This study was performed to examine the shelf life and qualities of wet noodle with Morus alba L. root and Curcuma aromatica extracts (MCE) during storage at 4oC. Lightness and redness of wet noodle were decreased with increasing amounts of MCE added in noodle while yellowness was increased. The viable cell and molds count of wet noodle with MCE was reduced about 1~2 ? cycle as compared with control during storage time. Also the TBARS (thiobarbituric acid reactive substance) value of wet noodle with MCE was lower than that of control. Hence the wet noodle with MCE has shown remarkable antioxidation effect. In sensory evaluation, the wet noodle containing the ratio of 2.5:0.02 of M. alba : C. aromatica was preferred than the control. From these results, the addition of 2.5% of M. alba and 0.02% of C. aromatica extracts in wet noodle had a good effect on improvement of preservation and development of quality.

신율미와 신자미 페이스트, 맥아, 효소제, 홉을 사용하여 고구마-맥아 당화액을 제조하고, 하면 발효효모 및 상면 발효효모를 접종, 발효하여 라거 및 에일 고구마 맥주를 제조하였다. 고구마 당화시 α-amylase 계 효소제를 첨가했을 때 여과성 향상과 당도 증가 효과가 가장 좋았다. α-Amylase 계 효소제를 0.1% 첨가하여 three step infusion 법으로 고구마-맥아당화액을 제조했을 때 맥주 양조를 위한 최적 당도인 13.5°Brix를 갖는 당화액이 얻어졌다. 라거 및 에일 신자미 맥주에서 고구마 첨가량이 증가함에 따라 폴리페놀 및 안토시아닌 함량이 증가하였고, DPPH 및 ABTS 라디칼 소거효과도 크게 증가하였다. 신율미 맥주에서는 감소하는 경향을 나타내었다. 고구마 맥주의 항산화 활성과 폴리페놀 함량 사이에는 강한 상관관계가 있었다. 라거 및 에일 신자미 맥주 모두에서 고구마 41.6%를 첨가했을 때 관능평가가 양호하였고, 미려한 적색의 색조를 띄었다. Sweet potato-malt worts were prepared by using sweet potato paste of Shinyulmi and Shinjami as the main adjunct, enzymes, malt, hop, and water. We brewed low-malt beers of the lager- or ale-type by using these worts and inoculating bottom and top fermenting yeast, respectively. Moreover, the componential and functional characteristics of the resulting beers were evaluated. During saccharification of sweet potato, the addition of an enzyme agent containing α-amylase caused an improvement in filterability and an increase of total sugar. The sugar content of sweet potato-malt wort which was prepared by the addition of 0.1% enzyme agent containing α-amylase and a three-step infusion procedure was 13.5 °Brix adequate for beer brewing. The polyphenol and anthocyanin contents of Shinjami beer were increased with increasing content of the paste, and also increased DPPH and ABTS radical scavenging activities. But in Shinyulmi beer it were decreased. A strong correlation was obserbed between antioxidave activities and polyphenol and anthocyanin contents of sweet potato beers. In all lager- and ale-type low-malt beers using 41.6% of Shinjami pastes, sensory attributes very similar to those of 100% malt beer were obtained and they were very good as they had unique red color.
가상 전시시스템에서 상품의 관심도 평가를 위한 영상 분석 기법

본 연구에서는 가상전시 시스템에서 제품의 시각적 디자인에 대한 고객의 관심도를 자동으로 평가하기 위한 영상분석 기법을 제시한다. 전시공간의 동영상으로부터 모션인식, 목표물 감지 및 추적기법을 통하여 기본 특징을 추출하고 이로부터 대상자의 행동패턴을 인식한다. 정의된 각 행동패턴에 따라 상품의 관심도와의 관계를 반영하는 가중치 파라미터를 정의하였으며 이에 대한 학습알고리즘을 제안하였다. 실험으로서 4종류, 종 24개 제품에 대하여 제안된 방법을 적용한 결과를, 직접조사를 통한 실제 관심도 자료와 비교하여 분석함으로써 제안된 기법의 유용성을 평가하였다.
Evaluation of Mosquito Repellents Prepared with Natural Plants

In this study, we prepared 5 different kinds of the mosquito repellents using methanol extracts of natural plants and evaluated their effective dose and duration time as a mosquito repellent against to Aedes albopictus in nude mice model. And also, the volatile flavor components of natural plants were analyzed. The effective dose was the highest in Nepeta cataria. Among mosquito repellents prepared with natural plant extracts, repellents prepared with Nepeta cataria, Actinidia polygama, and Artemisia Linne extracts were the most effective for duration time. As a result of analyzing the volatile flavor components of each natural plant, a total of 28 components in Mentha suaveolens and 19 components in Actinidia polygama were detected. A total of 27 components in Artemisia Linne, a total of 26 components in Nepeta cataria, and a total of 19 components in Taraxacum platycarpum were detected. Especially, nepetalactone was identified with one of volatile flavor components of Nepeta cataria. Overall, the results indicate that 5 kinds of natural plants have efficacy as a mosquito repellent and natural plants can be useful resources for developing natural mosquito repellents.

Acupuncture has been shown to have therapeutic effects on many mental disorders such as depression, anxiety, and substance abuse in human and animal studies. Maternal separation (MS) is a risk factor in the development of mood-related disorders such as depression. This study investigated the effects of acupuncture during MS by evaluating locomotion as behavioral markers of depression and by observing changes in c-Fos expression in the limbic system (hippocampus, amygdala and cingulate cortex) to elucidate the mechanism of the therapeutic effect. The employed acupoint, Shinmun (HT7), has been clinically used to treat mental disorders. MS for 7 days beginning on postnatal day 14 induced a significant decease in locomotion, while acupuncture treatment at acupoint HT7 resulted in a significant increase in locomotion. c-Fos immunoreactive cells in area dentate gyms (DG) of the hippocampus were increased in the MS group, but significantly decreased in the acupuncture group. These findings suggest that acupuncture has an effect on the depression-like disorder caused by MS, possibly by modulating c-Fos expression in DC of the hippocampus.

<P>Diabetic cardiomyopathy (DCM) is tightly linked to heart disorders and dysfunction or death of the cardiomyocytes including resident cardiac progenitor cells (CPCs) in diabetic patients. In order to restore loss of function of resident or transplanted CPCs, much research has focused on novel therapeutic strategies including the discovery of novel function-modulating factors such as reactive oxygen species (ROS) scavengers. Here, we developed and defined a novel antioxidant, MHY-1684, for enhancing the angiogenic potential of CPCs against ROS-related DCM. Short-term treatment with MHY-1684 restored ROS-induced CPC cell death. Importantly, MHY-1684 decreased hyperglycemia-induced mitochondrial ROS generation and attenuated hyperglycemia-induced mitochondrial fragmentation. We observed that the activation process of both Drp1 (phosphorylation at the site of Ser616) and Fis-1 is drastically attenuated when exposed to high concentrations of D-glucose with MHY-1684. Interestingly, phosphorylation of Drp1 at the site of Ser637, which is an inhibitory signal for mitochondrial fusion, is restored by MHY-1684 treatment, suggesting that this antioxidant may affect the activation and inhibition of mitochondrial dynamics-related signaling and mitochondrial function in response to ROS stress. In conclusion, our finding of the novel compound, MHY-1684, as an ROS scavenger, might provide an effective therapeutic strategy for CPC-based therapy against diabetic cardiomyopathy.</P>

Objective: Acupuncture has been used for treatment of numerous disorders, especially for pain control in Oriental Medicine. However, the mechanism of pain control by acupuncture was not clear until now. This study was performed to prove analgesic mechanism of acupuncture treatment at acupoint ST36 by observing the changes of abdominal pain and c-Fos expression in the thalamus. Methods: Abdominal pain was induced by acetic acid, and the changes of writhing reflex after acupuncture treatment on ST36 and non-acupoints were measured. c-Fos immunohistochemistry was also performed to study the changes of the neuronal activity in the thalamus. Results: The writhing reflex decrease significantly after acupuncturing at ST(36) compared with control group(p<0.05). The changes of the writhing reflex by non-acupoint acupuncture treatment also showed significant decrease compared with control group(p<0.05). c-Fos expression in the thalamus, especially periventricular part was significantly decreased after acupuncturing at ST(36) compared with control groups(p<0.05). Conclusion: This study shows that the acupuncture has the analgesic effect in the abdominal pain induced by acetic acid and the thalamus might be a important area for this mechanism.
