In coming 21st century, which is forecasted that it will be a knowledge-information oriented society, abilities of information acquirements are required. For this, the Ministry of Education has been encouraging the business of information oriented school education and promoting application of ICT more than 10% in all classes of the 7th curriculum. Moreover, after extending applied classes into 20% by 2005, the Ministry of Education will promote editing textbooks by subjects reflecting the content of ICT application. But, actually, classes applied ICT aren't fulfilled in education fields. The main reason for this is that teachers don't understand fully ICT application model. On the basis of the preceding studies, this study designed subject-settlement class model to develop students' abilities of information acquirements. The subject-settlement class model is made up of 5 steps--confirmation of studying subjects, searching information and collecting, using information, arrangement of results, communication of information, and evaluation. By experiencing search of information, arrangement of information and creation of new information, the application of this model helps the students develop abilities of information acquirements. Nowadays, development of information communication and of computer makes the world change from information oriented society into knowledge oriented society. Future society will focus on the ability of production to create knowledge information. This study is the result presented as a part of the ability of creating information. Furthermore, the development of various learning and teaching models, which are required in information oriented age, are expected.
KAERI 부지 주변의 환경선량 측정을 위한 온라인 감마선량 감시시스템

환경감마선량 변동을 감시하기 위해 한국원자력연구소 부지 주변에 온라인 감마선량 감시망을 구성하였다. 모니터링 포스트에 설치된 전리함 검출기에 의해 측정된 자료는 무선전송방식으로 중앙통제소에 전송되어 실시간으로 감시된다. 무선전송 방식은 자료의 전송, 처리 및 자자에 신뢰도가 높고 경제적이었다. 감시시스템은 급격한 선량증가시 조기경보체제와 연결할 수 있게 하였다. On-line gamma monitoring system around KSERI-site was set up to monitor the radiation fluctuations in environment. Data on gamma exposure rates measured by the ionication chamber in the monitoring posts are transmitted to a computer of central control station with radio telemetry transmission and reliable on handing and storing of data. This monitroing system can triger an early warning system in the event of abnormal radiation levels.

<P>The inhibitory effects of recombinant human erythropoietin (rhEPO) were examined against (1) the progression of renal fibrosis in mice with complete unilateral ureteral obstruction and (2) the TGF-beta1-induced epithelial-to-mesenchymal transition (EMT) in MDCK cells. Unilateral ureteral obstruction was induced in BALB/c mice and rhEPO (100 or 1000 U/kg, intraperitoneally, every other day) or vehicle was administered from day 3 to day 14. Immunoblotting and immunohistochemistry revealed increased expressions of TGF-beta1, alpha-smooth muscle actin (alpha-SMA), and fibronectin and decreased expression of E-cadherin in the obstructed kidneys. In contrast, rhEPO treatment significantly attenuated the upregulation of TGF-beta1 and alpha-SMA and the downregulation of E-cadherin. MDCK cells were treated with TGF-beta1 (5 ng/ml) for 48 h to induce EMT, and the cells were then co-treated with TGF-beta1 and rhEPO for another 48 h. Increased expressions of alpha-SMA and vimentin and decreased expressions of zona occludens-1 and E-cadherin were observed after TGF-beta1 treatment, and these changes were markedly attenuated by rhEPO co-treatment. TGF-beta1 increased phosphorylated Smad-2 expression in MDCK cells, which was decreased by rhEPO co-treatment. In conclusion, rhEPO treatment inhibits the progression of renal fibrosis in obstructed kidney and attenuates the TGF-beta1-induced EMT. It is suggested that the renoprotective effects of rhEPO could be mediated, at least partly, by inhibition of TGF-beta1-induced EMT.</P>

<B>Summary</B><P>The role of platelet-leukocyte interaction in the infarct myocardium still remains unveiled. We aimed to determine the linkage of platelet activation to post-infarct left ventricular remodelling (LVR) process. REMODELING was a prospective, observational, cohort trial including patients (n = 150) with ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI) undergoing primary percutaneous coronary intervention. Patients were given aspirin plus clopidogrel therapy (600 mg loading and 75 mg daily). Platelet reactivity (PRU: P2Y12 Reaction Units) was assessed with VerifyNow P2Y12 assay on admission. Transthoracic echocardiography was performed on admission and at one-month follow-up. The primary endpoint was the incidence of LVR according to PRU-based quartile distribution. LVR was defined as a relative ≥ 20 % increase in LV end-diastolic volume (LVEDV) between measurements. Adverse LVR was observed in 36 patients (24.0 %). According to PRU quartile, LVR rate was 10.8 % in the first, 23.1 % in the second, 27.0 % in the third, and 35.1 % in the fourth (p = 0.015): the optimal cut-off of PRU was ≥ 248 (area under curve: 0.643; 95 % confidence interval: 0.543 to 0.744; p = 0.010). LVR rate also increased proportionally according to the level of high sensitivity-C reactive protein (hs-CRP) (p = 0.012). In multivariate analysis, the combination of PRU (≥ 248) and hs-CRP (≥ 1.4 mg/l) significantly increased the predictive value for LVR occurrence by about 21-fold. In conclusion, enhanced levels of platelet activation and inflammation determined the incidence of adverse LVR after STEMI. Combining the measurements of these risk factors increased risk discrimination of LVR. The role of intensified antiplatelet or anti-inflammatory therapy in post-infarct LVR process deserves further study.</P>

<P>Organic crystals deposited on 2-dimensional (2D) van der Waals substrates have been widely investigated due to their unprecedented crystal structures and electrical properties. van der Waals interaction between organic molecules and the substrate induces epitaxial growth of high quality organic crystals and their anomalous crystal morphologies. Here, we report on unique ambipolar charge transport of a 'lying-down' pentacene crystal grown on a 2D hexagonal boron nitride van der Waals substrate. From in-depth analysis on crystal growth behavior and ultraviolet photoemission spectroscopy measurement, it is revealed that the pentacene crystal at the initial growth stage have a lattice-strained packing structure and unique energy band structure with a deep highest occupied molecular orbital level compared to conventional 'standing-up' crystals. The lattice-strained pentacene few layers enable ambipolar charge transport in field-effect transistors with balanced hole and electron field-effect mobilities. Complementary logic circuits composed of the two identical transistors show clear inverting functionality with a high gain up to 15. The interesting crystal morphology of organic crystals on van der Waals substrates is expected to attract broad attentions on organic/2D interfaces for their electronic applications.</P>

<P><B>Background and Objectives</B></P><P>After the first acute myocardial infarction (AMI), a considerable proportion of patients are newly diagnosed with diabetes mellitus (DM). However, in AMI, controversy remains regarding the disparity in prognosis between previously diagnosed DM (known-DM) and newly diagnosed DM (new-DM).</P><P><B>Methods</B></P><P>The study included 10,455 patients with AMI (non-DM, 6,236; new-DM, 659; known-DM, 3,560) admitted to one of 15 participating centers in Korea between November 2011 and January 2016 (average follow-up, 523 days). We compared the characteristics and clinical course of patients with known-DM and those with new- or non-DM.</P><P><B>Results</B></P><P>Compared to patients with known-DM, those with new-DM or non-DM were younger, more likely to be male, and less likely to have hypertension, dyslipidemia, prior stroke, angina, or myocardial infarction. Compared to patients with new-DM or non-DM (reference), those with known-DM had higher risks of major adverse cardiac events (hazard ratio [HR], 1.20; 95% confidence interval [CI], 1.06–1.35; p=0.004), cardiac death (HR, 1.26; 95% CI, 1.01–1.57; p=0.042), and congestive heart failure (HR, 1.58; 95% CI, 1.20–2.08). Unlike known-DM, new-DM did not increase the risk of cardiac events (including death).</P><P><B>Conclusions</B></P><P>Known-DM was associated with a significantly higher risk of cardiovascular events after AMI, while new-DM had a similar risk of cardiac events as that noted for non-DM. There were different cardiovascular outcomes according to diabetes status in patients with AMI.</P>

<P><B>OBJECTIVE</B></P><P>To determine the effect of adding cilostazol (100 mg b.i.d.) to standard-dose clopidogrel (75 mg/d) (TRIPLE) compared with double-dose clopidogrel (150 mg/d) (DOUBLE) and the influence of the cytochrome P450 (<I>CYP2C19*2/*3</I>, <I>CYP3A5*3)</I>and ATP-binding cassette subfamily B1(<I>ABCB1 C3435T</I>) genetic polymorphisms in type 2 diabetes (T2DM) patients.</P><P><B>RESEARCH DESIGN AND METHODS</B></P><P>T2DM patients were treated with TRIPLE (<I>n</I> = 41) or DOUBLE (<I>n</I> = 39) after percutaneous coronary intervention. Conventional aggregometry and VerifyNow were performed at baseline and at 30 days. The primary end point was absolute change in 20-μM ADP-induced maximal platelet aggregation (ΔMPA<SUB>20</SUB>) between baseline and switching values.</P><P><B>RESULTS</B></P><P>TRIPLE versus DOUBLE showed greater ΔMPA<SUB>20</SUB> (22.9 ± 11.6 vs.12.7 ± 15.5%; difference, 10.2% [95% CI 4.2–16.3]; <I>P</I> < 0.001). Carriage of one (β coefficient, −5.4%; <I>P</I> = 0.162) and two <I>CYP2C19</I> loss-of-function allele(s) (−8.3%; <I>P</I> = 0.007) were associated with lower ΔMPA<SUB>20</SUB> in DOUBLE–treated patients, but not in TRIPLE-treated patients.</P><P><B>CONCLUSIONS</B></P><P>Among T2DM patients, adding cilostazol achieves greater platelet inhibition compared with clopidogrel (150 mg/d), which is not influenced by genetic polymorphisms.</P>

<P>Resolution of inflammation is an active process that leads to tissue homeostasis and involves multiple cellular and molecular mechanisms. Myeloid-derived suppressor cells (MDSCs) have recently emerged as important cellular components in the resolution of inflammation because of their activities to suppress T cell activation. In this article, we show that HLA-DR<SUP>−</SUP>CD11b<SUP>+</SUP>CD33<SUP>+</SUP>CD14<SUP>+</SUP> human MDSCs and CD11b<SUP>+</SUP>Ly6G<SUP>−</SUP>Ly6C<SUP>+</SUP> mouse MDSCs markedly increased in patients and mice during and before the resolution phase of autoimmune uveoretinitis. CD11b<SUP>+</SUP>Ly6C<SUP>+</SUP> monocytes isolated from autoimmune uveoretinitis mice were able to suppress T cell proliferation in culture, and adoptive transfer of the cells accelerated the remission of autoimmune uveoretinitis in mice. Alternatively, depletion of CD11b<SUP>+</SUP>Ly6C<SUP>+</SUP> monocytes at the resolution phase, but not CD11b<SUP>+</SUP>Ly6G<SUP>+</SUP> granulocytes, exacerbated the disease. These findings collectively indicate that monocytic MDSCs serve as regulatory cells mediating the resolution of autoimmune uveoretinitis.</P>

Primary hypothyroidism and type 2 diabetes are both typically associated with the increased level of triglycerides. To date, there have been only a few case reports of type 2 diabetes patients with both type V hyperlipoproteinemia and eruptive xanthomas, but there have been no reports of hypothyroidism patients associated with eruptive xanthomas. We report here on a case of a 48-yr old female patient who was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes and primary hypothyroidism associated with both type V hyperlipoproteinemia and eruptive xanthomas. We found rouleaux formation of RBCs in peripheral blood smear, elevated TSH, and low free T4 level, and dyslipidemia (total cholesterol 18.1 mM/L, triglyceride 61.64 mM/L, HDL 3.0 mM/L, and LDL 2.54 mM/L). She has taken fenofibrate, levothyroxine, and oral hypoglycemic agent for 4 months. After treatment, both TSH level and lipid concentration returned to normal range, and her yellowish skin nodules have also disappeared.
