The genetic variation in populations of the oyster Crassostrea gigas in Korea was examined through mitochondrial DNA analysis. Part of the cytochrome oxidase subunit I gene was amplified with the polymerase chain reaction (PCR) and sequenced for 30 individuals. We collected five respectively from two locations in the western coast of Korea (Hwaseong and Boryeong) and four locations in the southern coast of Korea (Haenam, Namhae, Goseong and Gadeok). Resultant sequence data showed that there were seven variable nucleotide positions in the 649 base-pair segment of the gene and that all 30 sequences were grouped into eight haplotypes. No marked genetic difference was observed between populations in the western and the southern coast of Korea.
Chondroblastoma : MR Characteristics with Pathologic Correlation

Purpose : The purpose of this study was to describe the MR findings of chondroblastoma with pathologic correlation. Method : In 22 patients with pathologically proven chondroblastoma, MR signal characteristics were correlated with pathological findings. Results : On T2-weighted images, 12 (55%) lesions were hyperintense with hypointense areas in 9 lesions, whereas 10 (45%) were hypointense. Therfore, 19 of 22 (86%) lesions with pathologic correlation had hypointenes areas entirely (n=10) or partly (n=9) on T2-weighted images On gadolinium-enhanced images, 13 (59%) lesions showed lobular enhancement and 9 (41%) showed marginal and septal enhancement. Low signal intensity on T2-weighted MR images was most strongly associated with an abundance of immature chondroid matrix, hypercellularity of the chondroblasts, calcifications, and hemosiderin on histology. Conclusion : Chondroblastoma was found to show hypointense portions on T2-weighted images. Signal intensity on T1- and T2-weighted MR images in chondroblastoma was dependent on the amounts of histopathological components. (Jornal of Computer Assisted Tomography 23(5):781-726, 1999)
Structures of Butylthiolate Self-Assembled Monolayers on Au(111) with Gold Adatoms

A density functional theory method with the local basis set was employed to perform slab calculations to study thiolate-induced surface reconstruction structures of butylthiolates (ButS) with c($4{\times}2$) superlattice of the Au(111) surface. The slab calculations indicate that the most stable adsorption structure is the ButS-Au (adatom)-SBut complex form, which is in good agreement with the reported experiments and theoretical results for thiolates with shorter alkyl chains. The cis form of ButS-Au (adatom)-SBut motifs is preferred by 0.11 eV with respect to the trans form, and by 0.15 eV over the mixed cis-trans configurations due to the steric hindrance between adjacent butyl groups. It appears that the motif of Au adatom on the Au(111) surface is favored even for butylthiolate.

The practical design methodology of a three-phase dual active bridge (3ph-DAB) converter applied to low voltage direct current (LVDC) applications is proposed by using a mathematical model based on the steady-state operation. An analysis of the small-signal model (SSM) is important for the design of a proper controller to improve the stability and dynamics of the converter. The proposed lead-lag controller for the 3ph-DAB converter is designed with a simplified SSM analysis including an equivalent series resistor (ESR) for the output capacitor. The proposed controller can compensate the effects of the ESR zero of the output capacitor in the control-to-output voltage transfer function that can cause high-frequency noises. In addition, the performance of the power converter can be improved by using a controller designed by a SSM analysis without additional cost. The accuracy of the simplified SSM including the ESR zero of the output capacitor is verified by simulation software (PSIM). The design methodology of the 3ph-DAB converter and the performance of the proposed controller are verified by experimental results obtained with a 5-kW prototype 3ph-DAB converter.
A clinicopathological analysis of metastasis in Korean acral melanomas

Background: The prognosis of acral melanomas depends on metastasis. Objectives: The purpose of current study was to investigate the prognostic factors for metastasis of acral melanomas. Methods: We retrospectively reviewed all patients with melanoma located on acral sites from 1996-2016. Only patients who had followed-up for at least 3 years were included. We divided total 189 acral melanoma patients into groups of no metastasis, first lymph node metastasis, and first distant metastasis. Demographic and clinicopathological characteristics were obtained. Results: The median age was 63 years and 51.3% of patients were male. The number of patients who were diagnosed as melanoma in situ was 46 (24.3%), and that of invasive melanoma without metastasis was 29 (15.3%). Among 114 patients with invasive acral melanomas with metastasis, the first metastasis to regional lymph nodes was predominant (99, 86.8%), whereas the first metastasis to distant organs was detected in only 15 patients (13.2%). Acral melanomas deeper than T3 stages, ulceration, and higher mitotic rate more than 7 per square mm are associated with metastasis with statistical significance. However, there was no statistically significant difference in age, sex, site, height, and duration to the first metastasis among patient groups. Conclusion: Breslow thickness, ulceration and mitotic rate are significant prognostic factors for prediction of metastasis in acral melanomas.
