        The Effects of Triton X-100 and Tween 80 Surfactants on the Thermal Performance of a Nano-Lubricant: An Experimental Study

        In this experimental study, experiments were carried out using a nano-lubricant consisting of polyol ester (POE)—titanium dioxide (TiO2)—surfactant instead of POE oil used in the compressor in a refrigeration system cycle test apparatus. The main aim of the study was to provide more efficient operation of the refrigeration system. Triton X100 (TX-100) and sorbitan polyoxyethylene monooleate (Tween 80) were used as the surface-active material. Nano-lubricants were formed by mixing TiO2 nanoparticles with POE oil at different concentrations. At these different nanoparticle concentrations, 0.5% of the surfactant was used. The reason for using a surfactant in the nano-lubricant was to prevent agglomeration in the mixture. TX-100 and Tween 80 surfactants were also used to study the effects of the surfactant on the nano-lubricant. Experiments were carried out using three different concentrations and three measurements for each concentration using the POE/TiO2/surfactant nano-lubricants. The best improvement was achieved when a nano-lubricant consisting of a mixture of TX-100 and POE oil with a concentration of 1.5% TiO2 was used. The improvement in coefficient of performance (COP) for the refrigeration cycle was 39.42%.

        The electrical properties of ZnO/Si heterojunction diode depending on thin film thickness

        In this work, ZnO thin flms have been produced on p-Si wafer depending on number of laser pulses applied using pulse laser deposition (PLD) technique at room temperature conditions. Three diferent thicknesses of ZnO thin flms (ZnO1, ZnO2 and ZnO3) have been produced by applying 18,000, 36,000 and 54,000 laser pulses and thicknesses of these produced three thin flms have been measured to be 41 nm, 70 nm, 197 nm, respectively. It is observed in this work that while thicknesses of ZnO thin flms increases, crystal structure of thin flms develops, their grain size increase while their band gaps decrease. Ag/ZnO/ Si/Au heterojunction diodes have been produced based on ZnO1, ZnO2 and ZnO3 thin flms. After that, efect of thickness of thin flm on electrical properties of diodes produced depending on number of laser pulses has been analyzed in detail. I–V characteristics of ZnO/Si heterojunction diodes produced have also been measured in darkness environment and under illumination conditions (AM 1.5 solar radiation of 80 mW/cm2 ) and results obtained have been interpreted and a conclusion has been made in this work. Furthermore, ideality factors, barrier heights and serial resistivities of these diodes have been calculated using conventional thermionic emission theory, Norde and Cheung-Cheung methods and then results obtained from analytical methods have been interpreted in detail in the present article. ZnO heterojunction diodes have exhibited photovoltaic properties under illumination conditions. It has been observed that as thickness of ZnO thin flm is increased, Jsc and η values of the hetero junction diodes are increased. ZnO-3A hetero junction diode has exhibited the most improved photovoltaic performance. We have also theoretically investigated photo-electric properties of ZnO-3A heterojunction diode using SCAPS-1D packed software. The resulted J–V characteristics have been found very similar to measured counterparts.

      • Pose Estimation of 5-DOF Manipulator using On-Body Markers

        Manipulators are helpful in performing various hazardous tasks like sanitization with chemicals in germs infected areas, spraying pesticides in fields, pick and place of heavy and hazardous materials where direct human intervention is difficult. For manipulators to perform its assigned task accurately, prior estimation of its pose needs to be pinpointed. End-effector grasping and arm manipulation require estimation of 3D object poses. Recently, a number of procedures and databases for vision-based estimation of object pose have been advised. However, it is not clear about the performance of the developed algorithms for visual pose estimation of robot manipulation. In this paper we present the pose estimation of a 5-dof PhantomX Reactor Arm using On-Body/Aruco Markers. Forward and inverse kinematics were used to estimate the pose from the position coordinates calculated using computer vision techniques. This paper implements an approach aimed at estimating the pose of a camera, affixed to a robotic manipulator, against a target object. We adopt a single camera single-shot technique that minimizes the reprojection error over all the rigid poses. The simulation and experimental results using industrial monocular camera for different sizes of On-body markers were presented.

      • Multi-Obfuscation Approach for Preserving Privacy in Smart Transportation

        These days, protecting location privacy has become essential and really challenging, especially protecting it from smart applications and services that rely on Location-Based Services (LBS). As the technology and the services that are based on it are developed, the capability and the experience of the attackers are increased. Therefore, the traditional protection ways cannot be enough and are unable to fully ensure and preserve privacy. Previously, a hybrid approach to privacy has been introduced. It used an obfuscation technique, called Double-Obfuscation Approach (DOA), to improve the privacy level. However, this approach has some weaknesses. The most important ones are the fog nodes that have been overloaded due to the number of communications. It is also unable to prevent the Tracking and Identification attacks in the Mix-Zone technique. For these reasons, this paper introduces a developed and enhanced approach, called Multi-Obfuscation Approach (MOA that mainly depends on the communication between neighboring fog nodes to overcome the drawbacks of the previous approach. As a result, this will increase the resistance to new kinds of attacks and enhance processing. Meanwhile, this approach will increase the level of the users' privacy and their locations protection. To do so, a big enough memory is needed on the users' sides, which already is available these days on their devices. The simulation and the comparison prove that the new approach (MOA) exceeds the DOA in many Standards for privacy protection approaches.

        Hybrid Electrically Conductive Adhesive (HECA) Properties as a Function of Hybrid Filler Ratio With Increasing Total Filler Loading

        This paper presents a study on Hybrid Electrically Conductive Adhesive (HECA) properties as an in-depth analysis regardinghybrid fi ller ratio at low fi ller range. It is well established that the hybridization approach exhibits excellent functionalproperties of HECA. Still, the highest potential ability of the proposed HECA concerning relative amounts of involvingfi llers is the least being discovered. In this work, silver micro-fl ake (AgMF) and multiwalled carbon nanotube (MWCNT)conductive fi llers were incorporated from 3 to 15 wt.%, while AgMF: MWCNT fi ller ratio is varied between 0.006 up to 0.2to choose the best combination. Here, a planetary centrifugal mixer with diff erent mixing time and sequence were consideredto identify the most eff ective mixing method. The functional properties of HECA were characterized in terms of a four-pointprobe electrical test and a lap shear test via tensile mode. The morphological study suggests that a shorter centrifugal mixingperiod allows an adequate dispersion of the micro-nano fi llers in the HECA system and revealed superior interfacial bondingbetween the fi llers at the optimum ratio. Interestingly, electrical resistivity at critical concentration showed an optimumratio by incorporating only 2.5% AgMF in the hybrid fi llers to yield a 42.62% reduction. However, the signifi cant eff ects ofhybridization are observed until the percolation threshold of HECA at 9 wt% only, followed by a 38.5% reduction beyondthis limit. Moreover, the lap shear strength is most reliable at a total fi ller of 6 wt%, an indication of an excellent fi ller-binderload distribution.

        Formation of social scientific fields in Indonesian universities

        This study examines the processes of the formation of social scientific fields in Indonesian universities. In contrast to the convergence perspective that is currently dominating the research on university reform, this paper enriches the divergence perspective. In essence, this study argues that individual universities respond differently to university reform and draws on Beckert’s three interrelated social forces and Paradeise and Thoenig’s concept of divergence. It conducts in-depth interviews with 40 social scientists at four state universities across the country and presents the following conclusions. State-led university reform contributes to the creation of the plurality of academic cultures, which, in turn, influences the processes of facilitation and negotiation over resources within university governance. In addition, this plurality promotes the reactions of coupling and decoupling of circles of scientific production and distribution, which respectively bolster and impede the development of social sciences. Top and wannabe circles promote peer-reviewed scientific publications as a universal standard of academic performance, whereas the missionary circle embraces the idea of public engagement as the sole mission of a university. Re-coupling among circles has to become the new rule of the game. In this manner, the quality of individual academics, university teaching, and public engagement will be considerably improved.

        Pharmacological Studies of Various Extracts and the Major Constituent , Lupeol , obtained from Hexane Extract of Teclea nobilis in Rodents

        The pharmacological activities of the acetonitrile (MeCN), hexane extracts and isolated pure terpenoidal compound Lupeol from the leaves of Teclea nobilis, Delile (TN), on inflammation induced by carrageenan and implantation of cotton pellets in rats; the nociceptive response using writhing and tail flick tests and the antipyretic activity in yeast-induced fever were examined in mice. Oral administration of TN extracts at doses of 150 and 300 ㎎/㎏ and lupeol 5 and 10 ㎎/㎏ showed a significant anti-inflammatory activity in rats. The extracts of TN and lupeol significantly decreased the number of contractions and stretchings induced by acetic acid and heat-induced pain in mice. The antipyretic effect of extracts and lupeol was also found to be significant. The behavioral observation of animals showed that the hexane extract and lupeol caused CNS depressant activity and did not produce any toxic or lethal effects in animals at various dose levels. The results suggest that the Teclea nobilis extracts and lupeol possesses anti-inflammatory, analgesic and antipyretic activities.

        Synthesis and Fragmentation Behavior Study of n-alkyl/benzyl Isatin Derivatives Present in Small/Complex Molecules: Precursor for the Preparation of Biological Active Heterocycles

        N-Alkyl/benzyl substituted isatin derivatives are intermediates and synthetic precursors for the preparation of biolog- ical active heterocycles. N-alkyl/benzyl isatins have showed various biological activities, such as cytotoxicity, antiviral, caspase inhibition, cannabinoid receptor 2 agonists for the treatment of neuropathic pain, etc. In this study, N-alkyl/benzyl isatin deriva- tives were synthesized from isatin and alkyl/benzyl halides in presence of K 2 CO 3 in DMF and excellent to quantitative yields (~95%) were obtained. Isatins and benzyl-isatins were condensed with fluorescein hydrazide to form fluorescein hydrazone. All the compounds were subjected to their fragmentation behavior study using LC/MS n . N-Alkyl substituted isatin derivatives frag- mented at nitrogen-carbon (N-C) bond, hence gave daughter ion as [RN+H] + . Whereas, N-benzyl substituted isatin derivatives fragmented at carbon-carbon (C-C) bond of alkyl chain which linked with nitrogen molecules, therefore gave N-methyl frag- ments [RNCH 2 ] + . This study demonstrated that, isatin moiety present in a small/large molecule or in a matrix of reaction mixture with/without N-alkyl/benzyl substituents can be identified by mass spectroscopic fragmentation behavior study.
