Load Dispatching Control of Multiple-Parallel-Converters Rectifier to Maximize Conversion Efficiency
Orihara, Dai,Saitoh, Hiroumi,Higuchi, Yuji,Babasaki, Tadatoshi The Korean Institute of Electrical Engineers 2014 Journal of Electrical Engineering & Technology Vol.9 No.3
In the context of increasing electric energy consumption in a data center, energy efficiency improvement is strongly emphasized. In a data center, electric energy is largely consumed by DC power supply system, which is based on a rectifier composed by multiple parallel converters. Therefore, rectifier efficiency must be improved for minimizing loss of DC power supply system. Rectifier efficiency can be modulated by load allocation to converters because converter efficiency depends on input AC power. In this paper, we propose a new control method to maximize rectifier efficiency. The method can control load allocation to converters by introducing active power converter control scheme and start-and-stop of converters. In order to illustrate optimal load allocations in a rectifier, a maximization problem of rectifier efficiency is formulated as a nonlinear optimization one. The problem is solved by Lagrangian relaxation method and the computation results provide the validity of proposed method.
Comparison of CFD simulations with experimental data for a tanker model advancing in waves
Orihara, Hideo The Society of Naval Architects of Korea 2011 International Journal of Naval Architecture and Oc Vol.3 No.1
In this paper, CFD simulation results for a tanker model are compared with experimental data over a range of wave conditions to verify a capability to predict the sea-keeping performance of practical hull forms. CFD simulations are conducted using WISDAM-X code which is capable of unsteady RANS calculations in arbitrary wave conditions. Comparisons are made of unsteady surface pressures, added resistance and ship motions in regular waves for cases of fully-loaded and ballast conditions of a large tanker model. It is shown that the simulation results agree fairly well with the experimental data, and that WISDAM-X code can predict sea-keeping performance of practical hull forms.

Under the Japanese tax system, individual investors whose ownership stakes are at or above a statutory threshold face over 30 percentage points higher dividend tax rates relative to those below the threshold. The April 2003 dividend tax reform created a sharp tax differential across a threshold of 5% ownership share while the October 2011 tax reform reduced the threshold to 3%. We hypothesize that these tax reforms induced individual shareholders to restrict their ownership stakes to levels below these thresholds, and test this hypothesis using an investor-level panel dataset. We find that half of the affected individual shareholders sold stocks to restrict ownership stake, but one-third of these stock sales were nominal in a sense that these transactions took place between shareholders and their personal asset management companies. Our study suggests that dividend taxes may not affect the substance of corporate ownerships at large if tax avoidance strategies are available.

Electric-field-induced deformation of a chiral liquid-crystal elastomerin smectic A phase
Yuki Aburaya,나양호,Hiroshi Orihara,Kazuyuki Hiraoka 한국유변학회 2012 Korea-Australia rheology journal Vol.24 No.2
Mechanical response to electrical stimulus has been investigated in a chiral smectic A elastomer. During the application of electric field, the two-dimensional strain tensor was precisely measured by tracking fluorescent beads dispersed on the film. It was found that the shear strain is dominantly induced by the electric field and proportional to the applied electric field.

Pressure Eect of Dielectric Property in Solid Solutions (1-x)Pb(Mg1=3Nb2=3)O3 - xPbZrO3
Hidehiro Ohwa,Naohiko Yasuda,Makoto Iwata,Hiroshi Orihara,Yoshihiro Ishibashi 한국물리학회 2003 THE JOURNAL OF THE KOREAN PHYSICAL SOCIETY Vol.42 No.IV
Dielectric properties of the solid solution system (1-x)Pb(Mg1=3Nb2=3)O3-xPbZrO3 have been studied under hydrostatic pressures up to 0.6 GPa. For the concentration of x 0:8, the values of the dielectric maximum and the temperature of the dielectric maximum decrease at the rate of about
