        Fitting of Light Curves for Microquasar V4641 Sgr

        We report the .tting results of theoretical light curves for microquasar V4641 Sgr. In this study, we apply a new accretion disk model that is presented by Fukue to observed R-band light curves of V4641 Sgr. The new model takes into account the geometrical thickness of the disk, so it may be able to describe the two deep minima of the observed light curves. The best-.t parameters show that the system has a relatively high inclination angle, i = 75±, and that the mass accretion rate is around the Eddington rate. We propose the importance of the geometry of the accretion disk to explain the deep minima observed in this object.

      • Breakup Length of Planar Liquid Sheet with Cocurrent Air Flows

        Air blast atomizer has been employed in a combustor of gas turbine engine. To reduce NOx emissions from a gas turbine, breakup and dispersion of a liquid fuel sheet with cocurrent air flows injected from the air blast atomizer have to be controlled. If we can predict the breakup length of the oscillating liquid sheet, we can estimate and control the spray characteristic in the combustor. When the liquid sheet is exposed to high-speed air flows, it oscillates by the Kelvin-Helmholtz instability, and then thin liquid bags are formed by the Rayleigh-Taylor instability. We define the breakup length as the distance from the nozzle exit to the point where the bags rupture to be a fine spray. In our previous research, we investigated the effects of air and liquid velocities, liquid fluid properties, and gas density on the breakup length. We divided the breakup process into two phases. The first phase is the period largely affected by K-H instability, and the second phase is the period from the onset of bag formation to the bag rupture. We proposed the correlations on the time t<sub>1</sub> and t<sub>2</sub> for each phase. In this paper, we perform a number of additional visualization experiments of the atomizing liquid sheets under different conditions in order to investigate the effects of liquid film thickness D<sub>L</sub>, width D<sub>Lip</sub> of the atomizer lip on the breakup length, and propose new correlations on the time t<sub>1</sub>, t<sub>2</sub> which take into account the effects of D<sub>L</sub> and D<sub>Lip</sub>. In addition, we clarified that the wave velocity V<sub>w</sub> is proportional to the air velocity and the square root of the density ratio of gas to liquid. Finally, the estimated breakup length is confirmed to be in good agreement with the measured data.

        Mixed reality for extraction of maxillary mesiodens

        Background Mesiodentes are the most common supernumerary teeth. The cause is not fully understood, although proliferations of genetic factors and the dental lamina have been implicated. Mesiodentes can cause delayed or ectopic eruption of permanent incisors, which can further alter occlusion and appearance. Careful attention should be paid to the position and direction of the mesiodentes because of possible damage to adjacent roots in the permanent dentition period, errant extraction in the deciduous and mixed dentition periods, and damage to the permanent tooth embryo. To avoid these complications, we applied mixed reality (MR) technology using the HoloLens® (Microsoft, California). In this study, we report on three cases of mesiodentes extraction under general anesthesia using MR technology. Results The patients ranged in age from 6 to 11 years, all three were boys, and the direction of eruption was inverted in all cases. The extraction approach was palatal in two cases and labial in one case. The average operative time was 32 min, and bleeding was minimal in all cases. No intraoperative or postoperative complications occurred. An image was shared preoperatively with all the surgeons using an actual situation model. Three surgeons used Microsoft Holo- Lens® during surgery, shared MR, and operated while superimposing the application image in the surgical field. Conclusions The procedure was performed safely; further development of MR surgery support systems in the future is suggested.

        The associations of the national health and productivity management program with corporate profits in Japan

        OBJECTIVES: Using a dataset from a survey on national health and productivity management, we identified health and productivity factors associated with organizational profitability. METHODS: The Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry conducted an annual survey on Health and Productivity Management between 2014 and 2021. We assessed the associations of organizational health and productivity management using survey questions collected in 2017 and 2018, and the rate of change in profits from 2017 and 2018 to 2020. We identified factors associated with organizational profitability using eXtreme Gradient Boosting, and calculated SHapley Additive exPlanation (SHAP) values for each factor. RESULTS: Among 1,593 companies (n= 4,359,834 employees), the mean age for employees at baseline was 40.3 years and the proportion of women was 25.8%. The confusion matrix for evaluating model performance had accuracy of 0.997, precision of 0.993, recall of 0.997; and area under the precision-recall curve of 0.999. The most important factors related to an increase in corporate profits were the percentage of current smokers (SHAP value 0.121), per-employee cost for health services (0.084) and medical services (0.050); the percentage of full-time employees working in sales departments (0.074), distribution or customer service departments (0.054); the percentage of employees who sleep well (0.055); and the percentage of employees who have a habit of regular exercise within a company (0.043). CONCLUSIONS: The lifestyle health risk factors of employees and organizations’ management systems were associated with organizational profitability. Lifestyle medicine professionals may demonstrate a significant return on investment by creating a healthier and more productive workforce.
