The fundamental parameters regarding linear molecular motors have been obtained via single molecule studies for dynamic (e.g.force) and static parameters (e.g. lament exibility). However, single molecule studies are not trivial, whereas motility assays areless demanding. A computer package presented in this contribution with its constitutive equationsfor the simulation of motility assays that allows the user to input several fundamental parameters (force exerted by the motors, exibility of laments, etc.); collectthe predicted statistics and compare the simulated statistics with actual ones, can be then a valuable tool for a less demandinghypothesis testing of molecular motors functions. Simulation of the chemical storage of data via metal-ligand chelation

The 8-hydroxyquinoline forms metalligand chelating complexes with almost all metals, with various bonding energies andgeometries, and at dierent pH’s. As several studies have demonstrated the manipulation of atoms on the surface via scanning probemicroscopies, it seems that (8-hydroxyquinoline)metal ion monodentate complexes, which are also stable and tunable by externalconditions, e.g. pH, would be good candidates for devices that will store data via spatially-addressable, Angstrom-level placement ofatoms. This contribution uses semi-empirical calculations to investigate the possibility of using pairs of quasi-identical metallicatoms, e.g. ZnCu and PdCd, disposed in a simple cubic lattice, and atomic force microscopy tips functionalized with 8-hydroxyquinoline to read with Angstrom-level resolution the information encoded in the probed surface through the placement ofsingle.information’ atoms.

<P>This paper explores, develops, and investigates several bypass-sensitive compilation techniques to reduce the register file power by reducing the access frequency to the register file. We study the effectiveness of our techniques on the Intel XScale processor, which is based on the previously proposed ldquoon-demand register fetch readrdquo architectural feature. Furthermore, we show that our bypass-sensitive compilation technique is effective on various partial bypass configurations.</P>

With related greenhouse e®ect environmental issues linked to the constant problems of the °uctuations in oil prices, the use of solar energy is an important renewable energy source. Brazil is a country which is privileged considering the high rates of solar irradiation present throughout almost the entire national territory. Nevertheless, during certain times of the year, there is a solar energy de¯cit, which leads solar systems to require electrical resistance support at these times. The use of electrical resistance represents 23.5% of electric energy consumption and it presents a low residential energy e±ciency. The purpose of this work is an alternative technical design for reduction of electric energy consumption through the use of a solar energy system together with a generating heat pump for water heaters for households, as well as the ¯nancial feasibility study on the use of this system. One such heat pump has been designed, constructed and tested experimentally. The average performance coe±cient is equal to 2.10, a low value due to the use of a hermetic reciprocating compressor. Despite this low moderate price coe±cient of acquisition and installation of a heat pump, one can allow a return on investment in from 2.1 to 3.3 years, whereas the equipment has a useful life of about 20 years, this period of return on investment is interesting.

This study explores the attitudes and behaviors toward the wearing of tattoos. The areas of interest and discussion include the motivations of tattoo patrons, the advertising and marketing strategies for tattoo parlors, the perception of people with tattoos, the perception of tattoos in the workplace, and managerial implications for tattoo parlors. The article also contains findings of exploratory research conducted by the authors, as well as an in-depth literature review. Both of these work to support the authors’ hypothesis that the complexion of tattoo wearing is changing.

Diosgenin is a phytoestrogen and a constituent of Dioscorea. It has several biological effects, and some of them are anti-inflammatory, antidiabetic, antitumor, and vasodilatory. The present study investigated both the vasorelaxing and antioxidant mechanisms of diosgenin in isolated rat aortic rings. Female rats weighing 200–220 g were subjected to sham or OVX operations at 8 weeks of age. Ovariectomy was performed for menopause induction after anesthesia. Diosgenin (10−9 M–3 × 10−4 M) produced a concentration-dependent relaxation in aortic rings precontracted with phenylephrine (1 μM), exhibiting Emax value of 55.34% ± 7.7% (in endothelium-intact rings) and Emax value of 30.30% ± 5.7% (in endothelium-denuded rings). In the endothelium-intact rings, the vasorelaxing effect of diosgenin was reduced by NG-nitro-l-arginine methyl ester (L-NAME) (100 μM), atropine (1 μM), indomethacin (10 μM), 1H-[1,2,4]oxadiazolo-[4,3-a]quinoxalin-1-one (ODQ) (10 μM), 4-aminopyridine (1 mM), tetraethylammonium (3 mM), glibenclamide (10 μM), apamin (10 μM), and Tiron (1 μM). Diosgenin (10−5 M) inhibited the contractions induced by cumulative addition of phenylephrine (10−9–10−5 M). The 28-days treatment with diosgenin (50 mg/kg, v.o.) did not imply changes in the myeloperoxidase parameter, but increased significantly, levels of glutathione, superoxide dismutase, and nitric oxide, as well as reduced the concentration of malondialdehyde related to lipid peroxidation. Our results suggest that diosgenin induced relaxation in aortic rings via an endothelium-dependent pathway, which involves the EDRF, the opening of potassium channels and antioxidant action.
A rare case of Ewing sarcoma metastasis to the oral cavity

Ewing sarcoma in the head and neck is rare, and metastasis from other bones to the mandible accounts for 0.7% of cases. This report presents a case of oral metastasis in a 24-year-old male patient diagnosed with Ewing sarcoma of the femur (p53 gene mutation and EWSR1-ERG fusion). The chief complaint was numbness in the mandible and pain for 1 month and a hardened, ulcerated exophytic lesion in the right retromolar region. Imaging exams revealed an unspecified thinning of the cortical bone of the inferior alveolar canal in the right mandibular ramus, associated with erosion of the alveolar bone. Histopathological analysis confirmed metastasis of Ewing sarcoma. The patient presented an aggressive disease progression and died 1 month after the oral diagnosis. It is important to recognize the signs and symptoms compatible with rare clinical outcomes, leading to an early diagnosis that can improve patients' quality of life and survival.
