Effects of Air Pollution on Public and Private Health Expenditures in Iran: A Time Series Study (1972-2014)

        Raeissi, Pouran,Harati-Khalilabad, Touraj,Rezapour, Aziz,Hashemi, Seyed Yaser,Mousavi, Abdoreza,Khodabakhshzadeh, Saeed The Korean Society for Preventive Medicine 2018 예방의학회지 Vol.51 No.3

Objectives: Environmental pollution is a negative consequence of the development process, and many countries are grappling with this phenomenon. As a developing country, Iran is not exempt from this rule, and Iran pays huge expenditures for the consequences of pollution. The aim of this study was to analyze the long- and short-run impact of air pollution, along with other health indicators, on private and public health expenditures. Methods: This study was an applied and developmental study. Autoregressive distributed lag estimating models were used for the period of 1972 to 2014. In order to determine the co-integration between health expenditures and the infant mortality rate, fertility rate, per capita income, and pollution, we used the Wald test in Microfit version 4.1. We then used Eviews version 8 to evaluate the stationarity of the variables and to estimate the long- and short-run relationships. Results: Long-run air pollution had a positive and significant effect on health expenditures, so that a 1.00% increase in the index of carbon dioxide led to an increase of 3.32% and 1.16% in public and private health expenditures, respectively. Air pollution also had a greater impact on health expenditures in the long term than in the short term. Conclusions: The findings of this study indicate that among the factors affecting health expenditures, environmental quality and contaminants played the most important role. Therefore, in order to reduce the financial burden of health expenditures in Iran, it is essential to reduce air pollution by enacting and implementing laws that protect the environment.

Grafting aryldiazonium cations to copper: Insights into wettability behavior of a highly hydrophobic coating with enhanced corrosion performance

Fereshteh Adel-Mehraban,Keyvan Raeissi,Fathallah Karimzadeh 한국공업화학회 2023 Journal of Industrial and Engineering Chemistry Vol.123 No.-

This paper describes electrografting of various aryldiazonium salts on copper substrate. The wettability ofthe functionalized surface was measured to choose an aryldiazonium salt with the lowest surface freeenergy suitable for developing a hydrophobic surface. In this regard, a nickel film with a micro-nanostructure was fabricated using an electrodeposition process followed by the modification with 4-dodecylbenzendiazonium salt. The surface morphology of the nickel coating revealed by a scanning electronmicroscope showed pine cone-like microstructure with nano-cone arrays randomly dispersed oneach micro-protrusion. The wettability of the micro-nano nickel film was increased from 7 for aspreparednickel coating to 140 after modification with 4-dodecylbenzendiazonium salt and it wasunchanged by storing 7 days in the air. The corrosion performance of this highly hydrophobic surfacewas evaluated in 3.5 wt.% NaCl solution using potentiodynamic polarization and electrochemical impedancespectroscopy. The results showed a significant decrease in the corrosion current density (icorr), doublelayer capacitance (Cdl), and a simultaneous increase of the charge transfer resistance (Rct), indicatingan improvement in anti-corrosion performance.

Characterization and in vitro evaluation of nanostructure Barium titanate coating on Ti6Al4V

        Shahram Rahmati,Mohammad Basir Basiriani,Mohammad Rafienia,Jaber Yaghini,Keyvan Raeissi,Saeid Hosseini,Sattar Kabiri 한양대학교 세라믹연구소 2016 Journal of Ceramic Processing Research Vol.17 No.5

Osseointegration has been the concern of implantology for many years. Researchers have used various ceramic coatings forthis purpose however piezoelectric ceramics (e.g. Barium titanate) are a novel field of interest. In this regard, Barium titanate(BaTiO3, BTO) coating were fabricated by electrophoretic deposition (EPD) on Ti6Al4V medical alloy, using sol-gelsynthesized nanometer BTO powder. Structure and morphologies were studied using X-ray diffraction (XRD) and scanningelectron microscopy (SEM) respectively. Results showed homogenous coating with cubic structure and crystallite size of about41 nm. Bioactivity response of coated samples while immersion in simulated body fluid (SBF) were evaluated by SEM andinductively coupled plasma (ICP) analysis. Cell compatibility was also studied via MTT assay and SEM imaging. SEM imagesindicated Apatite formation on the coating after 7 days of SBF immersion, and ICP analysis approved ions concentrationdecrement in SBF. Cells showed flattened morphology in intimate contact with coating after 12 h of culture. Altogether, coatedsamples demonstrated appropriate bioactivity and biocompatibility.
