A field study on self trap cropping system in controlling tukra mealy bug Maconellicoccus hirsutus Green) incidence on mulberry (Morus spp.; V-1 variety; 3`x3` spacing) gardens was undertaken in selected sericulture farmers` mulberry gardens of Pydeti village (Parigi Mandal, Anantapur District, Andhra Pradesh, India). The study was conducted for three years (2004, 2005 and 2006). Four treatments (T0; control/no treatment, T1; self trap cropping rows with 10 row interval, T2; self trap cropping rows with 10 row interval and treating these rows only with 0.5% neem oil emulsion and T3; self trap cropping rows with 10 rows intervals and treating all the mulberry rows including self trap cropping rows with 0.5% neem oil emulsion) were considered. The results indicated that the incidence increased in T0 and T1 while the same suppressed in T2 and T3. The suppression (%) of tukra incidence between T2 and T3 was not significant. Hence, T2 only was recommended to farmers as its economical viable practice. The results are discussed based on the importance of tukra, its suppression and cost of treatment.

Novel dual responsive pectin hydrogels composed from poly(acrylamidoglycolic acid-co-vinylcaprolactam)/Pectin (PAV-PC) and also PAV-PC hydrogels are used as templates for the production of silver nanoparticles. 5-Fluorouracil is an anticancer drug and has been loaded in situ into PAV-PC hydrogels. Structure and morphology characterization of PAV-PC hydrogels were investigated by fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, differential scanning calorimetry, thermo gravimetric analysis, X-ray diffraction studies, scanning electron microscopy and transmission electron microscopy. The results revealed a molecular level dispersion of the drug in PAV-PC hydrogels. In vitro release of 5-fluorouracil from the PAV-PC hydrogels has been carried out in GIT fluids as well as in various temperatures. 5-Fluorouracil released from PAV-PC hydrogels was 50% at pH 1.2, and 85% at pH 7.4 within 24 h. The release profile was characterized with PAV-PC hydrogels and initial burst effect was significantly reduced in two buffer media (1.2 and 7.4), followed by a continuous and controlled release phase, the drug release mechanism from polymer was due to Fickian diffusion. In situ fabrication of silver nanoparticles inside the hydrogel network via the reduction of sodium borohydrate by PAV-PC chains led to hydrogel nanocomposites. The diameter of the nanocomposites was about 50-100 nm, suitable for uptake within the gastrointestinal tract due to their nanosize range and mucoadhesive properties. These nanocomposite PAV-PC hydrogels showed strong antimicrobial activity towards Bacillus subtilis (G+ve) and Escherichia coli (G-ve).

Purpose: To study the effects of long-term treatment with potassium magnesium citrateand vitamin B-6 prophylaxis (Urikind-KM6; 1,100-mg potassium citrate, 375-mg magnesiumcitrate, and 20-mg pyridoxine hydrochloride/5 mL) every 8 hours over 3 years. Materials and Methods: A total of 247 patients with recurrent idiopathic hypocitraturiawith or without hyperuricosuria and randomized controls were studied prospectivelyfor 3 years. The total patients were divided into three groups. Control group 1 consistedof 61 patients (24.7%) who had moderate to severe hypocitraturia with or without hyperuricosuriaand were recurrent stone formers but discontinued prophylaxis because ofdrug intolerance within 1 month of therapy. Control group 2 constituted 53 patients(21.5%) who were first-time stone formers and who had mild hypocitraturia with orwithout hyperuricosuria and were not put on prophylactic therapy and were followedfor 3.16±0.08 years. Control group 3 constituted 133 patients (54.8%) who were recurrentstone formers who had moderate to severe hypocitraturia with or without hyperuricosuriaand were put on prophylaxis therapy and were followed for 3.16±0.08years. All patients were followed up at 6-month intervals. Results: Potassium magnesium citrate prophylaxis produced a sustained increase in24-hour urinary citrate excretion from initially low values (221.79±13.39 mg/dL) towithin normal to high limits (604.04±5.00 mg/dL) at the 6-month follow-up. UrinarypH rose significantly from 5.62±0.2 to 6.87±0.01 and was maintained at 6.87±0.01. Thestone recurrence rate declined from 3.23±1.04 per patient per year to 0.35±0.47 per patientper year. Conclusions: Potassium magnesium citrate prophylaxis was effective in reducing therecurrence of calcium oxalate and phosphate urolithiasis.

Chitosan (CS) and hydroxypropylmethyl cellulose (HPMC) blend microspheres were prepared by water-in-oil emulsion technique and were loaded with an anti-cancer drug 5-fluorouracil (5-FU). CS-HPMC microspheres were characterized by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy to confirm the cross-linking reaction. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) was also used to assess the surface morphology of particles prepared. The quantity of release of 5-FU from the microspheres have been studied in terms of blend composition and amount of cross-linking agent. Differential scanning calorimetry and X-ray diffraction techniques indicated a uniform distribution of 5-FU particles in microspheres, whereas SEM suggested the spherical structure of the microspheres with slight rough surface. The in vitro drug release indicated that the particle size and release kinetics depend upon blend composition, amount of cross-linking agent used and amount of 5-FU present in the microspheres.

The main aim of the present paper is to establish conditions of orthogonality for symmetric reverse biderivations and symmetric generalized reverse biderivations in R.
Unusual Penetrating Injury to the Male Genitalia

Various self-inflicted foreign bodies have been removed from the lower urinary tract and external male genitalia. In many cases foreign bodies were inserted or applied for autoerotic reasons which are frequently associated with mental health disorders. Here the author reports an unusual case of self insertion of a 6-cm long metal needle at penoscrotal junction of the erect penis for sexual pleasure. The stitching needle was inserted by a 20-year old male who was too ashamed to admit the motive at first. The caudal end of the needle was palpable at the root of the penis as it was below the urogenital diaphragm. The needle was successfully removed under fluoroscopic guidance with minor surgical exploration and with no complications.

<P>To make quantum-dot sensitized solar cells (QDSSCs) competitive, photovoltaic parameters such as the power conversion efficiency (PCE) and fill factor (FF) must become comparable to those of other emerging solar cell technologies. In the present study, a novel strategy has been successfully developed for a highly efficient surface-modified platinum (Pt) counter electrode (CE) with high catalytic activity and long-term stability in a polysulfide redox electrolyte. The reinforcement of the Pt surface was performed using a thin passivating layer of CuS, NiS, or CoS by simple chemical bath deposition techniques. This method was a more efficient method for reducing the electron recombination in QDSSCs. The optimized Pt/CuS CE shows a very low charge transfer resistance of 37.01 Omega, which is an order of magnitude lower than those of bare Pt (86.32 Omega), Pt/NiS (53.83 Omega), and Pt/CoS (73.51 Omega) CEs. Therefore, the Pt/CuS CEs show much greater catalytic activity in the polysulfide redox electrolyte than Pt, Pt/NiS and Pt/CoS CEs. As a result, under one-sun illumination (AM 1.5G, 100 mW cm(-2)), the Pt/CuS CE exhibits a PCE of 4.32%, which is higher than the values of 1.77%, 2.95%, and 3.25% obtained with bare Pt, Pt/CoS, and Pt/NiS CEs, respectively. The performance of the Pt/CuS CE was enhanced by the improved current density, Cu vacancies with increased S composition, and surface morphology, which enable rapid electron transport and lower the electron recombination rate for the polysulfide electrolyte redox couple. Electrochemical impedance spectroscopy and Tafel polarization revealed that the hybrid CEs reduce interfacial recombination and exhibit better electrochemical and photovoltaic performance compared with a bare Pt CE. The Pt/CuS CE also shows superior stability in the polysulfide electrolyte in a working state for over 10 h, resulting in a long-term electrode stability than Pt CE.</P>
