Verb Inflectional Morphology in Ikwere

Although some work has been done on Ikwere verb inflectional morphology, no comprehensive description of this aspect of the language exists. This paper aims at providing a fairly comprehensive description of the verb inflectional morphology of Ikwere, an Igboid language (Niger-Congo) spoken in southern Nigeria. It notes that the marking of inflectional categories of tense, aspect, mood and polarity in Ikwere is a combination of affixes, auxiliaries and tone. The paper identifies -kata and -li as markers of resultative and potential respectively. It also identifies the combination -ká and -lâ as marking emphatic prohibitive, in addition to -rV, -ga, -lV/-nV, -bè, -kọ̀, dè/dà and -V identified by Alerechi (2015), which respectively mark factative/assertive, progressive, perfect, inceptive, habitual, future and prohibitive. The paper further establishes that in addition to root-controlled vowel harmony noted by Alerechi (2007, 2009), affix-controlled vowel harmony is also attested in Ikwere. Finally, the paper demonstrates that although tense, aspect, mood and polarity are different in theory, in practice they criss-cross themselves in verb forms in Ikwere, thus resulting in such combinations as ‘resultative past’ and ‘future potential’.

The hybrid cascaded multilevel inverter (HCMLI) is a popular converter topology that is being increasingly used in high power medium voltage drives. The intricacy of the control technique for a HCMLI increases with the number of levels and due to fluctuating dc voltages. This paper presents a novel offline quadrant search based space vector modulation technique to synthesize a sinusoidal output from a dispersed pattern of voltage vectors due to different voltages in the auxiliary unit. Such an investigation has never been reported in the literature and it is being attempted for the first time. The method suggested distributes the voltage vectors for a reduced total harmonic distortion at minimal computation. In addition, the proposed algorithm determines the maximum modulation index in the linear modulation range in order to synthesize a sinusoidal output for both normal and abnormal vector patterns. It is better suited for a wide range of practical applications. It is particularly well suited for renewable source fed inverters which utilize large capacitor banks to maintain the dc link, which are prone to such slow fluctuations. The proposed quadrant search space vector modulation technique is simulated using MATLAB/SIMULINK and implemented using a Nexys-2 Spartan-3E FPGA for a developed prototype.

<P><B>Abstract</B></P><P>The effects of feeding diets based on soybean meal, low phytate hulless barley (Lphybarley) and low phytate pea (Lphypea) with inorganic phosphorus (iP) reduced by 50 or 100% to broiler chickens on performance, P digestibility and bone characteristics were investigated. Two hundred and ten day-old (Ross 308 strain) broiler chicks (5 birds per cage; 6 cages per diet) were randomly allocated to 7 dietary treatments for a 21-day study. Diets were formulated based on soybean meal-normal phytate hulless barley (SBM-normbarley) with added inorganic P (iP) to meet NRC (1994) P requirements (SBM-normbarley100) or with 50% less iP (SBM-normbarley50), soybean meal-Lphybarley-Lphypea with added iP (Lphybarley-Lphypea100) or iP reduced by 50% (Lphybarley-Lphypea50) or 100% (Lphybarley-Lphypea0), and soybean meal-normbarleynormal phytate pea (normpea) with added iP (normbarley-normpea100) or iP reduced by 50% (normbarley-normpea50). Birds fed the Lphybarley-Lphypea0 diet had the lowest (P<0.001) ADG compared with those fed the other diets. Reducing iP by 50% led to a reduction (P<0.05) in ADG for birds fed the SBM-normbarley- and normbarley-normpea-based diets but not in the Lphybarley- Lphypea-based diet. Reducing iP by 50% led to a reduction (P<0.05) in ADFI in birds fed the SBM-normbarley-based diet and normbarley-normpea-based diet compared with those fed adequate iP. Feed conversion ratio was not affected by diet throughout the experimental period (P>0.10). Reducing iP content reduced P retention in the SBM-normbarley-based diet but not in the normbarley-normpea-based diet but tibia ash and length were reduced in birds fed both diets (P<0.05). Reducing dietary iP content linearly increased (P < 0.05) P retention and linearly decreased (P<0.05) tibia ash and length in the Lphypea-Lphybarley-based diets. In conclusion, feeding a low phytate hulless barley-low phytate pea based diet with iP reduced by 50% supported similar performance as control and increased P retention, suggesting that utilizing a combination of low phytate ingredients can reduce the need for supplemental iP with significant cost and environmental implication.</P>

On pairwise fuzzy almost P-spaces

In this paper, the concept of pairwise fuzzy almost P-space is introduced by means of pairwise fuzzy Gδ-sets. Several characterizations of pairwise fuzzy almost P-spaces are obtained. The conditions for the pairwise fuzzy submaximal spaces to become pairwise fuzzy almost P-spaces are established. It is shown that the pairwise fuzzy strongly irresolvable and pairwise fuzzy almost P-spaces are pairwise fuzzy irresolvable spaces. The condition for the pairwise fuzzy almost P-spaces to become pairwise fuzzy σ-second category spaces and pairwise fuzzy weakly Volterra spaces are also established.

Image hiding is a technique that embeds the images into a cover image which makes the watermarks imperceptible so that they can be securely transmitted to the receiver. In this paper, an effective color image watermarking method based on the marginal strategy is proposed. The method uses logical operators like AND and XOR on the nibble to hide the image with in the cover image. To test the robustness of the stego image the present method is applied on different kinds of cover images and the resulting perceptual quality is good.

This paper examines the effectiveness of tourism programme towards students' perceptions and expectations. A qualitative approach will be conducted to reveal students' judgment of the effectiveness of learning the subject that leads their expectations towards family, colleagues, lecturers, the school and other external factors. Results revealed will be essentially derived from the students' opinion of the concerned topic and issue. The objective of the study is to prepare undergraduates with prerequisite skills and talents in meeting the requirements in tourism market through improving the quality of tourism education in the university.
Simplified logical modulator for the reduction of common mode voltage in alternating current drives

This paper proposes the reduction of common mode voltage (CMV) magnitude using a simplified logical modulator (SLM). This modulator uses the ideas of space vectors to detect and eliminate the high common mode vectors produced by carrier phase-shifted sine pulse width modulation generator. The proposed SLM has an inherent ability to eliminate the CMV spikes due to dead time, but it introduces short circuit vectors (SCVs). This issue is addressed by designing an SCV eliminator (SCVE). The performance of the SLM-SCVE is validated through simulations. The proposed SLM-SCVE is implemented using MATLAB-Xilinx system generator interface in Spartan 3E-FPGA and tested in a prototype hardware. The proposed SLM-SCVE proves to be a simple and reliable solution for the reduction of CMV in industrial application because finite number of logic gates is used.
