        Texture Analysis of Three-Dimensional MRI Images May Differentiate Borderline and Malignant Epithelial Ovarian Tumors

        Objective: To explore the value of magnetic resonance imaging (MRI)-based whole tumor texture analysis in differentiating borderline epithelial ovarian tumors (BEOTs) from FIGO stage I/II malignant epithelial ovarian tumors (MEOTs). Materials and Methods: A total of 88 patients with histopathologically confirmed ovarian epithelial tumors after surgical resection, including 30 BEOT and 58 MEOT patients, were divided into a training group (n = 62) and a test group (n = 26). The clinical and conventional MRI features were retrospectively reviewed. The texture features of tumors, based on T2- weighted imaging, diffusion-weighted imaging, and contrast-enhanced T1-weighted imaging, were extracted using MaZda software and the three top weighted texture features were selected by using the Random Forest algorithm. A non-texture logistic regression model in the training group was built to include those clinical and conventional MRI variables with p value < 0.10. Subsequently, a combined model integrating non-texture information and texture features was built for the training group. The model, evaluated using patients in the training group, was then applied to patients in the test group. Finally, receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curves were used to assess the diagnostic performance of the models. Results: The combined model showed superior performance in categorizing BEOTs and MEOTs (sensitivity, 92.5%; specificity, 86.4%; accuracy, 90.3%; area under the ROC curve [AUC], 0.962) than the non-texture model (sensitivity, 78.3%; specificity, 84.6%; accuracy, 82.3%; AUC, 0.818). The AUCs were statistically different (p value = 0.038). In the test group, the AUCs, sensitivity, specificity, and accuracy were 0.840, 73.3%, 90.1%, and 80.8% when the non-texture model was used and 0.896, 75.0%, 94.0%, and 88.5% when the combined model was used. Conclusion: MRI-based texture features combined with clinical and conventional MRI features may assist in differentitating between BEOT and FIGO stage I/II MEOT patients.

        Metal organic frameworks template-directed fabrication of rod-like hollow BiOClxBr1x with adjustable band gap for excellent photocatalytic activity under visible light

        Developing an efficient, environmentally friendly, and pollution-free catalyst with excellent visible light catalyticactivity is a promising strategy for dye wastewater treatment. Herein, the rod-like hollow BiOClxBr1x (x=1, 0.75, 0.5,0.25, 0), with an adjustable band gap, was successfully prepared using Bi-based metal-organic framework as template. The corresponding hollow assembly and introduction of Br imparted valuable structural advantages and intrinsic characteristicsfor improved photocatalytic activity. Significantly, the degradation efficiency of BiOCl0.5Br0.5 for the RhodamineB (RhB) solution reached 92% under visible light illumination for 90 min, which is considerably higher than that ofCAU-17-derived Bi2O3 and BiOCl. Overall, these findings shed fundamental insight on constructing novel photocatalystswith excellent visible light driven photocatalytic activity and offered a new method for treating dye wastewater.

        Associations of MMP-2 21306 C/T and MMP-9 21562 C/T polymorphisms with breast cancer risk among different populations: a meta-analysis

        The meta-analysis aims to investigate association between two matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs) polymorphisms (MMP-2 -1306 C/T and MMP-9 -1562 C/T) and breast cancer risk. Eligible studies were retrieved from relevant databases, based on predefined criteria. Quality assessment was evaluated by Newcastle–Ottawa Scale. Odds ratio (OR) with its 95% confidence interval (CI) was selected as the effect size for the meta-analysis. As a result, 13 studies were included. MMP-2 -1306 C/T polymorphism was not significantly associated with breast cancer risk under all genetic models (P[0.05). However, subgroup analysis stratified by ethnicity showed a significant association between MMP-2 -1306 C/T polymorphism and reduced breast cancer risk in Asian populations under allelic model (OR 0.60, 95% CI 0.39–0.90, P = 0.02) and dominant model (OR 0.55, 95% CI 0.34–0.89, P = 0.02). MMP-9 -1562 C/T polymorphism was significantly related to increased breast cancer risk under allelic model (OR 1.50, 95% CI 1.06–2.12, P = 0.02), additive model (OR 1.45, 95% CI 1.02–2.05, P = 0.04) and recessive model (OR 1.54, 95% CI 1.13–2.12, OR 0.007). A significant association between MMP-9 -1562 C/T polymorphism and increased breast cancer risk in Caucasian was detected under most of the genetic models (P\0.05). MMP-2 -1306 C/T polymorphism might be significantly associated with reduced breast cancer risk in Asian, while MMP-9 -1562 C/T might be closely related to increased breast cancer risk, especially in Caucasian.

        Modification of hollow BiOCl/TiO2 nanotubes with phosphoric acid to enhance their photocatalytic performance

        Organic pollutants in dyed wastewater are hazardous to human health and the environment. The photocatalyticdegradation of pollutants is considered a green treatment with significant social and environmental benefits. Inthis study, hollow BiOCl/TiO2 nanotubes with open pores at both ends, prepared by hydrothermal synthesis, weremodified using phosphoric acid to promote photoelectron transfer. The hollow nanotubes offer an increased numberof electroactive sites, which enhances the photoelectric transfer efficiency and reduces the electron-hole recombinationrate. The modification by H3PO4 significantly optimized the photocatalytic activity of the nanotubes. The results showthat the H3PO4 modified hollow BiOCl/TiO2 (molar ratio of BiOCl to TiO2 is 0.8) nanotubes exhibited the most efficientphotocatalytic performance toward rhodamine B (RhB) with a photodegradation efficiency of up to 98.8% undervisible-light illumination. These nanotubes have broad application prospects for the effective removal of organic pollutantsfrom wastewater and can potentially inform future research on photocatalysts.

        Transcriptome reveals genes involving in black skin color formation of ducks

        Background Skin color is colorful for birds, which has been reported to be associated with multi-biological functions, such as crypsis, camoufage, social signaling and mate choice, but little is known about its underlying molecular mechanism. Objective Studies on the major genes afecting the black skin color of ducks. Methods For this purpose, Silver ammonia staining and RNA-seq analysis were carried out to identify the diferences in tissue morphology and gene expressions between black and yellow skin ducks. Results The silver ammonia dyes slice results showed that in the development of black duck, the content of melanin in black skin gradually increased and then decreased, and the content of melanin in yellow and black skin was signifcantly diferent. Through transcriptome, a total of 102 and 84 diferentially expressed genes (DEGs) were identifed in beak skin and web skin, respectively. These DEGs were enriched in melanin biosynthesis and play a critical role in melanogenesis pathway. Co-expression analysis showed that EDNRB2 was the only gene associated with black skin color in DEGs, which was also consistent with qRT-PCR. Conclusions The melanin synthesis pathway dominated by EDNRB2 up-regulated the amount of melanin synthesis, leading to the formation of black skin in ducks.
