      • 한국재래산양의 육성사료 개발을 위한 농산 부산물 중 사과박과 미강의 이용

        본 실험에서는 볏짚, 사과박, 미강 등의 농산부산물 및 시판사료의 혼합 비율을 A구는 60:0:0:40, B구는 60:0:30:10, C구는 30:30:30:10, D구는 0:60:30:10으로 조제하여 한국 재래산양에게 급여하였다. 사료섭취량과 영양소 소화율 및 제 1위내 발효 성상을 조사하였으며 이에 따른 재래산양의 육성사료로서 농산부산물의 활용 가능성을 제시하고자 실시하였다. 그 결과를 요약하면 다음과 같다. 1. 시험사료의 화학적 조성분은 조단백질 함량이 8.2∼9.5%이었고 ADF와 NDF 함량은 A구가 각각 32.2와 65.8%로 가장 높았고 D구가 l8.3와 36.5%으로 가장 낮은 경향을 보였으나, 조지방과 NSC는 D구가 9.2와 39.5%로 가장 높았다. 2. 1일 두당 건물섭취량은 A, C 및 D구가 각각 455.6, 446.5 및 418g으로 B구의 313.1g 보다 유의하게 높았다. 3. 건물, 유기물, 조단백질, ADF 및 NDF 소화율은 ADF와 NDF 함량이 적고 NSC 함량이 높은 사과박 혼합구가 높았다. 4. 질소 축적량과 축적율은 사과박 혼합구가 높았고 B구가 가장 낮았다. 5. pH 및 NH₃-N농도는 각각 6.1∼6.8, 22.6∼24.4㎎/100㎖의 범위로서 처리구간 pH의 유의한 차이는 없었으나 사과박 혼합구에서 NH₃-N 농도가 유의하게 높았다. 6. Acetate와 propionate의 비율은 사과박 혼합구가 낮게 나타났다. In this study, rice straw, apple pomace and rice bran of agricultural by-products and commercial diets were mixed and fed to Korean native growing goats in 4 different ratios (A 60:0:0:40, B 60:0:30:10, C 30:30:30:10, D 0:60:30:10). Dry matter intake, digestibilities of nutrients and ruminal fermentation characteristics were investigated and using those data, the possibilities of application of agricultural byproducts in Korean native goats were suggested. The results are as follows. 1. Crude protein contents of experimental diets in 4 different treatments were similar in the range of 8.2∼9.5%. The contents of ADF(acid detergent fiber) and NDF(neutral detergent fiber) were highest in A (32.2, 65.8%) and lowest in D (18.3, 36.5%). Ether extracts and NSC (non-structural carbohydrates) were highest in D (9.2, 39.5%). 2. Dry matter intakes per head and day were significantly higher in A, C and D (455.6, 446.5, 418g) than 313.1g of B. 3. Digestibilities of dry matter, organic matter, crude protein, ADF and NDF were higher in apple pomace treatments that contained higher NSC and less ADF and NDF than rice straw treatments. 4. Nitrogen retention was higher in apple pomace treatments wheras that of B was lowest among all treatments. 5. pH values of 6.1∼6.8 were similar in all treatments however NH₃-N concentrations in the range of 22.6∼24.4 ㎎/100㎖ were significantly higher in apple pomace treatments. 6.         Tonal domains and nonfinality effects in the Samchuk dialect of Korean

This paper deals with tones of the Samchuk dialect of Korean, focusing on typical tonal patterns of nouns. I claim that the underlying forms of Korean tone dialects are marked by tonal boundaries, which later define tonal domains. I argue, following Gim (1988, 1999), that in most cases the positions of tonal boundaries are predictable from Middle Korean side-dots, and thus that all modern tone dialects have the same location of tonal boundaries. In addition, I argue, following Hwangbo (2001), that the different tone realization between dialects results from different constraint ranking. I show that the interesting tonal phenomena of the Samchuk dialect can be explained in a principled manner if we have recourse to the tonal boundaries and tonal domains. More specifically, I show that 'post-accenting' and 'pre-accenting' observed in the Samchuk dialect can be explained as nonfinality effects within tonal domains. (Sungkyul University)

      • Optimal network design of hydrogen production by integrated utility and biogas supply networks

        <P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>This research aims to develop a mathematical model to construct a network model for producing hydrogen by integrated utility and biogas supply networks (IUBSNs). In this model, a utility supply network exists in a huge petrochemical industry while a biogas supply network consists of a wastewater treatment plant and anaerobic digestion. Pipelines connect the utility and biogas supply networks. The steam reforming process, which is the most well-known process able to generate large amounts of hydrogen, is employed to harness hydrogen as well as to integrate the two networks. In IUBSNs, the needed steam is obtained by optimizing a utility supply network while methane-rich biogas is generated by placing anaerobic digestion tanks into a number of wastewater treatment plants allocated by region. This study uses an algorithm for solving the mixed-integer linear programming problems to minimize the total annual costs of IUBSNs and simultaneously satisfy hydrogen demand. IUBSNs can be a great alternative to a hydrogen supply network that imports and consumes fossil fuels to produce hydrogen, furthermore, it is able to positively influence environmental issues through the reduction of the amount of fossil fuel used in petrochemical industries. A case study of the Republic of Korea illustrates the feasibility of the proposed model. Three cases (base case, only optimized utility supply networks, and IUBSNs) are conducted, and an increase in hydrogen demand is applied to each case. The results demonstrate that IUBSNs construction decreases the total costs by about 13% compared to the existing situation, and as hydrogen demand increases, the gas pipeline structure in IUBSNs employs a hub city to transport biogas flexibly.</P> <P><B>Highlights</B></P> <P> <UL> <LI> Utility and biogas supply networks are integrated and optimized by gas pipelines. </LI> <LI> A steam reforming process is employed as a linkage process. </LI> <LI> Mixed-integer linear programming is used to design an integrated network model. </LI> <LI> A case study based on the industrial hydrogen demand in Korea is presented. </LI> </UL> </P> <P><B>Graphical abstract</B></P> <P>[DISPLAY OMISSION]</P>

      • Direct Formation of <i>β</i>-Poly(vinylidene fluoride) Thin Films by Electrostatic Spray Deposition

        <P>Poly(vinylidene fluoride) (PVDF) layers were prepared on a silicon wafer (100) substrate via electrostatic spray deposition (ESD) or spin coating with or without a hydrated salt. In order to achieve crystallization, the as-deposited layers were heat-treated at 160 degrees C for 1 h. X-ray diffraction (XRD), field emission-scanning electron microscopy (FE-SEM), and Fourier transform infrared spectrophotometer (FTIR) were employed to investigate the presence of the beta phase in the sample. XRD analysis indicated the formation of a crystalline phase with the polar beta-phase. The presence of the beta-phases was also confirmed by performing the FTIR analysis. Our results show that the smooth and crack-free PVDF layers with polar beta-phases prepared using the simple ESD method can be promising candidates for integrating ferro-and piezo-electric properties into micro-electronic devices fabricated on various complex substrates.</P>

        <P>CONCLUSIONS AND RELEVANCE In this large Korean cohort, cancer development increased the risk of subsequent diabetes. These data provide evidence that cancer is associated with an increased risk of diabetes in cancer survivors independent of traditional diabetes risk factors. Physicians should remember that patients with cancer develop other clinical problems, such as diabetes, with higher frequency than individuals without cancer, and should consider routine diabetes screening in these patients.</P>

      • Mathematical model to optimize design of integrated utility supply network and future global hydrogen supply network under demand uncertainty

        <P>Existing energy-efficient management and development of alternative energy infrastructure are the most important issues in modern industry. The former has been mainly studied in terms of optimal design of utility supply network. The latter has been consistently researched in the field of strategic planning of future global hydrogen supply network. In this work, we develop an integrated network model of huge chemical industrial complexes to combine various utility supply networks with a global hydrogen supply network. To construct an integrated network model, the steam methane reforming process is used as a linkage between the two networks. The developed model is a two-stage stochastic mixed integer linear programming that optimizes total cost and also considers demand uncertainty about water, electricity, steam, and hydrogen that are consumed in each network. Finally, a case study in South Korea is conducted to validate the proposed model; it suggests reasonable scenarios to decision makers. (C) 2017 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.</P>

        Corni Fructus attenuates testosterone-induced benign prostatic hyperplasia by suppressing 5α-reductase and androgen receptor expression in rats

        BACKGROUND/OBJECTIVES: Benign prostatic hypertrophy (BPH) is a major cause of abnormal overgrowth of the prostate mainly in the elderly. Corni Fructus has been reported to be effective in the prevention and treatment of various diseases because of its strong antioxidant effect, but its efficacy against BPH is not yet known. This study was designed to evaluate the therapeutic efficacy of Corni Fructus water extract (CF) in testosterone-induced BPH rats. MATERIALS/METHODS: To induce BPH, rats were intraperitoneal injected with testosterone propionate (TP). Rats in the treatment group were orally administered with CF with TP injection, and finasteride, which is a selective inhibitor of $5{\alpha}$-reductase type 2, was used as a positive control. RESULTS: Our results showed that the increased prostate weight and histopathological changes in BPH model rats were suppressed by CF treatment. CF, similar to the finasteride-treated group, decreased the levels of testosterone and dihydrotestosterone by TP treatment in the serum, and it also reduced $5{\alpha}$-reductase expression and concentration in prostate tissue and serum, respectively. In addition, CF significantly blocked the expression of the androgen receptor (AR), AR co-activators, and proliferating cell nuclear antigen in BPH rats, and this blocking was associated with a decrease in prostate-specific antigen levels in serum and prostate tissue. CONCLUSIONS: These results suggest that CF may weaken the BPH status through the inactivation of at least $5{\alpha}$-reductase and AR activity and may be useful for the clinical treatment of BPH.

      • Statistical Prediction of Wake Fields on Propeller Plane by Neural Network using Back-Propagation

        A number of numerical methods like Computational Fluid Dynamics(CFD) have been developed to predict the flow fields of a vessel but the present study is developed to infer the wake fields on propeller plane by Statistical Fluid Dynamics(SFD) approach which is emerging as a new technique over a wide range of industrial fields nowadays. Neural network is well known as one prospective representative of the SFD tool and is widely applied even in the engineering fields. Further to its stable and effective system structure, generalization of input training patterns into different classification or categorization in training can offer more systematic treatments of input part and more reliable result. Because neural network has an ability to learn the knowledge through the external information, it is not necessary to use logical programming and it can flexibly handle the incomplete information which is not easy to make a definition clear. Three dimensional stern hull forms and nominal wake values from a model test are structured as processing elements of input and output layer respectively and a neural network is trained by the back-propagation method. The inferred results show similar figures to the experimental wake distribution.

        Early Germination Response of Soybean Seed to Accelerated Aging and Low Dose Gamma Irradiation

        The responses of soybean seeds were evaluated to accelerated aging and gamma irradiation with regard to germination, seed leakage, seed leachate component and dry weight of hypocotyl and primary root of the germinating seed. Accelerated aging significantly reduced the final germination rate while gamma irradiation increased the final germination rate. Furthermore, the interactive effects occurred that the final germination rate of 5-day aged seeds increased considerably in response to 4 Gy of gamma irradiation. The extent to which the electrolyte was leaked from the seeds (conductivity) was significantly affected by accelerated aging and showed a close negative correlation with the germination rate. Gamma irradiation, however, did not significantly affect the electrical conductivity of seed leachate. The accelerated aging significantly increased the concentrations of the particular electrolytes leaked from the seeds while the gamma irradiation did not affect those concentrations. Of the electrolytes leaked from the seeds, Ca and Mg showed relatively lower concentrations while K showed greater concentrations than others. Moreover, N and P showed similar responses to aging treatment. Aging treatment significantly affected dry weight (DW) of hypocotyls and primary root. Also, gamma irradiation decreased DW of hypocotyls and primary root, particularly for 8 Gy associated with 5 days aging treatment. The data were discussed in terms of the relationships of seed vigor with aging treatment and gamma irradiation.

        The Frequency and Length Dependence of the Target Strength of the Largehead Hairtail (Trichiurus lepturus) in Korean Waters

        The largehead hairtail (Trichiurus lepturus) is one of the most common fisheries stocks in the East China Sea and the Yellow Sea. The species is caught using a variety of fishing tools, such as a stow net or a long line, as well as jigging and trawling. Scientific investigations have been conducted throughout the world to enable evidence-based estimations for the management and protection of the main fisheries biomass. For example, inshore and offshore hydro acoustic surveys are performed annually using bottom- and mid-water trawls around the Korean Peninsula. However, to date, no acoustic survey has been conducted to estimate fish size distribution, which is necessary to construct a data bank of target strength (TS) relative to fish species, length (L), and frequency. This study describes the frequency and length dependence of TS among fishes in Korean waters for the purpose of constructing such a TS data bank. TS measurements of the largehead hairtail were carried out in a water tank (L 5 m$\times$width 6 m$\times$ height 5 m) at frequencies of 50, 75, 120, and 200 kHz, using a tethering method. The average TS patterns were measured as a function of tilt angle, ranging from $-45^{\circ}$ (head down) to $+45^{\circ}$ (head up) every $0.2^{\circ}$. The length conversion constant ($b_{20}$) was estimated under the assumption that TS is proportional to the square of the length. In addition, in situ TS measurements on live largehead hairtails were performed using a split beam echo sounder.
