which mimicked a larva, led to diagnostic confusion. Therefore, tap water should be considered a source of root hair and vegetable matter.
