Incidence of avian infectious diseases in breeder chickens was followed serologically. Serum samples were collected during the period of 1978~1979 from breeders throughout country and tested for the presence of antibodies against Salmonella pullorum(SP), Mycoplasma gallisepticum(MG), Avian Infectious Bronchitis virus(AIBV), Infectious Bursal Disease virus(IBDV) and Egg Drop Syndrome Virus(EDS). The tests used serum plate agglutination for SP and MG, immuno-diffusion for AIBV and IBDV and hemagglutination-inhibition test for EDS virus. The results are summarized as follows: 1. Individuals and Hocks incidence rate of Avian Infectious Bronchitis virus were 16.9% and 55.3%. 2. Individuals and Hocks incidence rate of Infectious Bursal Disease virus were 50.1% and 66.4%. 3. Individuals and Hocks incidence rate of sal. pullorum were 17.2% and 65.9%. 4. Individuals and flocks incidence rate of M. gallisepticum were 36.2% and 63.2%. 5. Individuals and flocks incidence rate of Egg Drop Syndrome (BC 14) virus were 14.1% and 46.3%.

This experiment was conducted to investigate current situation and plant grouping by light and watering of mingled several cacti and succulents in a pot. The main 11 cacti are consist of Myrtillocactus geometrizans (Mart.) Cons., Gymnocalycium mihanovichii var. friedrichii Werd., Marginatocereus marginatus(DC.) Backbg., Eriocactus leninghausii (Hge. Jr.) Backbg, Notocactus scopa (Spreng.) Berg., Lobivia nealeana Backbg., Mammillaria elongata var. intertexta (DC.) SD., Pseudoespostoa (Vp1.) Backbg., Mammillaria albilanata Backbg., Mammillaria klissingiana Bod. and Espostoa lanata (HBK.) Br. & R. The main 10 succulents are Kalanchoe thyrsifolia Harv., Portulacaria afra var. foliis-variegatis Jacobs., Crassula perforata Thunbg., Echeveria pulvinata Rose, Aeonium arboreum cv. atropurpureum., Echeveria lauii Moran & J. Meyran, Pachypodium lamerei Drake, Sedum rubrotinctum cv. Aurora Boom., Aloe mitriformis Mill., and Euphorbia coerulescens Haw. The cacti were native to Mexico, Brazil, Peru, Paraguay, Ecuador, etc. The sucullents were native to Mexico, Africa, Gran Canaria, Madagascar, etc. Most of all the cacti and sucullents in the experiment are growing well under full sun or light shade, however Portulacaria afra var. foliis-variegatis Jacobs, and Sedum rubrotinctum cv. Aurora Boom. did not influenced by light. And all the plants require a little or moderate watering. Thus, planting by similar required water and light, when growing in a pot of several cacti and succulents, might be decreased the rate of death causing by their different plant physiology.

For the preparation of an effective fowl pox vaccine, comparative studies of a number of fowl and pigeon pox virus strains were accomplished, and the following conclusions were made. 1. Anyang-Nakano strain which was nation widely used as a seed virus of fowl pox vaccine was proven its inadequacy. 2. A liquid vaccine prepared with Minnesota strain of pigeon pox virus showed its stability for 6 months and on side reaction.

In studies on Haemophilus infection of pigs, a series of investigation were made including on bacterial isolation, biochemical properties, antibody survey, and antimicrobial susceptibility test. Twenty-six isolates of H. pleuropneumoniae were isolated, 16 from 106 cases of porcine nasal swab and 10 from 48 cases of porcine pleuropneumonic lung, respectively. Also, 9 isolates of H. parasuis were isolated, 7 from nasal swab and 2 from lung, respectively. Therefore, a total of 35 isolates(22.7%) of Haemophilus spp. were isolated from 154 cases, but none of H. suis was isolated. The differentiation of H. pleuropneumoniae and H. parasuis could be made by means of urease and CAMP test. In tube agglutination test, the serum positive ratio were 58.5%(274) in 468 growing pigs, 86.8%(46) in 53 sows against H. pleuropneumoniae, and 52.8%(247) in 468 growing pigs, 79.2%(42) in 53 sows against H. parasuis, respectively. The cross reaction among H. pleuropneumoniae, H. parasais and H. suis were not observed in tube agglutination test. All isolates of H. pleuropneumoniae and H. parasuis were found to be highly susceptible to ampicillin, carbenicillin, cephalothin, chloramphenicol, colistin, tetracycline and linsmycin.

A lot of folcks of guinea fowls showed clinical signs such as 30 to 40% decrease in egg production, loss of appetite, greenish water diarrhea and 15% mortality in Anyang, Kyonggi province. The Hemagglutination Inhibition(HI) titers of the sera submitted from guinea fowl flocks at 16 months age which were no vaccination to Newcastle Disease were 5.6 log2 and 6.6 log2, respectively. Newcastle disease viruses from guinea fowl which were submitted for diagnostic service at our laboratory were isolated for the first time Korea from 2 guinea fowls. The result of HI titers from live B1 vaccination at 10-15 age and 26-31 age of young guinea fowls were 4.41 log2 and 5.41 log2. It is emphasized that guinea fowl as well as chicken should be vaccinated to prevent spreading of Newcastle disease.
