Measurement of time-dependent CP asymmetries in B0→KS0ηγ decays

<P>We report a measurement of time-dependent CP violation parameters in B-0 -> K-S(0)eta gamma decays. The study is based on a data sample, containing 772 x 10(6)B(B)over-bar pairs, that was collected at the Upsilon(4S) resonance with the Belle detector at the KEKB asymmetric-energy e(+)e(-) collider. We obtain the CP violation parameters of S = -1.32 +/- 0.77(stat) +/- 0.36(syst) and A = -0.48 +/- 0.41(stat) f 0.07(syst) for the invariant mass of the K-S(0)eta system up to 2.1 GeV/c(2).</P>
Search for light tetraquark states in ϒ(1S) and ϒ(2S) decays

<P>We search for the J(PC) = 0(--) and 1(+-) light tetraquark states with masses up to 2.46 GeV/c(2) in gamma(1S) and gamma(2S) decays with data samples of (102 +/- 2) million and (158 +/- 4) million events, respectively, collected with the Belle detector. No significant signals are observed in any of the studied production modes, and 90% credibility level (C. L.) upper limits on their branching fractions in Upsilon(1S) and Upsilon(2S) decays are obtained. The inclusive branching fractions of the Upsilon(1S) and Upsilon(2S) decays into final states with f(1)(1285) are measured to be B(Upsilon(1S) -> f(1)(1285) + anything) = (46 +/- 28(stat) +/- 13(syst)) x 10(-4) and B(Upsilon(2S) -> f(1)(1285) + anything) = (22 +/- 15(stat) +/- 6.3(syst)) x 10(-4). The measured chi(b2) -> J/Psi + anything branching fraction is measured to be (1.50 +/- 0.34(stat) +/- 0.22(syst)) x 10(-3), and 90% C. L. upper limits for the chi(b0;b1) -> J/Psi + anything branching fractions are found to be 2.3 x 10(-3) and 1.1 x 10(-3), respectively. For B(chi(b1) -> omega + anything), the branching fraction is measured to be (4.9 +/- 1.3(stat) +/- 0.6(syst) x 10(-2). All results reported here are the first measurements for these modes.</P>
Metal-organic frameworks: Challenges and opportunities for ion-exchange/sorption applications

<P>Exposure to common ionic pollutants, such as heavy metal ions and toxic anions, is a major concern throughout the world due to their potential impacts on human health and the environment. Recently, metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) with ion-exchange properties have attracted great interest with respect to the capture of diverse hazardous cationic and anionic species. In fact, according to the investigations on these ion exchangers, their sorption capacities are recognized to be considerably superior to conventional materials. This review focused on metal-organic materials as sorbents for ions by surveying MOFs with respect to their exchange/sorption capacities in association with their synthesis and structural characteristics. We also described the recent development in MOF composites and their practical applications toward wastewater treatment. The sorption characteristics were also evaluated among the reported MOFs and then between MOFs and other sorbents. Finally, we described the future prospects for the research and development in materials for ion-exchange based on MOF technology. (C) 2017 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.</P>

<P>We present a measurement of the branching fraction and the longitudinal polarization fraction of B-0 -> rho(+)rho(-) decays, as well as the time-dependent CP violating parameters in decays into longitudinally polarized rho(+)rho(-) pairs with Belle's final data set of 772 x 10(6) B (B) over bar pairs, at the Upsilon(4S) resonance, collected at the asymmetric-energy e(+)e(-) collider KEKB. We obtain B(B-0 -> rho(+)rho(-)) = (28.3 +/- 1.5(stat) +/- 1.5(syst)) x 10(-6), f(L) = 0.988 +/- 0.012(stat) +/- 0.023(syst), A(CP) = 0.00 +/- 0.10(stat) +/- 0.06(syst), S-CP = -0.13 +/- 0.15(stat) +/- 0.05(syst). We perform an isospin analysis to constrain the Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa angle phi(2) and obtain two solutions with phi(2) = (93.7 +/- 10.6)degrees, being most compatible with other Standard-Model based fits to the data.</P>
Prolonged Insulin Independence After Islet Allotransplants in Recipients with Type 1 Diabetes

<P>We sought to determine the long-term outcomes in type 1 diabetic recipients of intraportal alloislet transplants on a modified immunosuppressive protocol. Six recipients with hypoglycemia unawareness received one to two islet infusions. Induction therapy was with antithymocyte globulin (ATG) plus etanercept for tumor necrosis factor-alpha blockade. Recipients received cyclosporine and everolimus for maintenance immunosuppression for the first year posttransplant, with mycophenolic acid or mycophenolate mofetil subsequently substituted for everolimus. Recipients have been followed for 1173 +/- 270 days since their last infusion for islet graft function (insulin independence, hemoglobin A(1c) levels and C-peptide production) and for adverse events associated with the study protocol. Of the six recipients, five were insulin-independent at 1 year, and four continue to be insulin-independent at a mean of 3.4 +/- 0.4 years posttransplant. None of the six recipients experienced recurrence of severe hypoglycemia. Measured glomerular filtration rate decreased from 110.5 +/- 21.2 mL/min/1.73 m(2) pretransplant to 82.6 +/-19.1 mL/min/1.73 m(2) at 1 year posttransplant. In conclusion, islet transplants restored insulin independence for a mean of >3 years in four of six recipients treated with ATG and etanercept induction therapy and with cyclosporine and, initially, everolimus for maintenance. Our results suggest this immunosuppressive protocol may allow long-term graft survival.</P>
Search for CP violation in the D+→π+π0 decay at Belle

<P>We search for CP violation in the charged charm meson decay D+ -> pi(+)pi(0), based on a data sample corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 921 fb(-1) collected by the Belle experiment at the KEKB e(+)e(-) asymmetric-energy collider. The measured CP-violating asymmetry is [+2.31 +/- 1.24(stat) +/- 0.23(syst)] %, which is consistent with the standard model prediction and has a significantly improved precision compared to previous results.</P>

<P>We report a measurement of the ratio R(D*) = B((B) over bar (0) -> D*(+)tau(-)(nu) over bar (tau))/B((B) over bar (0) -> D*(+)l(-)(nu) over bar (l))where l denotes an electron or a muon. The results are based on a data sample containing 772 x 10(6) B (B) over bar pairs recorded at the Upsilon(4S) resonance with the Belle detector at the KEKB e(+)e(-) collider. We select a sample of B-0(B) over bar (0) pairs by reconstructing both B mesons in semileptonic decays to D*(-/+)l(+/-). We measure R(D*) = 0.302 +/- 0.030(stat) +/- 0.011(syst), which is within 1.6 sigma of the Standard Model theoretical expectation, where the standard deviation sigma includes systematic uncertainties. We use this measurement to constrain several scenarios of new physics in a model-independent approach.</P>

The feasibility of the nanocrystal metal organic framework [Cd(atc)(H<SUB>2</SUB>O)<SUB>2</SUB>]<SUB>n</SUB> (NMOF1) as a biosensor is explored for the specific recognition of parathion. The luminescence properties of the NMOF1/antiparathion complex were tested for the detection of parathion. Because of the fluorescent properties, the anti-parathion antibody interacted with parathion in order to facilitate its detection at a dynamic concentration range from 1ppb to 1ppm. The assay was validated against some environmental samples by gas chromatography with solid phase extraction (SPE). Accordingly, the NMOF biosensor tested in this work is demonstrated as parathion-specific with high surface loading and high sensitivity.
