Background: De qi , the needling sensation, is important in acupuncture treatment. Almost all studies believe that deep needling and manipulation could achieve a significant de qi sensation. However, relatively few studies have examined the effect of psychological factors on de qi, and those that did often reached different conclusions. Objectives: To explore the influence of psychologic factors on de qi in patients with primary dysmenorrhea (PD). Methods: Sixty-eight PD patients with cold and dampness stagnation were randomly allocated to de qi (deep insertion using thick needles, with manipulation, n=17) and non-de qi groups (shallow insertion using thin needles, without manipulation, n=51). Both groups received bilateral needling at Sanyinjiao (SP6) for 30 min. De qi was assessed using the Acupuncture De qi Clinical Assessment Scale (ADCAS). The patients’ acupuncturerelated anxiety and their expectations of the relationship between needle sensation and curative effect were evaluated using a five-point and four-point scale, respectively. Results: Within the de qi group, all patients experienced the de qi sensation, although anxiety levels were unrelated to de qi. Patients’ expectations correlated negatively with de qi timing, and positively with electric sensation. Within the non-de qi group, 59.5% of patients experienced de qi. Between those who experienced it and those who did not, no significant differences were found in anxiety levels, although patients’ expectations differed significantly. Among patients who experienced de qi sensations in the non-de qi group, anxiety and throbbing were positively correlated. Additionally, patients’ expectations correlated positively with de qi intensity, as well as coldness, and numbness. Conclusion: Psychological factors should be considered when studying de qi since PD patients’ expectations could influence the de qi sensation at SP6.

The new 8-hydroxyquinoline (8-HQ) modified magnetic mesoporous carbon (8-HQ-Ni-CMK-3) wasprepared and applied for adsorption of multivariate metal ions from aqueous solution. The preparedadsorbent was characterized by Fourier transform infrared, X-ray diffraction, scanning electronmicroscopy, transmission electron microscope, nitrogen adsorption-desorption isotherm, elementalanalysis, and vibrating sample magnetometer. The static adsorption behaviors toward multivariatemetal ions on graphite, the modified graphite by 8-HQ, magnetic mesoporous carbon, and 8-HQ-Ni-CMK-3 were compared, which showed that 8-HQ-Ni-CMK-3 had excellent adsorption capacity. Theremoval of multivariate metal ions using 8-HQ-Ni-CMK-3 by fixed-bed column was further investigated.
Reinforcement design of the top and bottom slabs of composite box girder with corrugated steel webs

Korea and Japan have done a lot of research on composite girders with corrugated steel webs and built many bridges with corrugated steel webs due to the significant advantages of this type of bridges. Considering the demanding on the calculation method of such types of bridges and lack of relevant reinforcement design method, this paper proposes the spatial grid analysis theory and tensile stress region method. First, the accuracy and applicability of spatial grid model in analyzing composite girders with corrugated steel webs was validated by the comparison with models using shell and solid elements. Then, in a real engineering practice, the reinforcement designs from tensile stress region method based on spatial grid model, design empirical method and specification method are compared. The results show that the tensile stress region reinforcement design method can realize the inplane and out-of-plane reinforcement design in the top and bottom slabs in bridges with corrugated steel webs. The economy and precision of reinforcement design using the tensile stress region method is emphasized. Therefore, the tensile stress region reinforcement design method based on the spatial grid model can provide a new direction for the refined design of composite box girder with corrugated steel webs.

Hydrophobic modified silica/exfoliated graphite nanoplatelets aerogel (M-SiO2/xGnP) were successfullyprepared via surface modification of silica/xGnP alcogel and followed by ambient pressure drying. Afterwards, form-stable PCMs in which capric–palmitic acids eutectic (CA–PA) was confined in theprepared aerogels were obtained by vacuum infiltration. Characterization of the prepared form-stablePCMs revealed that both the hydrophobic modification and the doping of xGnP could effectively improvethe loading of CA–PA in the aerogel. The unmodified silica aerogel could not adsorb CA–PA, while theloading of CA–PA in the surface modified pure silica aerogel supported form-stable PCM and theunmodified silica/xGnP aerogel supported form-stable PCM were 24.2 wt% and 44.4 wt%, respectively. Besides, the hydrophobic modification and the doping of xGnP showed significant synergistic effect. Theloading of CA–PA in the M-SiO2/xGnP supported form-stable PCM (FPCM/xGnP-20-48) could attain78.9 wt% when the M-SiO2/xGnP was obtained by modifying the alcogel with 20 vol% trimethylchlorosilane for 48 h. The FPCM/xGnP-20-48 not only had high latent heat and good thermal reliability, but also exhibited significantly improved thermal conductivity and alleviated supercooling due to theeffective thermal conductive network formed by xGnP and the promoted heterogeneous nucleation ofCA–PA at interfaces with aerogel.

Abstract

Cystocele is a woman disease that bladder herniates into vagina. Women with cystocele may have problem in urinating and higher risk of bladder infection. The treatment of cystocele highly depends on the severity. The cystocele severity is usually evaluated with the manual transperineal ultrasound measurement for the maximal distance between the bladder and the lower tip of symphysis pubis in the Valsalva maneuver. To improve the efficiency of the measurement, we propose a fully automatic scheme that can measure the distance between the two anatomic structures in each ultrasound image. The whole measurement scheme is realized with a two-phase random forest regression to infer the locations of the two structures in the images for the support of distance measurement. The experimental results suggest automatic distance measurements and the final grading by our random forest regression method are comparable to the measurements and grading scores from three medical doctors, and thus corroborate the efficacy of our method.

Highlights

First automatically computerized cystocele grading method on the transperineal ultrasound is developed in this study.

The automatic cystocele grading on the transperineal ultrasound is realized with a two-phase random forest regression model.

Auto-context features are helpful for our regression model to improve the cystocele grading results.

Hu, Liang-An,Fu, Yu,Zhang, Dan-Ni,Zhang, Jie Asian Pacific Journal of Cancer Prevention 2013 Asian Pacific journal of cancer prevention Vol.14 No.4
Background: Interleukin-33 (IL-33) has recently been implicated in tumor immunity. The aim of this study was to explore the clinical role of serum IL-33 in patients with non-small-cell lung cancer (NSCLC). Methods: Sera collected from 250 healthy volunteers (HV), 256 patients with benign lung diseases (BLD) and 262 NSCLC cases were subjected to IL-33 ELISA and relationships between serum IL-33 and clinical characteristics were evaluated. Results: Circulating IL-33 levels were higher in the NSCLC group in comparison with the HV and BLD groups (p<0.001). Using a cut-off level 68 pg/ml (95% specificity in the HV group), IL-33 showed a good diagnostic performance for NSCLC. Multivariate survival analysis indicated that serum IL-33 was an independent prognostic factor in the entire NSCLC group [hazards ratio (HR) = 0.64 for low versus high IL-33 levels, 95% confidence interval (CI) 0.50-0.82; p<0.001] and in 165 selected patients with locally advanced or metastatic disease receiving chemoradiotherapy or chemotherapy (HR 0.70, 95% CI 0.52-0.94; p=0.013). Conclusions: IL-33 is a promising potential diagnostic and prognostic marker in NSCLC, independent of the therapeutic intervention.

Quantification of limonin, naringin, prunin, and naringenin is an important approach for monitoring of debittering processes of citrus products. Naringin and limonin have different polarity and solubility values, causing difficulty in simultaneous extraction and quantification. A procedure combining HPLC and solid-phase extraction was developed to simultaneously quantify these analytes in citrus juice. Analytes exhibited calibration curves of good linearity along with low limit of detection and limit of quantification values. Naringin, prunin, naringenin, and limonin exhibited respective recovery values of 92.2-100.6, 92.0-97.3, 98.1-102.2, and 102.4-103.9%, respectively. Relative standard deviations were lower than 5%. For analysis of naringin, prunin, naringenin, and limonin in citrus juices, the simultaneous method displayed analytical results identical to traditional respective quantification methods. The simultaneous method is highly effective for monitoring naringin, prunin, naringenin, and limonin levels in citrus juice.

Pectinase and naringinase were investigated forimproving the production of pummelo juice by increasingthe juice yield and eliminating juice bitterness. Comparedto a control, the enzymatic treatment significantly (p<0.05)increased the juice yield, soluble pectin and total solublesolid (TSS) contents, and the clarity, while decreasing theconcentrations of the bitter chemicals naringin, limonin, and nomilin. A combined processing treatment of peelingand enzymatic hydrolyses using 5U/g of pectinase and 0.4 U/gof naringinase at 50oC for 60 min resulted in a juice yieldof 42.3%, a TSS content of 11.4oBx, a titrable acidity (TA)of 0.96%, a vitamin C concentration of 38.4 mg/100 mL,and concentrations of naringin, limonin, and nomilin of42.4 μg/mL, 33.5 μg/mL, and 13.3 μg/mL, respectively. The enzymatic method was effective and practical forproduction of high quantity pummelo juice.

Three types of ternary low-platinum nanocatalysts, alloy PdPtIr/C, core–shell PdPt@PtIr/C and Pd@PtIr/C, have been prepared, and their catalytic behaviors toward methanol oxidation reaction (MOR)/oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) are comparatively investigated via cyclic voltammetry and chronoamperometry analysis in an acidic medium. Through a two-step colloidal technique, the synthesized core–shell structured catalyst PtPd@PtIr/C with alloy core and alloy shell show the best catalytic activity toward MOR and the best poisoning tolerance. The alloy PdPtIr/C catalyst prepared via a one-step colloidal technique exhibits the best performance toward ORR among the three catalysts. All the three catalysts are characterized by transmission electron microscopy (TEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD) and other characterization techniques.
