Background and Objectives : When p53 cancer suppressor gene, occurs gene deletion or point mutation, malignancy develops by loss of p53 function with abnormal p53 protein. The Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) is the causative agent of certain type of lymphoma and undifferentiated nasopharyngeal carcinoma. However, the role of EBV as a causative factor in other head &eck tumors is not fully elucidated except nasopharyngeal carcinoma. This study, the author examined that p53 expression and detection rate of EBV correlate to development of laryngeal and hypopharyngeal squamous cell carcinoma(SCC) and play the possible role of prognostic indicators. Materials and Methods : Formalin-fixed, paraffin-embedded tissue specimen from 32 cases of larynx and hypopharyngeal squamous cell carcinomas were studied by immunohistochemical staining for p53 and EBV. The results of analysis were compared with clinicopathological parameters. Results : p53 expression was 56.3% (18 cases) and the detection rate of EBV was 43.6% (14 cases) of 32 cases in laryngeal and hypopharyngeal squamous cell carcinomas. p53 expression was correlate with histologic grade (p<05) only. Detection of EBV was not correlate with clinicopathological parmeters. Conclusion : These results suggest p53 expression and the detection of EBV may be related with development of laryngeal and hypopharyngeal squamous cell carcinoma. And, the expression of p53 protein can be used as a prognosticator in laryngeal and hypopharyngeal squamous cell carcinoma under certain limitation.
Guidelines for Mobile Laboratories for Molecular Diagnostic Testing of COVID-19

With the rapid spread of the coronavirus disease (COVID-19), the need for rapid testing and diagnosis and consequently, the demand for mobile laboratories have increased. Despite this need, there are no clear guidelines for the operation, maintenance, or quality control of mobile laboratories. We provide guidelines for the operation, management, and quality control of mobile laboratories, and specifically for the implementation and execution of COVID-19 molecular diagnostic testing. These practical guidelines are primarily based on expert opinions and a laboratory accreditation inspection checklist. The scope of these guidelines includes the facility, preoperative evaluation, PCR testing, internal and external quality control, sample handling, reporting, laboratory personnel, biosafety level, and laboratory safety management. These guidelines are useful for the maintenance and operation of mobile laboratories not only in normal circumstances but also during public health crises and emergencies.
Perinatal Stroke Associated with Placental Chorioangioma: A Rare Case and Review of Literature

Placental chorioangioma is the most common non-trophoblastic and hamartoma-like tumor and has generally good prognosis if the size is small. The incidence of a placental chorioangioma is an estimated 1% of all deliveries. The size of a chorioangioma is considered significant if it is larger than 4 cm, since fetal compromise can occur due to circulatory overload. Very rarely, a placental chorioangioma can directly exert fetal circulation to cause fetal cerebral ischemic stroke, especially in giant placental chorioangiomas which are defined as more than 4-5 cm in diameter. Here, we report a case of a huge chorioangioma, sized 7×5 cm with thrombo-occlusion in the placenta associated with neonatal stroke. Perinatal stroke and giant placental chorioangioma are each very rare. Moreover, the combination is extremely rare as is expected. Our case implicates that placental examination should be considered as an important diagnostic workup in cases of perinatal stroke with unknown etiology.
當歸飮子 水抽出物이 抗 ALLERGY 反應과 MOUSE의 免疫細胞機能에 미치는 影響

This study were done to know the effects of Dangkiyeumja(當歸飮子) on the in vivo and in vitro immune responses of mice. The recipes of Dangkiyeumja used in this study enhanced such cellular functions of immunocytes as phagocytic capacity of macrophages, rosette forming abilities of splenocytes and metabolic activities of lymphocytes. However, the same recipes decreased the formation of such reactive oxygen intermediates(ROI) as superoxide and hydrogenperoxide from the macrophages. The effects of the same recipes on the in viro immune responses was suppressive no the cellular immune response(CIR) measured by delayed-type hypersensitivity against dinitrofluorobenzene and midily enhancing for the humoral immune response measured by antibody production against sheep red blood cells. The results of this study could be summarized as follow: 1. Administration of Dangkiyeumja enhanced the phagocytic activity of the murine macrophage. 2. Administration of Dangkiyeumja decreased the formation of ROI in the murine macrophage. 3. Administration of Dangkiyeumja increased the number of the splenic rosette forming cells in the mouse. 4. Administration of Dangkiyeumja did not affect the antibody production against sheep red blood cells. 5. Administration of Dangkiyeumja depressed the delayed-type hypersenitivity against dinitrofluorobenzene in the mouse. The result of this study suggest that Dangkiyeumja could ameliorate the hypersensitivity reactions by reducing the formation of ROI and decreasing the CIR without affecting the other functions of immunocytes.
