Forecasting from Past-to-Future 3 + 1 Dimensions of Universal Health Coverage in Vietnam: With Application of Grey System and New Monitoring Framework Development

        Nhu-Ty Nguyen 대한산업공학회 2020 Industrial Engineeering & Management Systems Vol.19 No.3

Universal Health Coverage (UHC) is an abstract concept that initially has 3 dimensions i.e., coverage in population, coverage in health service and financial protection, but recently it is updated with the fourth one – sustainable financial resources. Thus, forecasting is crucial over here to help national leaders in the field make good plans and policies for future development and solutions to the previous mentioned issues. This study attempts to think outside the box by utilizing grey system theory in forecasting includes GM (1,1), Grey Verhulst Model, DGM (1,1) and DGM (2,1) to identify forecasting values of variables related to UHC indicators with secondary data ranging from 2009 to 2017 which are available on reliable sources such as General Statistic Office, Ministry of Health and WHO. Moreover, error inspection tools such as MAPE, MAD, MSE, RMSE are used to identify the accuracy of each forecasting models. In general, GM (1,1), Verhulst and DGM (1,1) are found having high ability to make prediction on analysis variables in this research, whilst DGM (2,1) usually generates extremely high errors. Therefore, values of variables used to indirectly calculate UHC indicators are only from either GM (1,1) or DGM (1,1) or Verhulst.

Raising Opportunities in Strategic Alliance by Integrating DEA Model and Grey Theory: Empirical Research in Vietnamese Plastic Industry

        Nhu-Ty Nguyen 대한산업공학회 2020 Industrial Engineeering & Management Systems Vol.19 No.2

In the plastic industry in Vietnam, an important issue becomes increasing productivity performance and sustainable development. This research builds upon a current Data Development Analysis method which helps companies identify the efficiency and seek out potential strategic alliances the performance evaluation. Grey predicting - GM (1,1) is manipulated to foresee future statistics based on the successive past data gathered from the audited financial statements that give further insight into the potential trend. This can improve business performance and create a sustainable development strategy for decision-making units (DMUs). The study was carried out by 13 plastic companies which published their full information on Vietstock’s website. In addition, the super-SBM method also supplements the DEA in the ranking efficiency to indicate the best DMU with the highest level of performance. The targeted company will then cooperate in terms of strategic alliances with the efficient company. The results of this study have shown that the number of effective firms and the ranking order change every year. Some suggestions and discussion on how to improve the performance of the DEA and Grey model theory more precisely in the future are mentioned.

Purchase Behavior of Young Consumers Toward Green Packaged Products in Vietnam

Nhu-Ty NGUYEN,Le Hoang Anh NGUYEN,Thanh Tuyen TRAN 한국유통과학회 2021 The Journal of Asian Finance, Economics and Busine Vol.8 No.1

While green packaging related concerns are mainly studied in developed countries, there is a lack of knowledge to observe purchase behavior toward green packaging in developing countries, especially in Vietnam. Buying green packaged products in FMCG is not required to tradeoff between sustainability and product performance. Hence, this present research aims to understand the gap attitude – behavior existing on FMCG green packaged products among Vietnamese young consumers with psychosocial factors (environmental concern, environmental knowledge of green packaging and green trust) and contextual factors (availability of desired green packaging and product attributes). With a sample size of 396 respondents, data was collected by convenient sampling method and then was analyzed using structural equation modeling. The results reveal that all psychosocial factors are positive related to attitudes while purchase behavior is positively influenced. The findings also report that contextual factors have positive impacts on purchase behavior, which proves the important role of contextual factors in influencing consumer choices. It suggests that green packaging is receptive to Vietnamese young consumers but it should be considered within product-related context to enhance the difference in sustainability among similar FMCG products. Practical implications for marketers and future researches have also been discussed at the end of study.

Optimizing Factors for Accuracy of Forecasting Models in Food Processing Industry: A Context of Cacao Manufacturers in Vietnam

        Nhu-Ty Nguyen 대한산업공학회 2019 Industrial Engineeering & Management Systems Vol.18 No.4

Manufacturing activities, in general, consume nearly 35% of total global production of electricity and are responsiblefor nearly 20% of total global carbon emissions (Graedel et al., 2011). According to Industrial Development Report, the manufacturing sector contributes one in six jobs globally. Since the financial crisis of 2008, there has been increased debate on maintaining sustained growth (Dubey et al., 2015). Food manufacturers have been shifted into theposition whereby they have to deal with recent trends of high and volatile commodity prices, transportation and energy cost. For example, “transportation systems are essential to sustenance of human life and business growth. At thesame time, they are also source of several negative impacts on human life and their environment. Therefore, theyshould be effectively controlled to achieve the socio-economic environmental objectives of sustainability” (Sayyadiand Awasthi, 2018a). Consequently, the urge to gain competitive advantages while staying commited to the qualityand healthy margins is getting stronger. Demand forecasting can be an advantage or a drawback to a company. Especially, when the products have short-life cycle, it is complicated for transportation, storage and quality management;therefore, an accuracy forecasting would schedule for production planning to avoid later obstacles. Based on the assessment of the financial and logistics information of the Puratos Grand-Place Indochina, five different forecastingtechniques including ARIMA, Exponential smoothing, GM(1,1), DGM(1,1) and Verhulst are employed, and theirresults are evaluated. The results indicate that DGM(1,1) has the best performance with the smallest error. The secondbest methods were the GM(1,1) and Verhulst. This result strongly supports the claim that Grey Forecasting Modelscan deal with small, limited and violated sequences of data input. In addition, since the forecast values show smalldifferences from the actual values; if proper investigation can be done on this matter, it would create a huge impact onthe company performance for having an accurate prediction of future events.

The Influence of Celebrity Endorsement on Young Vietnamese Consumers’ Purchasing Intention

Nhu-Ty NGUYEN 한국유통과학회 2021 The Journal of Asian Finance, Economics and Busine Vol.8 No.1

The paper aims to explain the influence of celebrity endorser on consumers’ purchase intention, and explain the influence of brand perception on purchase decision in regard to the case of OPPO F-series and singer Son Tung MTP, in the Vietnamese context. Advertisement is regarded as the fastest and most effective communication method for brands to build an association and attract their target consumers. Among various types of communication tools, the use of celebrity endorsement is considerably growing owing to the explosion of social platforms. This study employs survey data from 258 people living and working in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. Then, those data were used to analyze the general hypotheses by conducting research reviews based on foregoing investigations. The results from data analysis reveal that celebrity’s physical attractiveness, credibility, popularity, expertise, match-up, and multiple endorsements all have positive impacts on purchase intention. The findings from this study would suggest that brands, in general, and smart-phone brands, in particular, should not only focus on these attributes to select a suitable brand endorser, but also need to predict some potential risks when utilizing celebrity endorsement. Finally, various implications and recommendations for further studies and marketers are also discussed.

      • Astrocytic mobilization of glutathione peroxidase-1 contributes to the protective potential against cocaine kindling behaviors in mice via activation of JAK2/STAT3 signaling

        Mai, Huynh Nhu,Nguyen, Lan Thuy Ty,Shin, Eun-Joo,Kim, Dae-Joong,Jeong, Ji Hoon,Chung, Yoon Hee,Lei, Xin Gen,Sharma, Naveen,Jang, Choon-Gon,Nabeshima, Toshitaka,Kim, Hyoung-Chun Elsevier 2019 FREE RADICAL BIOLOGY AND MEDICINE Vol.131 No.-

<P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>Compelling evidence indicates that oxidative stress contributes to cocaine neurotoxicity. The present study was performed to elucidate the role of the glutathione peroxidase-1 (GPx-1) in cocaine-induced kindling (convulsive) behaviors in mice. Cocaine-induced convulsive behaviors significantly increased <U>GPx-1</U>, p-IkB, and p-JAK2/STAT3 expression, and oxidative burdens in the hippocampus of mice. There was no significant difference in cocaine-induced p-IkB expression between non-transgenic (non-TG) and GPx-1 overexpressing transgenic (GPx-1 TG) mice, but significant differences were observed in cocaine-induced p-JAK2/STAT3 expression and oxidative stress between non-TG and GPx-1 TG mice. Cocaine-induced glial fibrillary acidic protein (GFAP)-labeled astrocytic level was significantly higher in the hippocampus of GPx-1 TG mice. Triple-labeling immunocytochemistry indicated that GPx-1-, p-STAT3-, and GFAP-immunoreactivities were co-localized in the same cells. AG490, a JAK2/STAT3 inhibitor, but not pyrrolidone dithiocarbamate, an NFκB inhibitor, significantly counteracted GPx-1-mediated protective potentials (i.e., anticonvulsant-, antioxidant-, antiapoptotic-effects). Genetic overexpression of GPx-1 significantly attenuated proliferation of Iba-1-labeled microglia induced by cocaine in mice. However, AG490 or astrocytic inhibition (by GFAP antisense oligonucleotide and α-aminoadipate) significantly increased Iba-1-labeled microglial activity and M1 phenotype microglial mRNA levels, reflecting that proinflammatory potentials were mediated by AG490 or astrocytic inhibition. This microglial activation was less pronounced in GPx-1 TG than in non-TG mice. Furthermore, either AG490 or astrocytic inhibition significantly counteracted GPx-1-mediated protective potentials. Therefore, our results suggest that astrocytic modulation between GPx-1 and JAK2/STAT3 might be one of the underlying mechanisms for protecting against convulsive neurotoxicity induced by cocaine.</P> <P><B>Highlights</B></P> <P> <UL> <LI> GPx-1 overexpression protects against oxidative burdens induced by cocaine. </LI> <LI> Anti-convulsive potentials of GPx-1 require JAK2/STAT3/GFAP signaling process. </LI> <LI> The activation of GFAP requires GPx-1 overexpression gene. </LI> <LI> AG490 or astrocytic inhibition increased Iba-1-labeld microglial activity. </LI> <LI> AG490 or astrocytic inhibition counteracted GPx-1-mediated protective potentials. </LI> </UL> </P> <P><B>Graphical abstract</B></P> <P>[DISPLAY OMISSION]</P>
